Second time here on business! Love the food and the patio atmosphere. I recommend this restaurant to friends and colleagues all the time. A very nice escape from the touristy areas.
A wonderful experience. Excellent German food and beer, friendly and accommodating service.
Classic Bavarian food - but a little lighter than often found. Fun beer and wine lists. Would recommend the Sauerbratten.
Great authentic German Food. My wife and son had the wiener schnitzel , which compared very well to the real deal we had in Germany years ago. My daughter loved the pork medalions and German mac & cheese. I was very happy with the beef goulash -- hearty, tasty, and satisfying. The portion size was just right -- I finished everything but didn't feel bloated. And of course, the draught beer and bavarian pretzels were great, too. Service was prompt and friendly, without being at all intrusive.
The food was great but the service was lacking. The server barely checked on us and considering how warm it was outside we were only served 1 bottle of water for 4 people. Specials were not mentioned even though the server mentioned to a larger party that came in after us. We asked for dessert menu and server came out with a tray of desserts and was less than enthusiastic describing each of the items. The bill was brought out with absolutely no thanks - typically a server will thank you for coming or even ask how the meal was - we received neither.
we will not be returning in the near future. not worth the drive.
Great food and beautiful Biergarten
We've been to Cafe Berlin many times and have marveled at the food and the service. Our most recent visit produced a mixed experience. At first, no one came to wait on us which was disappointing. Then there appeared to be a "discussion" about who would serve our table of three. One wait staff person brought menus but then another person took over. The young man who took over was pleasant but wasn't 100 % when it came to bringing more water, etc. We'll go back for sure but I was disappointed at this visit.
Great food, great German beer, excellent service, lovely outdoor patio seating on a nice day! We will be returning again and again, one of our favorite places for dinner in the DC area.
Great neighborhood restaurant. Highly recommend for those who like to get out of the tourist area and enjoy good ethnic German food.
We love Café Berlin. We have never had a bad experience. The staff is amazing, food is so tasty.
The perfect day in DC, 84 degrees and so we sat outside. Beer and Schnitzel were good and Red cabbage and Spaetzle were home made and perfect. My husband had the trout which was fresh and tasty. Next time I’ll try the Sauerbraten!
Authentic traditional German food, the best I’ve eaten in a long time.
The food was just okay, the sides did not seem to compliment the main dish very well. The service was slow at best and I was very upset when the waitress was not sure where my credit card was at. In this day, identity theft being what it is that is inexcusable. I would not recommend.
We chose this restaurant because it was within walking distance to where we were staying and they took online reservations. The menu looked good so we gave it a try. The food was excellent, very tasty, good portions and good value. Staff was friendly and attentive. Wish we had saved room for dessert. I highly recommend.
Delicious and on the mark-- we brought friends here that we knew would love it, and they did! Thanks again--
So happy we found this neighborhood gem on Open Table and made the Lyft from the National Portrait Gallery. The food was authentic and tasted excellent. Great German beer selection too and the desserts were amazing. If you like German food this is where you need to go.
Always reliable, excellent patio dining, German food updated as well as other favorites.
If you have room do not miss the homemade desserts.
Real German cuisine. Outstanding
We lived in Germany for many years and this is the closest to authentic German food that we have had since being back in the states. Great food, drink selection, service and environment.
Food and service were very good, but the noise from nearby tables was overboard
Amazing. Would definitely come again!
CAFE BERLIN served draft Andechs , my favorite beer. I have been drinking and dining there for over 18 + years. It is an authentic German restaurant. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want to try German food.
Food was wonderful! We had excellent service and many suggestions were given when we asked. Waitress was very well trained. Food was hot! Would definitely go back.
Beer was good. Food was ok. I’ve priced for the offering. And no one spoke German and they asked for the items to be read in English rather then the German written menu.
We had a very good time trying different foods and beers here for Father's Day. Many items were authentic. Our server was attentive and knowledgable.
Our military “framily”, who all served in the military together over 30 years ago in West Germany, gets together ever year to hang out for a few days and eat at a German restaurant. This year the place was Washington, DC and the restaurant was Cafe Berlin! Cafe Berlin did not disappoint - the food was YUMMY, atmosphere was AMAZING and the staff very ATTENTIVE! Looking forward to going back soon!!!
Father's Day brunch. Was able to get a last minute reservation. A little disappointed we couldn't sit outside, but the food was fabulous and we enjoyed our visit. We will be back!
Third time here. Always wonderful! Whenever we’re in DC, our trip isn’t complete unless we come to Cafe Berlin. Food, waitstaff, ambience- it’s all A+!
My husband and I ate in their lovely garden. We had the wiener schnitzel with white asparagus and potatoes. We recently had wonderful white asparagus in France and these were also delicious. The meal was excellent, including gooseberry pie for dessert.
Great place to meet friends from out of town as they just finished a tour of the Capital. They loved the food and we had a wonderful time catching up-not rushed at all.
It is a lovely place with comfortable seating, white table cloths but not fussy. The menu was extensive , reasonable and quite delicious. Our server was very helpful. Desserts were delicious. We all took food home. Very generous servings.
The food was good but have had better. Server seemed to forget a lot. Bartender was a bully.
Café Berlin is a reliable food option on Capitol Hill. The food is wonderfully German if not always "Berlin" style. Doesn't matter because the Sauerbraten and salads are all delicious. I keep going back to the trout because it's so tasty. However, as a two-some, I keep getting stuck in a stuffy, dark cubby hole. A coincidence, I'm sure but not my favorite spot. Outside garden is pleasant but a popular seat in nice weather. Service is uber friendly but a bit spotty - I think because of one person covering so many tables. Will go back again!
Having just returned from Germany, we were hungry for more German food, so picked Cafe Berlin. We hadn't been there for quite some time, so enjoyed the return visit.
Was looking for some good German food, and was not disappointed. $10 for a liter of beer didn't hurt. Highly recommend
Delicious food, friendly, quick service. The trout was excellent as was the sauerbraten
The service (Nathan) was excellent. The food was authentic and very good. Wir hatten Forelle gegessen und die Forelle war erste klasse Wir kommen zurueck.
Great traditional German food! Jay was our server and even spoke some German! Truly a wonderful restaurant.
We've been here MANY times. Every time we go to DC. Authentic German food, expertly prepared and served.
We did not get to taste the normal menu the specials on the prefix brunch where good but a bit untraditional. Will have to check it out again
