Byrd and Baldwin Bros. Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
We went before a play and it was my wife's birthday celebration. We valet parked. Our server Aaron was great and the staff was attentive. The food was great. The restaurant filled by the time we left. The manager brought a memento by and delivered a birthday dessert. We went downstairs to the bar after dinner and it was busy. The patrons in the restaurant and the bar were a diverse bunch. The staff seemed to be enjoying their work. The meal was pricey but not crazy. We felt well cared for and will go back.
I brought my girlfriend out for her birthday. The food exceeded all expectations. They have a large menu to chose from and many specials not listed on the menu as well. Our waiter was exceptional, and the atmosphere was wonderful. Everything was fantastic. Definitely recommend for any special occasion.
I'd read a lot of reviews about this place and I'm glad I decided to go. Took my husband for our anniversary as his gift and we had a great time. When we arrived, we had a Happy Anniversary note signed by the staff on our table. The waiter was attentive and not intrusive. He explained the menu very well. I ordered the Caesar salad and the Filet Mignon with Colossal Crab on top. My husband had the Porterhouse and a side of garlic mashed potatoes. Every single item was delicious. We even got a nice chocolate cake as a complimentary dessert. It was a great experience and I will be sure to recommend and return.
This was a special date night for us, as we both just recently returned from Afghanistan and it was a great evening. The wine list is massive and amazing. The servers are all professional and attentive. The food is delicious. The ambience is perfect for talking and hopefully starting something special, well it’s been seven months but that was overseas so we will see. Either way, great place in Norfolk for a romantic evening, business dinner or just catching up with friends.
My fiance and I had the best experience, I took her here for her birthday and she was so excited and impressed with the vallet, the dining and most important the customer service. This experience was amazing and I'm taking her back for another night out. Ive told everyone I know about this upscale place. I felt very important being there with my fiance'.
Everything that we had to eat was absolutely delicious. I had the grass fed steak which was a special item, and it was by far the best steak I've had to date. I also had the key lime pie, which was very delicious and rich, I would say it was also the best I've had to date. My only real irritation with this restaurant is that they "don't do substitutions". If you want something besides the sides that come with your meal, it's an extra charge.
One of the most phenomenal meals we have ever had. Emmanuel our server was excellent, he suggested a wine to go with our meal that was perfect. We agreed this is by far the best meal and service we have ever experienced. My father said “we are from NY and we know restaurants and this is on a completely higher level than anywhere we have been or heard of”.
I want to like this restaurant because I know that there must be something outstanding about it, based on other reviews, but my our experience was not so good.
Nobody came to out table for over 10 minutes after we were seated. The waiter, Alex, was awesome by the way. We don't fault him for not coming by sooner. But I did have to ask for service.
Beef tartar was outstanding, but that was the only notable dish. We ordered 3 courses and were not impressed.
It was our wedding anniversary night and neither the food nor the restaurant made it special or worth the almost $200 that I spent.
I have been to this restaurant several times for birthdays and anniversaries. Always top notch from the food to the service and the ambience. One of my favorite steak houses. It was my best friends birthday and her first time there. She loved it. Thank you Byrd and Baldwin for a wonderful evening
Always a pleasure. I can’t think there is another establishment in Norfolk that provides this level of quality service. We usually dine here three or four times a year, whenever we make the ninety minute drive to Chrysler Hall for a performance. Definitely one of the very best Hampton Roads has to offer.
Went for my husband's birthday this week. Delicious appetizers, strong but delicious Moscow Mule, both of our steaks were cooked to perfection, and the Brie mac & cheese was AMAZING!! creme brûlée to finish out the meal was delicious!! I highly recommend for a special occasion (although everyone else was there for either a regular weeknight meal or dinner with colleagues) so it works any day of the week!
Attended with another couple for a get together. Great food and even better service. This is on the upper end of the cost, but well worth it for any special occasion or when looking for a first class restaurant. Do not be put off by the title of "Steakhouse." While there are many excellent beef dishes, there are also plenty of other offerings including vegetarian. Clearly one of the top five restaurants in Norfolk!
My husband and I were celebrating his birthday and our wedding anniversary. I had included that information while making the reservation, so the server did congratulate us and the staff had signed a card for us, which was super sweet. Our server was efficient and polite. The food was truly delicious, and needed no additional seasoning, which is rare. I appreciated the complimentary sriracha tuna amuse bouche, but it was probably my least favorite part of the meal. This restaurant is definitely very pricey, but for those once a year special occasion meals, i would recommend coming her as they do a great job.
Very disappointed. Byrd and Baldwin Brothers has been my go-to place in Norfolk for excellent steak. Saturday evening, I had the 8-ounce filet. It was surprisingly tough. All else was fine, but the steak let me down big time.
Elegant old style service - so often missing in high end restaurants. The decor is classic and dark. The wait staff are well trained, from the hot towels through to the crumb cleaner, it’s a pleasant relief in dining experiences to be treated well while dining.
The steaks are fantastic!
Drinks could be colder and were a little lackluster. Wine service was exceptional. Service was a bit rushed - could delay between courses a bit for digestion and conversation.
The sides were very salty. We had garlic spinach and steamed broccoli. Lemon hollandaise was exquisite- creamy, bright, warm. Mmmm
A definite repeat for us. Valet parking makes it easy. But the six dollar fee seems pedantic to park when you’re dropping $500+ on a dinner.
You walk into this beautiful building and immediately greeted warmly by the hostess. She took us to our table and was very friendly. Ladi our server was menu knowledgeable and on the spot every step of the way. The food was amazing, the steaks were prepared to perfection. The presentation of the food was outstanding. The sides were definitely large enough for 2 or more. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Was very disappointed. Bar downstairs was far better in service than the restaurant. Our waiter was not attentive, service slow, and food not anything notable. My filet mignon was ordered rare since pittsburgh blue was not recommended since chef could "over-cook with the char". Well, my rare steak was not rare so apparently the chef cannot cook a steak . Will NOT be returning.
