Byblos - Toronto Ratings and Reviews
Overall had a fantastic dinner experience. Came here with 5 work colleagues and everyone left extremely satisfied. Food was amazing, service was great, and all of us commented positive things about the décor and overall ambience. Would recommend to just about everyone.
Some dishes where really good others ok. Little too expensive, $350+ only for food not including drink/wine for three people. Not kids friendly (service and no kids food options). I expected better service from our server. She was a little on the dry side. Her answers where short and did not seem in a very good mood. I was expecting more middle Eastern taste, however it was a lot of fusion food, which some might enjoy. Good to try once.
Fabulous meal, although the Brussels sprouts were a tad undercooked for our liking. Expensive wine by the glass when you don’t want to share a bottle pre theatre but we did get to try it first. Service outstanding and quick. Second time here and we will be back. Went with our server Rebecca’s recommendations and we weren’t disappointed (the Brussels were our choice).
Excellent service and delicious food.
The attention of Ilias G was extraordinary, his recommendations, explaining perfectly the menu and each dish, his attention and service, it is very important to have people like him.
Highly recommended to return
Great food and service. Really attentive waiter who made excellent suggestions and answered any questions we had. Not overly noisy st all - lovely ambiance. Drinks are a little pricey but are very good. Very, very good flavours and delicious food. Sharing plates are well sized and we left stuffed.
I've come to Byblos a couple times now and it's grown as one of my absolute favourites in Toronto. With my reservation made well in advance and reservation preferences included I was not accommodated of any and did not receive any confirmation call for my reservation. I made a call to confirm my reservation and was reiterated with my special notes (girlfriend birthday/corner booth upstairs preferred). Upon arrival I find my requests were completely disregarded and I was seated in a location no where close to my preference. I asked to move and was seated in a very small booth location. No acknowledgment of my girlfriends birthday was presented and the server did not greet it at all. This was one of my worst experiences at Byblos for such a special occasion.
Outstanding food and service. Unique combinations of flavors and presentation. We enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant; in many ways, the unique character of the food, the environment, and the smart, knowledgeable and personable service felt much like the unique havens of New York City, making this a very special dining experience for Toronto, one not to be missed.
I left it very last-minute in reserving a table for a birthday celebration. It was very difficult to find a spot to accommodate a party of 6 at the more popular restaurants in town. Fortunately, a table for 6 at Byblos came up. I've only heard good things about this restaurant so I thought this would be a great opportunity to try it out. First of all, the interior design was on point - modern with a rustic charm. The service was good. It got a bit loud at times making conversations a little more difficult, but again, it was a full house on a Friday night, what more could we have expected.
The food exceeded my expectations. I personally really like Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food, and Byblos did not disappoint. We started off with the Sabzi Qatayef (braised oxtail) and the house labneh dip. Both were small but tasty, just wished there was a bit more. Then we had the black truffle pide, which was also small but absolutely delicious. For mains we had the Middle Eastern Fried Chicken, BC mussels, black cod, Roasted Lamb Shoulder for Two, Spanish octopus, triple-fried fries, Crispy Confit Duck rice, and Sweet Jeweled rice. Everything tasted great, but what got me was the sweet jeweled rice. It definitely stood out from the rest of the dishes, and is highly recommended for anyone who is visiting for the first time.
We had the Pavlova, pistachio ice cream/popsicle and the chocolate mousse for dessert. The chocolate mousse was absolutely delicious!
It was definitely on the pricey end for the amount of food served. We ordered almost half the menu to feed a group of 6. The bill was definitely not cheap. I would recommend this place for those who are looking for a place to celebrate a special event. Would I come on a normal weekday dinner, probably not. But would I come for a birthday celebration, a definite yes.
This dining experience was definitely a positive one, and it is likely that we will return for another meal in the near future.
Superb, outstanding food and service. I don't say that about many restaurants. We are pescatarians, but there was still lots for us to eat. Every mouthful was an exciting new experience (sometimes we can be a bit jaded!). The only criticism is that it was way too noisy for conversation. Put some baffles on the walls to absorb some of the noise, please.
Decor very on trend. Walking down into the unassuming restaurant with high expectations and the visuals delivered. Nice touch being able to see the finishers do the final plate up.
Definitely have the Labneh to start!
We had the Black cod wrapped in seaweed which was a tasty combo and just the perfect mix of textures although a little too buttery, the Sweet Jeweled rice was deliciously flavoursome, and we also had the dumplings that unfortunately were overcompensated with butter for the lack of flavour.
Total came to $170 for 2 (+ tip) with a bottle of red. Might go back for another try for the friendly perfectly time service and the rice.
