The seating is bistro style and offers about 50 seats outdoors and 80 seats indoors.
The ambiance is just as you would find in any Parisian brasserie with friendly and fun service.

We look forward to meeting you!
We had the downstairs room to ourselves for a party of 15, so it was intimate and the service was exceptional. Try the rabbit!
Closest thing to a Parisian street side dining experience . We loved our waiter, Chimay, French onion soup and pepper steak. Ended with creme brûlée and double espresso. It was a perfect choice for a casual anniversary dinner. Rolled out to Hamilton afterwards. Just a perfect time. Thank you.
Never been to Europe, but they say this place is very much like it! My husband and I loved our brunch, everything was wonderful. The onion soup, and clam chowder were wonderful, and the quiche Lorraine as good as any I ever had. We sat outside and we loved the charming little spot. I highly recommend Cafe Bastille!
We love Café Bastille for special occasions, and we had the best experience yet at our most recent visit. The prix fixe is a great deal, and this time our attentive, thoughtful, very generous server suggested that we break away from our usual favorites and try the lapin a la moutarde -- it was out of this world. Add to that a bottle of cremant and a gorgeous evening, and Café Bastille was, again, amazing.
Reunion dinner with good friend
Very quiet restaurant in a location somewhat difficult to find. WE enjoyed eating outside under the canopy especially when the overhead heat was turned on (San Francisco weather!) The fish and the quiche were good but the andouilette had unfortunately no resemblance to the real thing. I'll try something else the next time I visit.
Love the feeling of traveling to France when we only walked 5 blocks to get here! Food was tasty and waiter very friendly.
Great service and wonderful food! I couldn’t understand why it wasn’t busier!
Great place with exceptional service. Our meals were very good especially the cheese plate. Their homemade ketchup is out of this world! Mussels cooked perfectly!
My husband said the trout was delicious. The bread was also good. The service was excellent. The wine suggested was very nice. However, the vegetarian dishes were very few. We decided to stay even after I saw the menu was mainly meat because we had walked a long time to get there. There was no salad with the entree, few green vegetables. The mushroom fettuccine was bland. We were disappointed with our dinner overall when comparing it to reviews we read online. If you are an eater of rabbit, beef, and pork, as well as mussels...you might feel differently than I did.
Most attentive and speedy service! Fabulous dishes!
Had a great brunch with bottomless mimosa, eggs Benedict, omelets and French toast and two desserts!
This place was recommended by a friend while I was in San Francisco and the food was nothing short of divine. The filet mignon was better than the one I had at the Chophouse in Denver — soft and seared a perfect medium rare, and the blue cheese sauce it was served in was incredible. Even the complimentary bread basket was excellent. I don't often waste valuable stomach space on bread, but the stuff they were serving was delicious. Warm and crispy on the outside with a very soft, fluffy interior. Most exquisite!
My date ordered the three-course meal with the Coq Au Vin, French onion soup, and chocolate mousse cake. Everything was delicious, but we both agreed the filet mignon was the superior dish between the two main courses. I'd highly recommend this place if you happen to be in San Fran and are hankering for some fantastic French food. I'll definitely be returning the next time I'm in town.
I always enjoy dining here. It's like being in Paris. You are never rushed and can have a.pleasant conversation, without shouting.
A lovely place! Sit inside or out and enjoy delicious food. We had the endive salad, duo salmon appetizer and the rabbit. All excellent. Service is wonderful.
Cafe Bastille is a little bit of Paris on Belden Alley. Great service, even a take-out container of water for the pup. Salad enough to split for 3, Steak Tartare, Baked Salmon, and Mussels in a creamy broth and Crepes Suzette to top it off. Champagne, beer, tea all delivered by our charming wait staff.
So much fun enjoying stories of our trips & our family. An awesome Sunday afternoon.
Saturday evening was very slow - only a few other tables were in use. The wait staff was wonderfully attentive and the food was delicious. My wife and I will visit again and explore some of the other menu options.
My experience of Café Bastille has , without an ounce of exaggeration, superior in every way. The wait staff are always helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly in just the right way. A small group of my friends meet at Café Bastille for our times together. Whenever we come together there, the level of service, the quality of the food, and the welcoming atmosphere are consistent and, frankly (in comparison to other place), wonderful. I have, myself, been regularly eating at Café Bastille alone or with friends since 2001. Long may it be with us. Vive Café Bastille, vive la France, et vive sa culture gastronomique dans notre monde occidentale and dans notre ville.
We decided that we wanted French cuisine and this place came recommended by friends. We arrived and staff were friendly. Service was good and came with recommendations. Attention of staff was almost ideal and always pleasant.
Food quality was good. Escargot were missing something but the steak was awesome. Ambience was good knowing location, adjacent restaurants and through traffic but we wanted to dine outside. As frequent visitors to Paris this was a great experience, never quite the same but beats the 13hr flight. We would recommend to friends as a good place to dine. All around 4.8/5.0
Authentic French cuisine in a lively establishment. Service was impeccable, staff very friendly, and the atmosphere conducive to conversation (ask for the downstairs dining space which was much quieter when we were there).
My croque madame was so tasty! My husband is Parisian and loved the boudin noir. The owner was kind to seat us immediately and the wait staff was attentive. It's tiny, but so are the restaurants in Paris ;). What really had my husband going was the pop remixes from the many number one songs he remembered growing up. Nice job DJ!
Authentic French Bistro in San Francisco! The service was impeccable and the food was delicious!
Lovely food, GREAT service.
Great outdoor seating area and good variety of food selection at reasonable prices. The tables are too close to each other. You are literally elbow to elbow to the customer next to your table unless you have a big group where tables are set up differently.
As always, the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and considerate. My friend and I had a drink at the bar and shared a cheese plate before going to our table for a lovely dinner. We were welcome to stay as long as we wanted. We definitely shall be back soon.
The food was great but the service was exceptional!
Classic bistro food, cool outdoor seating in a little alley lined with restaurants.
Service was very good. The food was not bad, but disappointing given the price point.
Our group of 13 loved it over all. Les garçons de café were lovely and very attentive. My only criticism is that we had to wait an hour between ordering and being served. That's just too long. I had made the reservation the prior week so they weren't surprised by our showing up! Maybe they are understaffed, I don't know. But again, that was my only criticism about an otherwise truly lovely and delicious experience.
Great service and good food. Ate inside but the outdoor spot looked great for people watching.
What an amazing restaurant. Can’t wait to go back.
Super French café for lunch in San Francisco! The food and staff are excellent!
This is our first time in many years. Was totally disappointed in the quality of the food. Had mussels and they were cold, the sauce seemed watery, the french fries were overcooked and didn't taste like the oil was very fresh. My wife had a pork chop which she described as delicious flavor, but tough as shoe leather.
Fantastic food, and overall great experience. Would highly recommend!
The pasta dishes were great, the beef casserole was very dry and not very flavorful.
Superb ! Excellent service provided by Sabina and her coworker ( sorry don’t remember his name..) great food and I love the ambience
The food was mediocre. The Coq Au Vin was the best dish we ordered. Very overpriced.
Perfect French restaurant
