We live in the neighborhood and come here several times year on special occasions. We are planning on dropping by of a late afternoon in between these occasions, sitting at the bar, and indulging in creative drinks and appetizers.
once again Cabezon fails to disappoint, everything is perfect and they also make an epic Manhattan. We had salads and the fish entree's. Our server was awesome, attentive and not over bearing. they even have great bread.
One of my favorite restaurants in Portland.
We dined on Monday night and so it wasn't quite full, and that might be a reason for carrying the conversation easily without a whole lot of noises. But the best part was the seafood, the mussels, the tuna, the cioppino, the bread...on and on; everything was superbly done. Oh, the Whiskey ice cream was very tasty! Our party of four thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
We had heard wonderful things about Cabezon and I was looking for a seafood restaurant to celebrate my birthday with out of town family. The experience started out positive - we had a reservation and the hostess even asked our preference of two tables. However, the service was incredibly slow. Drink orders took nearly 15 minutes to be received. Generally the services was par to sub-par. But it was the disappointing food. Please know that the menu on their website is not what is “always” available plus daily specials. It’s possible our party dined there on a night with a menu that wasn’t what we were looking for... and I understand that.
I am NOT someone who seeks to write negative (or less than stellar) reviews of restaurants. But I do think this restaurant is a tad overhyped and you need to go in knowing the menu is not what is posted online plus daily additions/specials. Even then, for the quality and service, I would not go back.
Very good meal and great service . Definitely go back here again.
Our first time there, and we'lldefinitely return. Food and service both excellent, and a good value. We really liked the ambience. Nice comfortable, relaxed atmosphere.
Love this place - always!
We came on a Friday night and the place was packed. The noise level almost dissuaded us from staying...but fortunately, we took a chance that it would improve. We are glad we did. We loved the food which was expertly prepared and quite delicious. The drinks were good as well. The waiter was a pro and despite the crowd, managed to provide good service. We will be back though we may choose a weeknight instead..
The service was great (attentive, not obtrusive), the food was incredible, and the pacing was perfect.
Glad to discover this gem!
Wonderful in all ways!
Wine list was very nice and not too "fussy".
We had a couple of fish specials and the cod off the regular menu; and shared a fabulous dessert (profita rolls).
Staff was pleasant and felt right at home.
Wonderful dinner with exceptional quality local ingredients. Service was very good and non-obtrusive. Loved the marlin and my sister really enjoy the steak. And, we share chocolate for dessert! I will definitely be back.
Very positive experience. Ambiance cozy & good, staff friendly & attentive, food delicious & tasty. Will come again.
Cioppino was full of a variety of seafood and perfect amount of spice. Cocktails, wine were good. Lamb was cooked perfectly. Overall a very enjoyable dinner for my birthday. I will come back.
Your restaurant was recommended by a friend, and it did not disappoint! Nice ambiance and the food was excellent. Bursting with flavor. We will definitely be back. :-)
We have lived in the same neighborhood for 9 years and this is our favorite place to go when we want to relax and have a great drink or glass of wine. We also love to bring friends, family and business acquaintances here because it is fabulous food with a focus on the best of the Pacific NW. We feel very fortunate to have this option just around the corner :)
We decided to try Cabezon during March Dining month. The menu was perfect— 3 of my favorite things: salt cod fritters, seafood bouillabaisse, and ginger cake with pears. The service was excellent—warm, friendly, & efficient. Glad we got to try this little neighborhood restaurant. We will return.
The Portland Dining Month menu was incredible! Great food, great service! An excellent evening all around! Would highly recommend Cabezon!!
Ok, I know it’s called Salt Cod but in fact when you have this dish in the traditional communities like Portugal it is not salty. I think the idea is that the salt preserves the fish but then when you are preparing it there is a many day procedure to soak the salt out of the fish to make it edible. Read into this comment what you will.
The dining area to the left is quiet and comfy.
I had a chance to spend a few minutes with Jackie, one of the owners and relayed these compliments to her and her staff: I chose the alternate to the Restaurant Month Menu special, a fresh halibut fillet over a bed of fingerling potatoes, pickled octopus and a vinegar pan sauce. It was outstanding. The fish was perfect and the sides were spot on. The bread was crusty, fresh and served with a side of unsalted butter with some garnishing salt cracked over the top. That could have been my dinner with a glass of wine from their creative wine list. I saw some vintner's products that I had not seen in a restaurant cellar. The Wait staff was attentive but not intrusive. I didn't feel rushed to finish and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Everyone was busy and covered for each other so not one of the patrons had to want for anything. Entrée was served hot off the pan and smelled incredible (and it was!!!) I am from out of town and picked Cabezon off of Opentable after I read what other patrons had said and I was not disappointed!!! If I could have had a restaurant, it would have been just like this!!! Next time I am in PDX, I will go back!
