Cabezon Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant has 3 rooms- the first time we ate here, we were in a corner, front table- and not so many guests, so very quiet. This time I asked for quite table-there were two large parties so more difficult, but they did seat us in another corner - and the large party next to us was quiet, but the two fellows next to us were loud. When they left, it was easy for us (older adults) to hear.
The food is excellent- we will be back.
Crab/Lobster Pot Pie special appetizer was excellent. We both got the Cioppino...was flavorful and one of the better Ciopinnos I've had in a restaurant, however, had toomuch "heat". We both love spicy food and heat but there comes a point where adding more heat actually ruins the dish...you get the heat but the other flavors start to wash out (ie the seafood all tastes the same)...and this dish just crossed that line...too bad.
Our waitress was very pleasant and nice but OUR service was horribly slow. Tables on both sides of us were being served more rapidly (same waitress). One table came 20 minutes after us and left 30 minutes before us...they had an appetizer and a "cooked" fish dish. We waited 25 minutes for bread (we got our bread when the table above got theirs), and 45 minutes for our appetizer. Dinner came 1:15 hours after ordering...and it was "soup." Waitress did say "thanks for waiting" when our dinners came but no free dessert or bill discount for what appears to be her forgetting to put our orders in.
We bought a bottle of wine and had planned to drink half and take half home (being responsible drivers and all). We finished the whole bottle and were sober enough to drive home after being there 2.5 hours
Great meal with friends at Cabazon - the mussels where cooked perfectly followed by the Cioppino with a great assortment of fresh fish. Our friends had the cod what tasted out of this world. The char on the outside of the cod was amazing. We would recommend this place and plan on coming back later this year.
Somewhat bummed.... there were so many great reviews. We are thinking it was just an off night. The Restaurant is very quaint and cozy, we sat in wonderful high back arm chairs which were very comfy. The noise level is medium - just an energetic buzz. The food was ok - unfortunately we all ordered the same thing, so it may have just been that dish (again the reviews lead me to hope) The service was just off, plain and simple. Service can make or break a dining experience. We were so happy to be with friends, and tend to be 'go with the flow' kind of people, so while it didn't completely ruin our meal/time, we definitely noticed and commented about it on the way home.
This was our second visit to Cabezone. This meal was as wonderful as the first. My husband had the lamb and dumplings with rosemary. The lamb was perfectly cooked, tender, and wonderfully seasoned. He enjoyed every bite and cleaned the plate with some bread! I had the macaroni and cheese appetizer. It was creamy, cheesy and had a perfect amount of spiciness. I ended the meal with the chocolate pot a crème which was suburb. The texture was amazingly smooth. It had a consistency that was more like a ganache -- a bit heavier than most pot a crèmes I've eaten. It was most satisfying -- with a cup of freshly brewed coffee -- and not too sweet. We will definitely return to this lovely restaurant soon. BTW, during out first meal there (2 weeks ago), my husband had the monkfish. He made sure to tell the chef it was the best prepared and delicious fish -- of any kind -- he'd ever had in his life.
Super good food ( seafood) & really tasty cocktails
Decor needs to be updated to elevate to next level. Because the food is SO GOOD!!!! ( Nix the tin ceiling/upholstered high back chairs & Cafe au lait paint)- coming from a designer ;-) so I’m picky
Our third time here, haven't had a dish short of outstanding. The oysters, basil wrapped shrimp and mac n' cheese were good starters, the halibut was excellent. Service is prompt and timely without being intrusive. Server very knowledgable about menu. We were in a recessed alcove by the entry door and noise seemed much less than I remember.
Truly excellent seafood. Cioppino usually not my thing, but here was not overly heavy and tasted delicious. Cheese board was fantastic. Caesar salad and bread very lovely. Pinot noir on the money. Servers busy but get the job done. Decor is interesting, homey, though seating a bit odd in places. Parking at first quite hard, tricky streets to navigate. Just be patient. Worth the visit to Cabezon for fresh seafood and a unique Portland experience.
It took a bit to get a drink after seating, but everything else was excellent and the service improved as the night continued on; she was just really busy. The food is really good and my date and I would both recommend it for good seafood in the Portland area.
After several visits to this restaurant I have never been disappointed. The food, the service, and the ambiance of Cabezon are perfect for any occasion. You cannot ask for a better dining experience anywhere in Portland, at any price. If I want to impress someone, this is where I take them! Menus update daily.
This restaurant is not as good as it once was. Seems like they have fallen into a rut. Condition of the restroom was appalling. Special appetizer of the evening was barely above average. Our seafood dishes were on the same par as many other restaurants -- nothing special.
The food was good, not spectacular considering the Portland food scene. However, the biggest disappointment was at the start of the meal when my dining companion and I wanted to share a Caeser Salad. It came to us way overdressed - too much dressing, too much cheese. We asked the server who brought it to us to have the kitchen split it for us. He hesitated a moment and took it back to the kitchen. It came back moments later with our original server, not split. She informed us that the chef wanted it presented this way, that it was their intention to look like the mess it was.
I made an effort to split it, but then had them take it away after one bite. It was inedible.
The arrogance of the kitchen astounds me even days after. If the chef or one of his staff feels that they can be a diva, they better earn it with outstanding food. Arrogance has no place where mediocrity is evident.
BTW, we didn't ask, nor did they note whether it was taken off our bill. It really doesn't matter. I won't be back and have already I have already told friends of my experience.
Cabezon is just terrific and has been our go-to restaurants for special occasions for years. We often come from our respective birthdays and our anniversary. The staff is tremendous and the food fresh and delicious. I am also a huge fan of their cocktails. We love to it at the bar and watch the chefs work. We can't recommend this place more highly.
We found the food and environment underwhelming for the prices. The cioppino was fairly spicy and had texture of too much tomato paste, and for some ungodly reason they plopped a huge dollop of creme fraiche in the middle of the stew, effectively contaminating the entire dish with sour curdles of dairy. We didn't even think to ask about preventing this culinary catastrophe (because who does this?). The stew came with two small, anemic pieces of toast. Go elsewhere.
A lovely, quiet spot, tastefully decorated with special touches such as the glass art chandelier which made me think of work I've seen by Chihuly, just lovely. There are 2 dining areas, the one with the chandelier was romantic. Service was thoughtful and efficient and food choices all sounded so good. Not a whole lot of options, but what was there was excellent quality and the menu seems to change often (daily?) The bread was so very good and when we return I'm going to avail myself of the Maker's Mark Whisky ice cream profiteroles. Nice wine list too.
Had dinner with my fiance, his dad, and my mom. The menu had a nice range of appetizers and entrees, most of which are seafood based. Everyone enjoyed their meal. We had two nice bottles of wine at reasonable prices. It was quiet enough that hard-of-hearing parents could hear the conversation. Nice atmosphere, somewhat formal but not "fine dining." A balance between fancy enough to feel like a special meal, but casual enough to be quite relaxing.
Took my in-law to show off a neighborhood gem. They are not very adventurous and was a bit rocky when reading the menu. That was until I got a few apps and they proclaimed "wow, someone in that kitchen knows how to cook!"
Fabulous evening in a sexy restaurant. Thanks to staff for being patient and very helpful.
