We had a wonderful dinner last Saturday night. The restaurant is not large, but the ambience was very nice and it was relatively quiet and best of all we were not rushed. We thought the food was exceptionally good and we would definitely go there again.
A must try! A great little spot in downtown Winnetka on Elm.
The good was excellent, service attentive and prices
reasonable. Everything is mouth watering. My friends
enjoyed and we'll be back again!!
Fabulous food and service. We had never been there before and were very surprised we hadn't really heard much about it.
My wife and I have decided to try a NEW restaurant every Friday!
We found this place on Open Table.
The reviews we good so we figured why not and made a reservation.
The place was empty and I can’t figure out why?
The food was great! My wife had the Short Ribs and I had the Veal.
This is a must go!!! We will be going back!
What a find! The food was delicious and the service was great. It is definitely a gem on the North Shore.
Although we did not see this on their website, there was a valentine menu only. It was a prefix, and although there was only 4 entrees, we found a steak to our liking. For $40.00 each it was not bad since it the appetizer was excellent, as well as the main course and desert. I just wish there was a little more variety, and even there regular menu in my opinion is narrow. This is why I recommend it for special occasions only.
Really enjoyed the food and wine at this restaurant. Innovative menu, great wines by the glass and knowlegeable somalier. The service was impeccable; the food amazing. My only suggestion would be to tone down the choice of music (funk/soultrain played at high volume) which didn't work with the otherwise romantic atmosphere. We will definitely be returning to this newfound gem!
We had a great meal at a reasonable price.
My wife and I were new to the cafe, heard they were serving dinner, so we thought we should give it a try. We had a wonderful time. From the front of the house to the Chef in the back it was easily seen that these employees care about this establishment. Service, very attentive and polite. The food was simply fantastic! Atmosphere cozy but still with a fine dining feel. Overall a must stop location if you are in the area. We plan on being seen there many times more.
Alas, even apart from the cold interior - decor, as well as temperature - the experience was grim. Ample portions of very so-so food. The cioppino was the least tasty rendition I've had. The salmon was okay but the accompanying melange unpleasant. Bread was awful. The high point of iur dinner was the apple salad; it was all downhill from there. Oh, yes. Our companion's bourbon rang in at $10, plus - are you ready for this? - a dollar extra for ice. Back to basics, Aroma! Warm the place up. Splurge on white tablecloths. Invest in some good bread. Tune up the cuisine. Stop gouging on the liquor and stop charging for ice. Ask yourself objectively what kind of experience your diners are having, and what kind of experience you want them to have.
Lovely restaurant we will go back
Friendly staff with quality food and the food had uniquel twists so not your run of the mill place.
The best spot on the North Shore for dinner!
my husband and I ate at Cafe Aroma on a Friday night. Scarcely anyone there. Usually that is a warning sign that something is wrong.
Boy were we surprised . We had lovely service and very good food, The apple salad was quite special. I think the chef lightly grilled the apples were lightly grilled. The fish was cooked just right, mine served on a bed of fennel .
The only thing that I missed was an extra vegetable, which many restaurants are serving as an extra side.
I gave ambience a 3 because, for my taste, the lights were too bright and it was too quiet, which won't be the case once the North Shore finds this little gem.
We had a wonderful evening. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The place is small but very cute and the tables were well spaced so we were not too close to anyone else. We will definitely go back.
A new restaurant that has excellent food and a chef willing to accommodate special request or allergies. Service was extremely friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, it was not busy, and we could not see how things would ramp up if they were. The people running the restaurant need some on the job training and experience.
the food, although limited menu, is worth the try.
We were hoping that we would find a restaurant in out neighborhood that was a gem but sadly we cannot say that about Cafe Aroma. The restaurant itself is charming but the food and service were fair and was very costly. We should of known better when there were only three other tables filled. We will not be returning.
This is a lovely place to dine right in the heart of Winnetka. The owners are anxious to please and the food is delicious.
Our server Ramon was outstanding. Flat iron steak with potatoes was first rate. With food this good, this place should be way more crowded at dinner!
While we were there shortly after the restaurant opened for dinner and it was not crowed, the service was not very attentive. The steak was very good as was the bread pudding.
Well prepared food, nicely priced. Just lose the Edith Piaf muzak.
Cafe Aroma provides a nice alternative to nearby bar food restaurants. The menu is not vast but the selections are well-chosen, well-prepared, and delicious. We had an excellent Italian vegetable-sausage soup followed by entrees of scallops (fabulous) and grouper (a stand-in for redfish, and much better outcome!) Everything was fresh and reasonably priced. The wine list was limited, but sufficient, and provided value. Our server Ramon was so good, and so nice, but was overworked. We've been here before and will definitely come back.
