The waiter was not the best, we waited 5 minutes for him to come and say hi and give us water even though only 4 tables were occupied. We had to ask what the specials were. Maybe he was having an off night but if it had been our first time there it would have turned us off to coming back even though the food is great.
The food was excellent. Only negative was the sides came out after I finished my entree. Seemed to be server error, and I took this as a one off error. Food was so good it didn't matter to me about the mix up. We enjoyed our dinners and apps. Very happy overall
Laura was great in personality and service. The duck was well seasoned, the grav lax on smashed avacado as starter was a special treat. My wife enjoyed the pumpkin raviolis with starter salad. Cocktails were prepared by a knowing hand. We recommend the Saturday evening non-crowd for great service and quietude; weekdays might change the vibe to a high end business crowd with noise and greater service demands.
We were surprised that the restaurant was only a quarter full on a Friday night. But that just meant a quieter atmosphere.
Lobster poutine, whole fish and banana cake were all hits. Jerk ribs and scallops a miss. Scallops perfect but ribs had no jerk spice and portion (three tiny half ribs) offered only a taste and was not nearly enough. It looked like they forgot a portion on the plate.
Service was solid. Would have appreciated a second offering of bread.
Courses were paced properly. We will return.
We hadn't planned on going to Bymark. We had reservations elsewhere but changed our minds due to the rainy weather. What a great decision. The food was awesome. We had the grilled calamari & octopus and some oysters to start and they were great and our mains were just as great - pickerel and halibut. I know we are coming for dinner and to check out the bar area.
My friend took me here to celebrate my retirement back in April and I returned the favour for her birthday lunch this week. The food was awesome. She had the brisket sandwich special and I had the halibut. Our server was polite and attentive without overdoing it. I would highly recommend Bymark. I also liked the wine so much I purchased a bottle at the LCBO.
Although the outside ambiance was very noisy, the food was delicious (especially the shrimp tacos) and the steak was perfect. The right amount of juice and also very tender. Our server Angela was incredible at accomodating both my mom and I's gluten allergies as well, so very special thanks to her.
Burger was blah! I've had burgers all over North American and this was the worst. Might as well book a room at the ER after eating the fries and onion rings. No onion in onion rings like eating greasy batter. On a positive note sever was great. Receptionist needs a new job or take a course in hospitality.
Dinner was spectacular and the staff were exceptional and very accommodating. We were not aware that we had to reserve Summerlicious much earlier just thought everyone got that menu. They allowed us to have that many anyway. Three of four of us ordered off the regular menu anyway but the Summerlicious menu was great.
We went to Bymark for our anniversary because we had met Mark at a cooking demonstration and had seen him on Top Chef, and it seemed like he knew what he was doing. The food was great, not in our budget as a regular spot but I did not think it was unreasonable for the quality of the food. I have been to other celebrity chef restaurants and paid WAY more and left feeling disappointed and quite frankly ripped off, but this was not the case at all for Bymark. I will return or perhaps try another of his restaurants. I strongly recommend this restaurant.
