STATE OF THE INDUSTRY
The State of the Industry dashboard leverages OpenTable’s global network of more than 60,000 restaurants and millions of diners to provide a high-level snapshot of dining demand compared to 2024. If using data from the dashboard, please cite OpenTable and link back to this site. We have updated our methodology as of June 2024 to show seated diners from online reservations only. All other changes are reflected in the methodology section below.

STATE OF THE INDUSTRY
The State of the Industry dashboard uses data from over 55,000 restaurants and millions of diners via OpenTable to provide a snapshot of dining demand compared to 2023. As of June 2024, our methodology now reflects only seated diners from online reservations. Please cite OpenTable and link back to this site if using the data.
The State of the Industry looks at year-over-year (YoY) change in seated diners from online reservations for all restaurants active on the OpenTable platform during the selected time period, comparing the same day of the same week in 2025 to the same day of the same week in 2024 (not the same date). For example, we’d compare Tuesday of week 1 in 2025 to Tuesday of week 1 in 2024 and include data from all restaurants active on OpenTable each day. The data is provided for regions or metros with 50+ restaurants on the OpenTable network. For the displayed datasets, percentages are rounded down. The methodology for the prior iteration of the dashboard (live from April 2023 – April 2024) reflected online, phone, and walk-in reservations, looking at same store restaurants (active OpenTable restaurants that were also on the platform the same time the prior year).
This graph measures the weekly change in seated diners from online reservations for 2025 vs. 2024. Hover over any given date to see how 2025 compares to the respective week in 2024. For example, in the US on the week ending on January 6, 2025, seated diners were up 25% compared to the respective week of the year in 2024.
This table measures the volume of seated diners from online reservations on a daily/monthly basis in 2025 vs. 2024. For example, in Los Angeles on January 4, 2025, seated diners were up 3% compared to 2024. In the monthly view, data for the current month shows the YoY change in seated diners for the month-to-date. For example, if the date is January 10, 2025, the data compares January 1 – 10, 2025 to the same range in 2024.
