Cabezon Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
This was our first visit and it won't be our last. We went there for my Husband's Birthday. The food was absolutely wonderful. We found ourselves sharing bites from each other plates. We usually don't indulge in dessert but this time we did. Pot du Crème and Illy coffee. What a way to celebrate a special day. I think this is where I want to go on my Birthday.
This was our first time here and we will be back. This is a neighborhood gem that is lively and energetic. The seafood dishes were well crafted and tasty. The servers are timely, helpful and knowledgeable. Our server Norman was wonderful. Prices are about average for a nice meal.
For the quality and expensive ingredients, the end dishes were just so-so. The king cod was beautifully prepared but the vege underneath were undercooked and purée not seasoned enough. Foie gras was beautifully paired with grapefruit and arugula but was rubbery. My husband’s lamb was the toughest piece of lamb we have encountered and he’s from New Zealand. He sawed through it with a steak knife and the olives were too salty with it. Great neighborhood place with nice vibe. The food and service disappoint.
We had a reservation and were seated without much of a wait on New Year's Eve. Waitstaff was quite knowledgeable and service was good. They don't "split" checks which was a surprise. It would have been nice for them to check if we wanted more coffee after dessert. I was surprised we were able to park so close to the restaurant.
Had a reservation for New Year's Eve which was confirmed on behalf of the restaurant in an email I received at 11:30 a.m. that day. When we arrived at the restaurant for our reservation, we were told we had never made one. Given that it was New Year's Eve we had no choice but to sit at the bar. Provided restaurant with written proof we had a reservation and asked only for an apology and assurances it would not happen again. We have received no apology. We have been going to this restaurant at least 3 or 4 times a year since they opened in 2009-2010 and never have experienced such rudeness. As for the food we had, the sea bass entree was very good however, the crab cake pot pie was a huge disappointment since the amount of crab in both my pot pie and my wife's pot pie was negligible. Not the way to treat customers. Extremely disappointed.
Cabezon is our go-to spot for date night or whenever we have out of town guests. Amazing food, highlighting the best fish and seafood of the PNW, with a menu that changes enough each time to be interesting but always has their star dishes, like the cioppino and mussles. The owners are delightful and all the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Such a great vibe and ambiance through the whole restaurant. We also had a dinner party in their back room with 20 people. They worked with us on the menu and all our guests were so impressed with the food, price was on-point, and service was excellent!
A girlfriend and I were going to The Grotto and had a reservation for dinner afterwards at Cabezon. Although we wound up being more than an hour early, the hostess graciously found a table for us. All of our food was beautiful and delicious - beet salad, steamed mussels, lamb. Bonus: when they needed our table for the next reservation, the hostess offered to buy our dessert if we would move to the bar. So we ended the evening with a scrumptious pot de creme. Cabezon is a great find, and I’ll definitely be back.
After selecting a steak and potatoes dish from a menu limited in its gluten free options, I asked the server to request that the kitchen remove the bread crumb topping from the potato gratin to accommodate my allergy to gluten. I was told that "chef" insists on serving his dishes as he created them and that I could remove the topping myself if I wanted to. We have had good experiences at this restaurant before but this degree of belligerence and retention is unacceptable and we will not be back.
This restaurant has 3 rooms- the first time we ate here, we were in a corner, front table- and not so many guests, so very quiet. This time I asked for quite table-there were two large parties so more difficult, but they did seat us in another corner - and the large party next to us was quiet, but the two fellows next to us were loud. When they left, it was easy for us (older adults) to hear.
The food is excellent- we will be back.
Crab/Lobster Pot Pie special appetizer was excellent. We both got the Cioppino...was flavorful and one of the better Ciopinnos I've had in a restaurant, however, had toomuch "heat". We both love spicy food and heat but there comes a point where adding more heat actually ruins the dish...you get the heat but the other flavors start to wash out (ie the seafood all tastes the same)...and this dish just crossed that line...too bad.