We had Netarts oysters as an appetizer and they were delicious. I had the lamb which was absolutely perfect along with the huckleberry drop. My partner had the cioppino, it was tasty but light on seafood. He enjoyed it but would have appreciated a heartier filling. Dessert was creme brulee and the Makers Mark ice cream, both were delicious.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. We hope to go back soon.
We went for Portland dining month, since it's a god time to try out new restaurants, and I'm glad we did! This cute little quaint place is a gem in a slightly hidden area near Sandy Blvd. The seating is cozy, but not to where you feel like you're encroaching in on your neighbors conversation. They had a fun selection of mixed drinks, and a very nice wine list. The seafood is AMAZING! We had the fritters, cioppino, and spice cake. I couldn't say a bad thing about any of it. Our waitress (I really wish I remembered her name) was the best. Knowledgeable about the menu, substitute items, and specials. She was prompt, didn't leave us feeling like we didn't matter, and made sure we were well taken care of. Even on a busy Saturday evening. I will be going back!
We had a reservation but opted to sit at the bar, which we always find to be more fun. The bartender took great care of us. My husband ordered the PDM menu, and I ordered Mahi. Growing up in Hawaii, I've had my share of Mahi. This might have been the best I've eaten. Everything we ordered was fresh, delicious. We will return soon, and will take friends. Our son and his wife recommended Cabezon, as they loved their experience as well. So happy we finally got to enjoy Cabezon! Thank you!
We have been to Cabezon many times and have never been disappointed. The food is fresh, delicious, and plated nicely. Staff is knowledgeable and efficient. It is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant.
Food was amazing. Our server, Rachel, was one of the best I’ve encountered in a long time. It is surprising how much great service stands out and can enhance the experience. Thank you!
Wonderful dinner. We enjoyed visiting Cabezon as part of Portland Monthly. The Cioppino was excellent. I will be back.
Very Delicious and Thoughtfully Prepared Dishes. Servers were very attentive.
Yummy, beautifully presented, attentive staff, share tips with kitchen
We went to Cabezon as part of Portland Dining Month. My husband and I have always enjoyed this restaurant, but hadn't been in a few years. It was great to see that the dining room had expanded, and I hope it continues to prosper in the neighborhood for many years to come. My husband had the dining month menu, but I opted for the mussels with a side of fries. Amazing cocktails and a dozen oysters to start (the best dozen we've had this month), and from the time we sat down to when we left almost 2 hours later, we were blessed with great food and wonderful service. We're making Dining Month a chance to have a Sunday night date, and so far we've been to Imperial and Bar Avignon. Cabezon was the best, no question.
My friend and I had a great Portland dining month meal. From the cod croquettes to the seafood stew to the ginger cake with pear compote, everything was delicious. Service was great too.
The moment we told them we were sticking to the Dine About Town menu, they ignored us. Our food wasn't so much delivered, as dropped by as a servery ran near us. I've since learned the place is known for it's poor service, but great food, so maybe it was a coincidence. I won't go there again -- for me, the quality of the service is as important as the food.
It was very good food atmosphere and the ambiance
This is in my neighborhood and have walked by it for several years. Tried it for Portland dining month and learned what I had been missing. Service was great and well timed, food was excellent, very fresh, flavorful with the flavors well balanced and a very nice presentation. Nice atmosphere also...I was able to feel like the conversation with my friend was private which isn't the case in some restaurants.
not that busy on a Thursday night. Ordered the March dining month special it was okay but it took 2 hours to be served the 3 courses. It was painfully slow and the hard wooden seating is not very comfortable for such a long dining experience. There was no explanation for the very long delays between the courses. I wouldn't go back.
Good food, good portions, great service, nice atmosphere...perhaps a bit on the spendy side.
We’ve been here several times and will return again.
Fantastic food, service!! Will return!
We arrived just prior to our reservation time. The place was packed (due to Portland Dining Month) on a Monday. We were greeted promptly and told that our table would be ready soon, the people at it were just finishing up.
We were seated at the bar until our table was ready. Grabbed a glass of wine and chatted.
Our table was ready about twenty minutes later. Not to worry, the bar seating was fine.
The service and food were great. This was my first visit and it will not be my last.
We have enjoyed coming here in the past but this was the first time service was painfully slow. We had a 6:15pm reservation and didn’t leave until close to nine. We sat between meals what seemed like forever. Never had anyone ask if we wanted refills on our beverages, never was asked how the food was, and my food arrived lukewarm. I didn’t send it back because I didn’t think I could wait for it to come back. Staff and food are normally great so not sure if it was just an off night.
