My husband and I had a date night and we decided to go for the a la carte option and not the tasting - the food was amazing and cooked to perfection from the starter right down to brewing their own coffee table side - we will be back! ❤️❤️
Our party of 4 start with fantastic beet and foie gras appetizers. Excellent!!! Our entrees were superb with excellent service that included a detail description of each entree. A great meal. Very sorry to see this place close.

What a wonderful meal prepared by Chef Thomas Hauck and his staff. From a great bottle of wine to yummy desserts, everything was delicious and beautifully prepared. Our server was friendly and helpful. So sad this gem is closing. Thanks Chef Tom!

Food: for the price, the food was not as flavorful or vibrant as other places we have dined in the same category of "fine dining". Nothing was bad, the food was good, but not as good as others in the category
Ambiance: just mediocre. We were seated in the back and the seating wasn't comfortable. They were not chairs. The bar area would be nice for meeting friends.
Value: for around $50 more, we could have gone to a restraunt at the same "fine dining" level as c1880, and gotten food that was more flavorful for the price.
Celebrated our son’s 21st birthday, a milestone! We enjoyed the tasting menu. Excellent experience- food, service, vibe. C.1880is a neighborhood gem, we will be sad to see it close.
This restaurant will permanently close soon. It's kitty-corner from my daughter's apartment, and one of the top 30 restaurants in Milwaukee. So we decided to try it. Everything was good, but didn't WOW us. Plating was beautiful. We did not take pictures because it is not appropriate in this pricey of a place. We would have appreciated (sorry) salt on the table. We'd have been civilized enough to taste before sprinkling.
If c.1880 were going to be open longer, we'd likely try it again, and would recommend to others.
Unique menu, very tasty. Staff friendly. Cold if you sit by the door. Good selection of wines.

Outstanding food and service. The only possible criticism was that the dinner rolls were barely warm, not hot. The foie Gras was a terrine, not sautéed meat, but it was very good. The pork Howell was rich and yummy. Great Waldorf salad, scallops, ant trout. The food portions were all shareable, so we could have ordered four dishes and made three courses. We would have still been stuffed. Very good $12 wines by the glass. The 7 course price fixe would be huge, bring your appetite.
TOTAL disappointment and waste of money. We’ve been trying to go to c1800 because of the ratings on Open Table, and anticipated a wonderful meal. From the first, when they seated us in an uncomfortable back corner, it was a disaster. The foie gras wasn’t. It was a light mousse that could have been anything and looked like a can of cat food emptied on a plate, paired with a greased soaked and fried biscuit. The duck was undercooked and lacked any flavor or subtlety, except for a raw 5-spice sauce they poured over it. I had to send mine back because I couldn’t chew it. The vegetables were ok, but basic. The veal cheeks were dry and stringy. The worst was the dessert. Do not on any circumstances get the “whatchmacallit.” It is a huge dish of old cereal mixed with whatever, topped with mediocre vanilla and chocolate custard (see picture). And the special surprise for our birthdays? Multicolored sprinkles! Nothing was well proportioned or plated, nuanced, or even just plain good. Staff was fine, if a little distant.
The service, wine, and food were all excellent. It was a little uncomfortable that we were the only guests in the restaurant.
Our party of 6 had 6:30 reservations and was seated promptly. Unfortunately, the table was adjacent to the bathrooms. We had a direct view of the toilets each time the bathroom doors were opened. A simple screen could easily remedy this situation. Timing between drink orders, appetizers and entrees was lengthy. Over 45 minutes for our entrees even though we placed the order at the same time as the appetizers. No explanation or apology for the delay. Food was spotty. Some dishes were well prepared such as the pork belly and beef tartare appetizers as well as lamb and scallops entrees. The duck and pork chop entrees were uninspired. We finally escaped at 9:15 very disappointed that our visit to c1880 was such a bust. At a similar price point we have had much superior experiences at several other restaurants in the Walkers Point area.

