Consistently excellent, this East Village gem is known for innovation and excellence in Roman cuisine. While Chef Salvatore Corea creates a seasonal menu, partners Alessandro Peluso and Giusto Priola note that Cacio e Pepe remains faithful to its signature namesake dish: home-made pasta brought to your table and spun in a wheel of pecorino cheese, then dusted with a flourish of pepper. Voted a ‘Critic’s Pick’ by New York Magazine, Cacio e Pepe is celebrated by reviewers as a classic Italian restaurant with a sense of style: A 50-seat garden is set behind the main dining room, there is al-fresco dining out front, and waiters with superior wine knowledge help you select the perfect beverage accompaniment to your meal. The mystery remains whether it is the garden, the cuisine, or the service which lifts Cacio e Pepe above and beyond its peers on the NYC restaurant scene. The answer, however, may best be expressed in French: It has that je ne se qua.

The food was delicious. It was a little bit expensive and it was cash only- those are my only criticisms. The service was great, the food was great, the portions were great, and the ambience was great.

Only complaint was the cash only or AMEX. No big deal though, there is an ATM at the back of the restaurant. Would like to try the patio next time!

A group of four of us dined here before heading to the theater. We sat in the garden, which is really lovely. Our food was terrific. And of course, if you go to Cacio e Pepe, you have to order the namesake dish - it's a rich pasta swirled in cheese. We shared two orders as an appetizer. The waiter brings it to the table in a huge block of cheese, which is a wonderful presentation.

Happened upon this restaurant while searching around online for a place in NYC to get a good dish of Cacio e Pepe. Well, I had to try the place that named itself after the dish! My sister and I came on a lovely evening and sat in the back garden. We were not disappointed! Food was delicious and presented beautifully and the garden was very pleasant & a nice oasis away from the street. Will definitely go back!

I love cacio e pepe!! I will definitely be back for the fun of watching our server prepare our pasta in a cheese wheel. I've only seen it in videos and finally I've tried it out in person. The quality of the pasta is great and we had the gnocchi as well which was very filling. Love this place! So much fun, but would probably not be great if you'd like to dine in a quiet place. It's typically lively and the chairs and tables are extremely small. You would only want to bring a small party in to dine at this place. Still worth it for trying good pasta around NYC!!

We have visited Cacio e Pepe a number of times and have always been delighted with the food and the service. This time, however (a Saturday night, which may have made a difference), the tables were pushed so close together that every time the woman behind me shifted in her chair, I had to move mine--and the noise level was beyond acceptable. We are older folks, and we simply could not hear one another. I was more than satisfied, as always, with the food and the attentiveness of the wait staff, but frankly I could hardly wait to get back out into the air--and the quiet of Second Ave!

The restaurant named after the dish (or vice versa ?) lives up to its name mainly because of the delectable dish Cacio e Pepe. Spaghetti served out of a huge bowl made of pecorino cheese (!!). Out of this world ! As if this was not enough the special artisanal beer (La Birra De Meni) and the Tiramisu sent one into gastronomical orbit !!
A MUST VISIT !
Only downside was the noise due to the small space. Maybe time to scale up ?

We wanted to like this place so much, but unfortunately just couldn't. It was overpriced compared to other (better) Italian restaurants in the same neighborhood, it smelled like someone had broken a bottle of cologne, and the floor could have used a good cleaning. We were trying to make the best of it, when a waiter slid in between our table and the next with a giant bowl made entirely out of a block of parmesan cheese. He had someone's pasta entrée in it, and was mixing it around as part of their "table service." There is absolutely no way that they use a new block of cheese each time, and I would be shocked if they didn't use one block for days in a row, given how much a block of cheese that big must cost. Seeing the pasta scraped around with all that cream in that block of warm parmesan turned our stomachs and we had to leave. I have never seen anything so gross in my life.

Very good Italian food at this lively restaurant. Service was good and it has a fun atmosphere. The downside is the space is a bit cramped with tables close together, and the noise levels are very high. It was difficult to have a conversation.

The service at the restaurant was the worst both me and my friend have ever encountered. They had us shift our table in a rush and as a result my friend’s glass of wine fell spilling into my food, onto my phone, and onto me. The hostess responsible just walked away. Our waitress offered to bring my friend a new class, we accepted, but she never followed through. Later, when she brought us the bill we were charged for the glass, when we asked about it the waitress essentially threw a fit saying it was our fault. We offered to pay for the glass but she grabbed the check away and said no she would change it, but upon returning threw the check on the table. We saw the waitstaff talk about us while they took the twenty minutes to change the check too.

My wife and I have been looking for an Italian restaurant which serves pasta in a wheel of cheese. We were very excited about Cacio e Pepe plate but it was not good at all. It was way too salty to start with. The noodle was not cooked well either. We also got a Gnocchi dish which was bland. The Gnocchi was very well cooked but overall dish was nothing special.

The food was good; my problems are with the seating (way too many tables squeezed into a small space) and the noise level (so high that we had to shout at each other across the table)

This is the famous place where your Cacio e Pepe pasta is tossed in a cheese wheel at your table. Cute attraction, but none of us got it as we were all hungry, and could see other people who ordered the dish gobbled it up in 2 minutes. That being said we got the buccatini with guanciale, brisket ragu with chocolate, lasagna, and gnocchi. All were hits with my friends. The lasagna was def not enough. The buccatini with guanciale was my favorite and a great portion. The ragu with chocolate was all gobbled up as well. Same with the gnocchi. My only feedback is the service. Our 9pm table wasn't ready until 9:15pm, which was fine as the people were paying. The hostess called us in, but then said we couldn't sit until the table was reset. . . So then why did you call us in?

Then, when we said we needed 2 more minutes to order our food, the waitress didn't come back for 15 minutes. . .

Last one. We told our main waitress we weren't interested in dessert and then the hostess came by 2 minutes later shoving dessert menus at all of us. No communication.

I would definitely come back here, just know that the service isn't the best. Food is delicious though. Good stick to your ribs Italian food.

The staff was extremely rude. The waitress asked us if we were ready to order as soon as we sat and continued to ask 3 times in the next 5 minutes. She rushed us the entire meal. Once we paid the check, she picked it up off the table before we had left. The hostess then proceeded to ask us to leave because they had a reservation. We had been sitting for less than an hour and 15 minutes. I have never experienced such rude service and couldn’t believe I was asked to leave after such a short time. I will not be returning.
