Cafe Argentino Ratings and Reviews
We warmly greeted at the door and assured the table would be ready soon for a Mother's Day dinner for 12 people. The service was great all around and the food was very good. Even my family who is very resistant to trying new restaurants loved the food and wants to go back.
My only complaint is that the food took about an hour to come out and it wasn't all that busy at the time. The restaurant might just have a small kitchen. They totally redeemed themselves for the lateness with the great tasting food and round of beers and wine on the house at the end of the meal.
The restaurant looks very simple but the food was outstanding. I had the Filet Mignon and it was one of the best I've ever had. The Chorizio appetizer was also excellent and the wine, recommended by our waiter, was very good. He was also extremely accommodating for my gluten and dairy allergy and I had a wonderful meal! We are definitely going back!
My daughter and I chose this for a late (10pm) dinner before going to a local bar. The food was awesome, authentic Argentinian fare. A very nice ribeye steak for me, chicken with a light gravy and mushrooms for my daughter, and I also had morcilla (blood sausage). The service was wonderful, attentive, friendly, well paced. The person who took our order answered our questions knowledgably before we ordered, and showed a real passion and pride for the food. There was a family from the neighborhood seated next to us, and the atmosphere was casual and homey. It's a smallish place, with a nice little bar in a very pleasant neighborhood in Williamsburg. As I mentioned, we went initially because of its proximity to another bar, but we would go back again just to enjoy it on its own merits; a true "find".
I am from Buenos Aires, and I can say that this restaurant has very good, authentic, reasonably priced Argentinian food and wine. Their $25 prix fixe dinner is a great value. I've been there before, and definitely going back. They have a milonga once a week.
What makes this place stand out is the food, particularly compared to the price. It is one of the tastiest restaurants I have been to in the area, no doubt, and the steaks will keep me coming back.
In regards to what I thought could be improved: add more wines to the menu! The wine I had was indeed delicious, but it was one of about 4 options total they had by the bottle. Add a slightly more high end option for those picky drinkers to go with your amazing and underrated steaks and you won't regret it.
Service was above average - only wish was a little more attentiveness to when the wine glasses were empty, but only because I couldn't be spared the time from stuffing my face with delicious steak to fill my glass on my own!
staff is fantastic and very friendly, great recommendations! had the chorizo sandwich and the beef sandwich, both were good, although the beef was a little bit tough. i really enjoyed the fries with garlic. very relaxed atmosphere, never rushed. great place to stop by with friends to hang out and chat
My wife and I used to dine at (or order delivery from) Cafe Argentino all the time when we lived in the neighborhood years ago. We were with a group recently that was unable to get a seat at a very popular (but no reservation) spot a few blocks up on Metropolitan. Glad we came here. It had been years but the sweetbreads, entrana, mixed grill, fried cheese and other items were just as we remembered. And the friendly staff even remembered us these years later. Plus, the wine is all served at very affordable prices. Such a great spot.
Everything was very good (empanadas, chorizo and provoleta for starters, we shared skirt steak and ribeye amongst 4 of us). The steaks were good, perfectly prepared but the provoleta and the sauteed spinach were exceptional. great place with a friendly, attentive staff.
The empanadas were great the (ñoquis) in the other hand wasn't that good taste like nothing expect the pesto was ok and the steak my friend said was great I can't tell you that since I'm vegetarian the service was kind of slow we have to be looking for them all the time they took long time to take a other and it wasn't a busy night it was a nice place to try
We were hoping this to be a good place for having steak. Unfortunately, half of our meat platter was inedible. The steak and ribs were both tough and overdone. Empanadas were ok, but not great. The chimmichurri was watery and bland, no spicy sauce like you usually get at an Argentinian restaurant. Service overall was friendly, but spotty. Bottle of white wine came without ice bucket, no refills from the waiter. We had to ask for everything like salt, napkins etc. We will not return.
Cafe Argentino was a great find. The people that work there are the best at their jobs. Very attentive. I dealt with Christian (I believe that's his name)and he really knows how to make u feel like family. The place reminds me of Cheers. I had chicken with a mushroom sauce that was delicious. I skipped the usual meat entree to try something different and was very pleased. My husband is from Argentina so if we say we would go back to Cafe Argentino that means something.