I'm afraid that the c1880 kitchen wasn't at its best for our table Saturday night. That said, there were enough high points for me to return on another occasion. The appetizers/salads were all excellent, especially the Waldorf and beet salads, which although they sound ordinary, were transformed into something very inventive because of the unique sauces and unexpected ingredients. Our problems related to 2 of the 4 entrees not being properly cooked....resulting in rare Pork and rubbery duck. Dessert went a long way toward making up for that, with the Chef accommodating our table with a improvised version of their most famous dessert, which was sold out by the time we ordered. Management did everything they could to make up for the shortfalls, and it is otherwise a lovely spot.
Excellent food. White bean apple cider soup and Whatchamacalit dessert will be the new standard for other places we at at to beat. A little pricey, but the food quality, preparation, and display reflected it. Great special occasion romantic date place to go!
First time at c.1880. Food was awesome, great menu. Only real negative, but a significant one.........the wait time between courses was alarmingly long........and the place wasn't that crowded.
My wife and I decided to dine at C 1880 after not having been there for a number of years. We found the food to be very good and were pleasantly surprised at the depth of the wine list. My wife had the lamb and I had the trout and both meals were very good. Each meal was prepared superbly and we enjoyed them very much. We found a nice bottle of Soave wine on the wine list that complemented the meals very nicely. Our server was very attentive and was always available whenever we needed her. All in all it was a very nice experience and we will return in the future.
c1880. is a half way point to meet our friends and this was our first time trying this restaurant. We tried the tasting menu which had nice options. We had the wine pairings with each course, also. The food was good. The chef's signature chestnut soup was outstanding. I especially liked the trout and my husband really enjoyed the carnitas and lamb meal. As a whole our group would not do the wine pairings next time. My husband tried their cocktails and said they were good. Our waitress was perfect, her great sense of humor fit in well with our group.
Had a great meal at c1880. Had a friend visiting from Chicago and she was impressed. Had the Monkfish which was a really good piece of fish well prepared. Also had the Lamb which was also great. Very good food overall. Would recommend.
We were celebrating a special occasion and treated ourselves to a fantastically delicious and beautiful dinner at C. 1880. Every time we come here, we wonder why we don't do it more often!
Really exceptional experience overall. We were impressed with the appetizers and wine selection. We both had scallops, which were some of the best we’ve ever had! Loved the decor and ambience. It felt like a beautiful space that someone really cares about and is proud of. The only (tiny) negative I’d say was the random table, space heater and service hutch in the area just outside the restroom. If at all possible, I’d put a screen in front of these, as they really take away from the otherwise beautiful restaurant. We will return, and we will heartily recommend to our friends! It’s great to find a truly upscale yet laid back restaurant in Milwaukee that “gets it” - from service to ingredient quality to lighting and music selection. Well done, c1880!!
The food and service was exceptional, as you would expect. It is the little things that make this a great restaurant. Such as heated cream for your coffee versus cold cream in your hot coffee. A small canapé after dinner. This is what takes a good dining experience and makes it great.
Thomas, Joshua, Aaron and all the c1880 crew always do a great job. We had the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairings, which I HIGHLY recommend! A just perfect balance of flavors , meticulous, beautiful plating , and creative, perfect wine pairings.
By far , the best restaurant I’ve found in Milwaukee (amoung many good choices)— we go back whenever we visit — the service is so good, it’s become more like a reunion of friends
We enjoyed a delicious 5 course meal celebrating NYE 2018 with excellent service! Dining room is always a bit drafty and there was an extended delay between the fish and meat courses. Wine pairings were spot on and we left very satisfied with both service and quality of food!
Tried the chestnut veloute which was deliciously rich could have eaten that alone with the warm brioche roll I had. the veloute was served tableside which was nice, and was poured over a little pile of mushrooms, pate and duck. Never had veloute before, would definitely try again. Also ordered the Steak Tartare which we have never ordered before. The steak was melt in your mouth, it was well seasoned with a nice touch of the pickled egg yolk, it was served with salted rye bread. I do not like rye bread but my husband enjoyed it with the meat. My husband beat me to the punch and ordered had the braised short rib which was served with a variety of roasted vegetables and polenta cakes. The polenta cakes were surprising and initially I thought they were scallops, they were crunchy on the outside yet deliciously tender in the middle. The beef was melt in your mouth delicious. I ordered the trout which although very delicious after tasting the short rib was a bit of a let down. Josh helped us pick out a nice bottle of wine and Aaron our server was very attentive and made some good suggestions. I would definitely recommend c1880 for a date night or special occasion.

Pricey but worth it. Food was Great. We had the tasting menu, and everything was outstanding. The chestnut soup, Foi Gras, Goat, and Lamb dishes were particular standouts. One of the better meals I've had since moving to this city 18 years ago.
We were late for our reservation but I was calling several times to keep them up to date of my arrival. The person was ride over the phone and when we arrived at 8:30 , there was no one in the restaurant, so I did not know why if the restaurant was empty. We also ordered a specific bottle of wine and the server brought us the wrong bottle after he opened it. Milwaukee needs an upgrade

Dinner was amazing! My wife and I shared three appetizers which included the Chestnut Velote, Fois Gras abc Steak Tartar. They were each fantastic. For dinner I had the duck and she had the scallops. Again, both were delicious. We were too stuffed to have dessert aside for a wondering cup of coffee.
The setting was pleasant and so was the background jazz music.
Last, but certainly not least, was the service. Very friendly and attentive.
Looking forward to going back!

Very nice meal at c1880. Went on a week night so it was calm. Started with the Chicken Liver Mouse and Fois Gras. Both were excellent. Had the Lamb and a Fish Special for Dinner, again both great. Service was well paced. Overall great experience.
