Good Octoberfest beer and food. Go for it.
Sauerbraten had an off taste, likely due to an excessive amount of browning sauce. Kasespatzle was over salted almost to the point of being inedible. Service was mediocre at best.
We stopped for lunch and enjoyed our visit.
Very good menu selection. Both our meals were very good and the german beer was a perfect way to top it off.
Great meal, good beer selection, and friendly wait staff.
If your looking for authentic German food in D.C.then this place is for you, authentic beer selection and great menu items!
Food was spectacular. I have a lot of experience with German cuisine and they struck the perfect balance between authenticity and exploration. Solid German beer list, especially given the small size of place. Very friendly servers. And Senator Collins was even there!
Fantastic surprise. Only 0.4 mile walk from Union Station. Worth every step. Cozy atmosphere, ground level with small bar area separated by wall. Some outdoor seating as well but inside is somewhat more formal than Cafe Mozart (also in DC). Food is unpretentious and just downright mouthwatering, bordering on amazing. Authentic German draft selection and interesting Austrian/German wine list, including dessert wines. Surprising takes on standard cocktails. Small tables with intimate setting yet sufficient space for small groups. Kids could eat here too, if they enjoy German cuisine. Waiters provide very helpful service, suggestions, and guidance with menu choices. When Bavarian Chef is too far away, Cafe Berlin is an excellent substitute. Dessert and appetizer selections were also creative - not just the usual suspects.
We were happy to find a German Restaurant after having eaten fast food for the last two weeks. Our meal was excellent and the service very friendly. We enjoyed every minute!
back at old favorite, but I wish they had the full menu available at brunch.
Great little German restaurant in DC. The food was great and the service was nice. They did not rush us out of there. Recommend asking for the outdoor seating if the weather is nice. Overall a great experience for authentic German food and beer. You won’t be disappointed.
Café Berlin just keeps getting better. Great food, good staff and the rotating offerings of fine German draft beers always worth drinking.
Our food and drink was delicious, large portions. We loved the German look and feel of the biergarten. The indoors was nice as well. Would definitely recommend and return!
We ate out on the patio. There were only two waiting staff for the whole restaurant so service was very very slow! We ordered two pretzel appetizers. The pretzels were pathetic. The top of the pretzel was normal size but the bottoms of the pretzels were so small that there was nothing really there. Overall the food was very good. We ordered the Sauerbraten, Jagerschnitzel and Goulasch. If it wasn’t for the staffing issue I would have given it more stars but the service was so bad I probably won’t be back.
The service was great, food was exceptional. The food looked and tasted "home cooked" - highly recommend this restaurant.
Service was wonderful, and food was delicious
We are never disappointed at the Cafe Berlin. the food and ambiance are wonderful.
Fantastic food and service!
We were a group of nine gathered to enjoy an evening with a friend from out of town. The food and service were great and everyone had a terrific time!
The staff and food were excellent!
We five went offtimes (Sunday early dinner) but were seated in the empty far dining room - I would have preferred scooting two tables together closer to some action since it was super slow. Server was kind of nice but in a hurry (why?) but the food was great as always. We had Vienerschnitzel, Huhnerschnitzel, Trout, Wurst platter and Kasespatzle. And Bretzel to start (the best.) I think in the future I will stick to peak hours and regular staff. I love the Cafe Berlin and want to enjoy the best they have to offer.
This place has GREAT jagerschnitzel! Nice setting in a residential area.
Entrees on the menu not available, coupled with beers on the menu that were not available only made the poor service more noticeable.
What a wonderful meal. The food was excellent and the service stellar!!
Friendly staff, excellent food and cozy atmosphere. Highly recommend.
We usually eat here once a year, and I always look forward to the delicious meal that I know I'm going to get. German food is one of our favorite types, and you're sure to have an authentic meal that will be amazing. Can't wait till we get back here again!
Some of the best German food I have ever eaten. Appetizer combo was perfect. Nice German beers
Second time here on business! Love the food and the patio atmosphere. I recommend this restaurant to friends and colleagues all the time. A very nice escape from the touristy areas.
The food is great, and the service is friendly and professional.
A wonderful experience. Excellent German food and beer, friendly and accommodating service.
Classic Bavarian food - but a little lighter than often found. Fun beer and wine lists. Would recommend the Sauerbratten.
Great authentic German Food. My wife and son had the wiener schnitzel , which compared very well to the real deal we had in Germany years ago. My daughter loved the pork medalions and German mac & cheese. I was very happy with the beef goulash -- hearty, tasty, and satisfying. The portion size was just right -- I finished everything but didn't feel bloated. And of course, the draught beer and bavarian pretzels were great, too. Service was prompt and friendly, without being at all intrusive.
The food was great but the service was lacking. The server barely checked on us and considering how warm it was outside we were only served 1 bottle of water for 4 people. Specials were not mentioned even though the server mentioned to a larger party that came in after us. We asked for dessert menu and server came out with a tray of desserts and was less than enthusiastic describing each of the items. The bill was brought out with absolutely no thanks - typically a server will thank you for coming or even ask how the meal was - we received neither.
we will not be returning in the near future. not worth the drive.
Great food and beautiful Biergarten
We've been to Cafe Berlin many times and have marveled at the food and the service. Our most recent visit produced a mixed experience. At first, no one came to wait on us which was disappointing. Then there appeared to be a "discussion" about who would serve our table of three. One wait staff person brought menus but then another person took over. The young man who took over was pleasant but wasn't 100 % when it came to bringing more water, etc. We'll go back for sure but I was disappointed at this visit.
Great food, great German beer, excellent service, lovely outdoor patio seating on a nice day! We will be returning again and again, one of our favorite places for dinner in the DC area.
Great neighborhood restaurant. Highly recommend for those who like to get out of the tourist area and enjoy good ethnic German food.
We love Café Berlin. We have never had a bad experience. The staff is amazing, food is so tasty.
The perfect day in DC, 84 degrees and so we sat outside. Beer and Schnitzel were good and Red cabbage and Spaetzle were home made and perfect. My husband had the trout which was fresh and tasty. Next time I’ll try the Sauerbraten!
Authentic traditional German food, the best I’ve eaten in a long time.
