Consistently excellent, this East Village gem is known for innovation and excellence in Roman cuisine. While Chef Salvatore Corea creates a seasonal menu, partners Alessandro Peluso and Giusto Priola note that Cacio e Pepe remains faithful to its signature namesake dish: home-made pasta brought to your table and spun in a wheel of pecorino cheese, then dusted with a flourish of pepper. Voted a ‘Critic’s Pick’ by New York Magazine, Cacio e Pepe is celebrated by reviewers as a classic Italian restaurant with a sense of style: A 50-seat garden is set behind the main dining room, there is al-fresco dining out front, and waiters with superior wine knowledge help you select the perfect beverage accompaniment to your meal. The mystery remains whether it is the garden, the cuisine, or the service which lifts Cacio e Pepe above and beyond its peers on the NYC restaurant scene. The answer, however, may best be expressed in French: It has that je ne se qua.

The namesake Cacio e Pepe is to die for!! Also, the cappuccino was one of the more delicious ones I’ve had!

My wife and I have been looking for an Italian restaurant which serves pasta in a wheel of cheese. We were very excited about Cacio e Pepe plate but it was not good at all. It was way too salty to start with. The noodle was not cooked well either. We also got a Gnocchi dish which was bland. The Gnocchi was very well cooked but overall dish was nothing special.

The food was good; my problems are with the seating (way too many tables squeezed into a small space) and the noise level (so high that we had to shout at each other across the table)

The food was great! Especially loved the cacio e peppe dish and the ricotta cheesecake.

The only thing I’d recommend is bigger portions. The pasta I got was SUCH a small dish

One of the best Pasta places I've ever been to. Their specialty is amazing! The gnocchi was so light and fluffy Highly recommended for the Pasta !

One of our go to places when we come to NY. Pastas are wonderful. Although a crowded place- Service is excellent. A true neighborhood gem!

This is the famous place where your Cacio e Pepe pasta is tossed in a cheese wheel at your table. Cute attraction, but none of us got it as we were all hungry, and could see other people who ordered the dish gobbled it up in 2 minutes. That being said we got the buccatini with guanciale, brisket ragu with chocolate, lasagna, and gnocchi. All were hits with my friends. The lasagna was def not enough. The buccatini with guanciale was my favorite and a great portion. The ragu with chocolate was all gobbled up as well. Same with the gnocchi. My only feedback is the service. Our 9pm table wasn't ready until 9:15pm, which was fine as the people were paying. The hostess called us in, but then said we couldn't sit until the table was reset. . . So then why did you call us in?

Then, when we said we needed 2 more minutes to order our food, the waitress didn't come back for 15 minutes. . .

Last one. We told our main waitress we weren't interested in dessert and then the hostess came by 2 minutes later shoving dessert menus at all of us. No communication.

I would definitely come back here, just know that the service isn't the best. Food is delicious though. Good stick to your ribs Italian food.

The staff was extremely rude. The waitress asked us if we were ready to order as soon as we sat and continued to ask 3 times in the next 5 minutes. She rushed us the entire meal. Once we paid the check, she picked it up off the table before we had left. The hostess then proceeded to ask us to leave because they had a reservation. We had been sitting for less than an hour and 15 minutes. I have never experienced such rude service and couldn’t believe I was asked to leave after such a short time. I will not be returning.

Restaurant was nearly empty on a Tuesday night. Server was generally absent although the busboys were helpful. Server gave us the wrong Italian wine (did they not have what we ordered?) which we didn't realize until midway through the meal. She didn't offer to give us what we ordered. Food was just okay. The namesake pasta (Cacio e Pepe) was good but not worth the trip.

Not the most incredible service or atmosphere but for that price point, the food is creative and outstanding. Will definitely be back.

Consistently among my favorite places in The City for pasta and authentic Roman cuisine from someone who has visited Rome over 30 times . . . the signature cacio e pepe is about as good as it gets, and the coda alla vaccinara is truly exceptional. Absolutely love coming here for family dinners, and Valentina is pure joy to have as a server!

Everything else was nice - service, food, simple wine list, authentic neighborhood gem.

The food is superb. The staff is gracious and seems unhurried when taking care of a guest. The noise level at busy times (most times) is high but one can manage a conversation.

We set the occasion as date night and got seated at a table secluded in the back. We felt like we were the only people in the restaurant. The food was great and service was adequately attentive. Overall a great night.

The appetizers were the only reason I gave this place a two. The food wasn’t good. The cheese wheel pasta was cold. The pasta was dry. The place was tiny. The prices were outrageous for the poor quality of food. The lasagna was very bland. The meatballs were literally the only highlight of the meal.

The meal we shared with family here last week was simply extraordinary . . . friendly, warm, relaxing, authentic, and every morsel truly delicious. After over 30 trips to Rome, the food here rivals anything we have enjoyed in Rome's quality family-owned restaurants . . . of course, the signature Cacio e Pepe pasta is to die for, but so is the Coda alla Vaccinara, and the wine list is great . . . after a fine bottle of Valpoicella Ripasso, the Calabrian Terra Damia recommended was a real treat. Special thanks to Valentina and Salvatore for your gracious contributions to all the fun we had enjoying this exquisite meal . . . semplicemente meravigliosa - Grazie mille!
