Cactus Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
The food was very basic and lacked any flavor or sauces. The service however was very nice and prompt. The tables inside seem to be positioned badly. We sat inches away from the dispense bar which was a very chaotic area for the servers. We also had an extremely loud table behind us that was so close I couldn't get in or out of my chair. If the food was better I would come back.
I write a food blog and I didn't find myself wanting to cover Cactus as a gem or disappointment. It's basically Mexican food a step above Taco Bell. The service was good. The atmosphere is plain, not a lot of ambiance, but by no means a turn off. Me and my girlfriends just wanted a cheap eat , a drink special, and a place where we could sit and talk , and it served all 3 purposes. I'd return for the same reasons. I would Not however recommend the spice, mango margarita.
Our son was in the mood for Mexican fare so we chose Cactus. For my 10 year old, the food was fine. However, for more sophisticated palates, the food was just okay. The menu selections looked promising but the execution was uninspired. Reminded me of a college bar back in the 80's.
I must say I was impressed by this bar the moment I walked in it was very crowded which is a good thing. howeverthe table that they had reserved for us was too smalland right near the bar so in the middle of us was the aisle which was about 3ft wide. So not enough space.. In my opinion they shouldn't gave tables there. My food was amazing I had the shrimp burrito with enchilada and cheese sauce. To die for. By date had shrimp fajitas which was good but was missing something. Maybe sauce it was a bit dry.. My drink was mediocre watered down mess. Taste like juice...but regardless it was only 5 bucks the cactus Rita. My food was so good it didn't even matter Lol.
We love Mexican/Southwestern food but didn't like this place at all. $10 margarita pitchers for happy hour but they were horrible and we sent them back. Guacamole was below average and my friend's chicken tacos were stale. The server was apologetic and had management make adjustments to our bill. It would have been nice for management to come to our table but they didn't.
This was a horrible experience. The good was absolutely the worst Mexican I have had. The fajitas came out cold, the beans had no seasoning, the rice was hard with no flavor or seasoning. I literally had one bite of my food, as did my boyfriend and we asked for the check. The manager was a jerk and stated "this is how they make their food". I would never recommend this place for anyone to eat. I wouldn't even feed this food to my dog.
tomato sauce for salsa and way too much of sour cream and way tooooo little avocado in your guacamole. the chips were excelant but ruined on the tomato sauce and what you call guacamole..... $2 tacos were worth it
very loud most folks must eat after getting drunk
I took my two children (aged 10 and 14) to an early dinner after Easter service. The service was excellent. The host was nice and personable. He had a genuine smile. The waitress was on point with coming to our table at the appropriate time. She was very perky and nice as well. There were only a few patrons seated and a few at the bar but the atmosphere was peaceful. The food was ok and the portions were large for the price, but it didn't taste very authentic. Also the menu was small. I was craving Mexican food but it tasted very "American". The beer selection is interesting. I got a special blend of Blue Moon which was delicious. I would come back though for drinks and nachos with my friends.
The food was bad. Over cooked, flavorless...and not very Mexican.
If you want beer you'll be fine, but don't go for a margarita.
The music was metal - Black Sabbath, Def Leopard.
And the drama...
Sitting at our table I could hear the manager swearing and complaining, "I don't care if he's my f'in brother...I'll never schedule him again if he ... somebody go after him".
Our server was very nice and attentive - she could find a better place to work.
Wonderful friendly service but very bland and unoriginal food. No corn tortillas in a mexican restaurant???
We them assumed this was more of a bar then a restaurant but apparently that did not pan out either..
Drinks were not particularly good. The margaritas tasted like they were made with a mix from Costco with cheap tequila added.
Didn't dare stay for dessert.
This was my second time visiting Cactus. I brought my son here just for the chips and salsa. The salsa is probably the best I've ever eaten. My son was not disappointed. My kids are 5 and 14 and both were happy with their food choices. My husband too was pretty happy with his meal. The service was pretty good this time. The shrimp burrito is really amazing. This is not a place that presents food well though. You get what you order on a plate, no presentation what so ever. But, the food is really good. The first time I went here was with some friends, and their drinks were really bad. My friend ordered a skinny girl margarita and it was not what she expected. It was so strong, she couldn't even drink it. Surprising for Philly