Our waitress was very pleasant and nice but OUR service was horribly slow. Tables on both sides of us were being served more rapidly (same waitress). One table came 20 minutes after us and left 30 minutes before us...they had an appetizer and a "cooked" fish dish. We waited 25 minutes for bread (we got our bread when the table above got theirs), and 45 minutes for our appetizer. Dinner came 1:15 hours after ordering...and it was "soup." Waitress did say "thanks for waiting" when our dinners came but no free dessert or bill discount for what appears to be her forgetting to put our orders in.
We bought a bottle of wine and had planned to drink half and take half home (being responsible drivers and all). We finished the whole bottle and were sober enough to drive home after being there 2.5 hours
Great meal with friends at Cabazon - the mussels where cooked perfectly followed by the Cioppino with a great assortment of fresh fish. Our friends had the cod what tasted out of this world. The char on the outside of the cod was amazing. We would recommend this place and plan on coming back later this year.
Somewhat bummed.... there were so many great reviews. We are thinking it was just an off night. The Restaurant is very quaint and cozy, we sat in wonderful high back arm chairs which were very comfy. The noise level is medium - just an energetic buzz. The food was ok - unfortunately we all ordered the same thing, so it may have just been that dish (again the reviews lead me to hope) The service was just off, plain and simple. Service can make or break a dining experience. We were so happy to be with friends, and tend to be 'go with the flow' kind of people, so while it didn't completely ruin our meal/time, we definitely noticed and commented about it on the way home.
This was our second visit to Cabezone. This meal was as wonderful as the first. This visit, my husband had the lamb and dumplings with rosemary. The lamb was perfectly cooked, tender, and wonderfully seasoned. He enjoyed every bite and cleaned the plate with some bread! I had the macaroni and cheese appetizer with a glass of Chardonnay...and dessert. The appetizer was creamy, cheesy and had a perfect amount of spiciness. I typically drink other white wines but our waiter's recommendation was wonderful -- not too dry or oaky. Our meal ended with the chocolate pot a crème: It was SUBURB. The texture was amazingly smooth. It had a consistency that was a bit more like a ganache -- slightly heavier than most pot a crèmes but an amazing smooth and luscious mouth feel. It was absolutely delicious -- with a cup of freshly brewed coffee -- and not too sweet. We will definitely return to this lovely restaurant soon. BTW, during out first meal there (2 weeks ago), my husband had the monkfish (baked bone in). He made sure to tell the chef it was the best prepared and delicious fish -- of any kind -- he'd ever had in his life.
We love this neighborhood restaurant! My husband and I have been coming here for special occasions and Thursday night "treats" - since it opened. Love the cheese/paté to start the meal with some nice cocktails. My husband can always find a solid fish dish (or meat) with delicious vegetables and great presentation. I prefer pasta or shrimp and both are prepared deliciously. Whenever we have indulged in desserts, they have been excellent.
However, on our last visit there was a mix up with our reservation. This was my mother-in-law's 85th bday and I had made a reservation for 4 at least 3 weeks in advance using Open Table. When we arrived, Jackie (I believe she is part owner and runs the front of the restaurant) couldn't "find" the reservation on her system though I showed her mine on my phone. Luckily, they were able to seat us, but not in the side room which I had requested (it's carpeted and much quieter.) A dessert was comped for my mother-in-law, but I never really got an apology for their mess up :(
Lesson learned- while I use Open Table and have never had a problem before, for an important occasion I will go "old school" and confirm by phone!
Super good food ( seafood) & really tasty cocktails
Decor needs to be updated to elevate to next level. Because the food is SO GOOD!!!! ( Nix the tin ceiling/upholstered high back chairs & Cafe au lait paint)- coming from a designer ;-) so I’m picky
Our third time here, haven't had a dish short of outstanding. The oysters, basil wrapped shrimp and mac n' cheese were good starters, the halibut was excellent. Service is prompt and timely without being intrusive. Server very knowledgable about menu. We were in a recessed alcove by the entry door and noise seemed much less than I remember.
