About Cacio e Pepe
Consistently excellent, this East Village gem is known for innovation and excellence in Roman cuisine. While Chef Salvatore Corea creates a seasonal menu, partners Alessandro Peluso and Giusto Priola note that Cacio e Pepe remains faithful to its signature namesake dish: home-made pasta brought to your table and spun in a wheel of pecorino cheese, then dusted with a flourish of pepper. Voted a ‘Critic’s Pick’ by New York Magazine, Cacio e Pepe is celebrated by reviewers as a classic Italian restaurant with a sense of style: A 50-seat garden is set behind the main dining room, there is al-fresco dining out front, and waiters with superior wine knowledge help you select the perfect beverage accompaniment to your meal. The mystery remains whether it is the garden, the cuisine, or the service which lifts Cacio e Pepe above and beyond its peers on the NYC restaurant scene. The answer, however, may best be expressed in French: It has that je ne se qua.

Cacio e Pepe Ratings and Reviews
Cacio e Pepe has a signature dish.....cacio e pepe served inside a wheel of parmigiana and it hooks us every time. We see other tables feasting on what look like tremendous other menu options and we know because we ask everyone sitting nearby. Everyone loves the food here, newcomers and old timers alike. And that's why everyone keep going back again and again and again. 'Nuf said. Happy Thanksgiving 2017 to one and all.
I’m a fan of Cacio e Pepe pasta (not the resto) so if I go to a restaurant that is called that way, my expectations are high, moreover so when the pasta is pricy. The preparation is fancy, but the taste is no better than any other place.
Overall good experience but a bit disappointed on the food.
This was the biggest disappointment in a dinning experience I have EVER had. I called two times to tell them it was my boyfriends birthday and they did not even acknowledge it our entire meal. The pasta wasn't even cheesy and the servings were so small. The place was so expensive and the quality of the food was average at BEST. Oh and also- if you're going to only accept American Express then you should probably mention it before handing me the check after we have already eaten. This place was not worth it, and I would not advise anyone to eat there. Much better places to eat in NYC.
The food was overpriced which we knew but the quality just wasn’t great. Two of our guest got sick that night. I also specified in the reservation and to the waitress that we were celebrating a birthday to please bring out a candle. That never happened. She came by our table maybe twice the whole night we had to ask for water or the check by asking other waiters.
This Destefano was amazing. All of their dishes where so tasty! Myself and my four friend each got something different and passed our plates around to each other to share! Our waiter was so kind and all his recommendations were amazing!!! This place is a must go when you are in NYC!
We were fortunate enough to get an early dinner reservation 6:30 pm the night before. We were seated immediately and enjoyed a wonderful meal. It got very busy by the time we were on our second course. The food, cocktails, and dessert were all wonderful. Admittedly I was a little sceptical because of mixed reviews but we had a great experience with staff, food and service and wouldn't hesitate to return again!
Food excellent as always. Incredibly noisy; made worse by a group of extremely loud alchohol-fueled women nearby. It really made having a conversation difficult. (I recently had a hearing test and was told my hearing was perfect, so this is a legitimate observation.) The restaurant should consider some sound-absorbing materials.
Very nice experience. Only a couple issues. We sat outside, in the back garden/patio. There were three of us, so we had two small tables pushed together. Both tables were wobbly. The chairs were small, and not that sturdy (and I am a 125lbs, so not me). Kind of felt off balance all evening.
They do no take any credit cards, other than American Express. I don't have an AE card, so I had to get cash out of the cash machine that they have in the restaurant. That was ok, but the machine only allows 200 max, so if I hadn't had some extra cash with me, I would not have been able to cover the bill and reasonable tip.
The waitress completely ruined my birthday. She embarrassed me in front of all my guest because she THOUGHT I wasn’t gonna tip. She didn’t even was nice at all, but as a decent client I still was gonna tip. Always do. And she though I didn’t because she took the check before we were done and said in front of my guests that we didn’t give her enough money. It was the worse thing have ever happen to me. She complete ruined my night and my birthday celebration. I will never going back to this place and is a shame because I used to go a lot and I will never recommend it to anyone. Worse experience ever.
I'd been wanting to go to this restaurant for weeks. So when my birthday came up seemed like the perfect excuse. Well unfortunately it fell short of satisfaction. Portions were very small. 3 of us ordered the pasta in the "cheese wheel" when arrived at the table all 3 portions were already in the wheel as oppose to each have our own. Therefore the cheese and spaghetti not proportioned evenly. Already the portion was extremely small. We were a party of 6 so they added gratuity (which is illegal in nyc) server never really cared about us. Made a horrible joke about not having the "cheese wheel" would've ordered more wine but server nowhere to be found. Didn't really care about us since he's already getting 20%. Left hungry and very disappointed for my birthday. Ended the night at dominos. Will not come back.
The staff were most helpful and accommodating for our group of 11. We were in a hurry because we were going to a concert afterward and they easily handled that. All staff were upbeat and pleasant. Menu was extensive with an interesting variety of appetizers and main courses. I would definitely go there again.
I was so excited to try this restaurant, but it turned out to be very disappointing. I'll start with the good: the wine, the appetizer, and the atmosphere. I had a pinot noir, and it was very smooth. My boyfriend and I split the eggplant timballo as an appetizer. It was a bit heavy for a starter, but I must admit that it was very tasty. The atmosphere is pleasant, and sitting outside is a plus if you enjoy watching passersby. The bad? Pretty much everything else. The main dishes were mediocre at best, not to mention that I got seriously ill while eating my meal. My boyfriend wasn't feeling too hot after his meal either. I got pasta with ground beef and tomato sauce, and my boyfriend got sliced steak with roasted potatoes. It was clear to the both of us that the quality of the beef was poor--it was drenched in oil and tasted a bit gamey. My pasta was also undercooked. For two glasses of wine, one appetizer, one main dish, and one pasta dish, our total came out to over $100. Quite honestly, even if the quality of the food was good, there wasn't anything revolutionary enough about our dishes to make it worth the exorbitant price. I can make pasta with Ragu and ground beef any night of the week. There was no reason to pay over $20 for that plate. Same with the steak dish. If you're looking for great pasta at a reasonable price, I'd skip Cacio e Pepe and walk a block down to San Marzano. I wanted to love Cacio e Pepe, but unfortunately, I will not be returning.
Best part is really sitting in the backyard. The front and inside are really not that great and remind a lot of fast food. So, when you get there, ask to sit in the back, weather permitting. Food is absolutely excellent. That night they seemed to be short-staffed and it took a while for the waitress to appear. But very friendly and good value.
I have been here many times and is always very good - the staff is very friendly and the food outstanding a great value for the price - hint - if a nice evening ask about the patio in back it is perfect!! The namesake dish is excellent and maybe even order one and share between the two of you for a starter as the meat and fish are great for a second
