By The Docks
We arrived at our scheduled time; was seated RIGHT away; server was at out table before we could even sit down; he took our drink orders and explained what was ordered through him; we checked out the buffet (AND IT WAS SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL)! Everything was good (just a little cold by the time you got back to your seat)...I WILL BE BACK!!!
The food and service was absolutely outstanding. Unfortunately, there was a table of about ten folks next to us that could be heard through the entire lower level (and probably upstairs!). We had to almost scream to hear each other. But as usual, the crabcake is the best and I highly recommend the hot open-faced roast beef.
Our food was fantastic! Our waitress Samantha was super friendly and very nice but I feel that our dinner took way too long. We had 5:30 reservations and didn’t leave till 7:30! It was three kids and three adults. They automatically charged us gratuity for that size party which was fine but it was difficult to split the check properly when we said how much to split it, then it added the gratuity again on that.
We have been to By The Docks many times. We love the food, and the service is usually wonderful. However, this last visit, our waitress left a lot to be desired. She never introduced herself, did not make eye contact at all when taking our orders, only refilled drinks when we asked (normally the waitresses take notice on their own) and only said thank you when handing us the bill which I assumed was because she knew it was tip time. We had the crab cake special which is a wonderful bargain at By The Docks on Tuesdays. Our meal was delicious (as always!). With the special, you get creme brulee for dessert. When she saw we were ready for dessert, she brought out the creme brulees but never asked the two people at the table who weren't having the special if they would like some dessert. Very disconcerting. As I mentioned, we dine there quite often and this was the first time we've ever encountered someone like this. We love the food, so we will go back. I told the young lady at the front desk about our experience, and she said she would pass the comments along to management. Guess we'll see what happens on our next visit.
My family met to celebrate my sister's birthday for dinner we have been before and dinner was fantastic very tasty and we all received our food in a timely fashion our server was great and very attentive we really appreciate good service and made sure we extended our appreciation. We will be back again for sure. Thank you and see you soon.
The waitress was not up to par . Food was delivered cold, 2 drinks were spilled. We seemed to be the last ones served. Parties of 6 & more came in after us, received their flu way before our party of 3. A noticeable difference!
This is our 3rd year going to brunch here and I love it as well as my mom oh and my daughter the picky eater.
We throughly enjoyed ourselves ..It was extremely crowded it was Mother's Day so we expected to be rushed, not the case. Our waiter was great, the food was amazing. We will be back
Food was very good and the server was attentive to our group. It was very loud and we had to almost yell to the other members of our party.
Waitress was nice and food was great! However, it took a very long time for our food to come to the table. Waited an hour and still did not have entrees. Took long for appetizers as well.
Crab cakes were fantastic! Service excellent. Definitely recommend.
The food and service are consistently amazing. Thanks to John and his wonderful staff.
Everything is good, and it is still the best crab cake in Maryland.
Buffet was excellent! Food was hot, fresh and had a good variety. I have been here several times and this restaurant never disappoints. Service was excellent as well.
Unfortunately after years and years of coming here I will not be returning.
Last two times their crab cakes are full of filler when there never used to be any at all.
Had a wonderful dinner and met some fun people
Great place for date nite. We love the steak and chop day
I’m not sure why everyone raves about how great the crab cakes are here. They had little flavor and a ton of filler. Very disappointing!
Hands down the BEST crab cakes on the planet.
Wait staff is always pleasant and always gets your order right.
Also, parking is a breeze.
By the Docks has a well deserved reputation for their seafood. If you are visiting for the first time, you must try their crab cakes. They are one of the best Maryland crab cakes out there!
Easter brunch disdapointing, crab legs EXCELLENT drssert excellent. Brrakfast food, bacon sausAge eggs, cold dried up. Ham pre carved on platter dry, fish tasted strong . Oysters fresh. It WAS over booked noisy...ANd they played music on top of congested croud. Service was excellent. Will go back for dinner but no more brunches. Cafeteria FOOD quality. They raised their price which I wouldn't have minded but not for poor quality. Have been to brunches before and they were excellent. .paid $220 and would have enjoyed a diner 5 times for same food . Go for the dinner specials.!!!
My friend and I had heard wonderful things about your restaurant. We decided our monthly lunch would be at your establishment for the first time. The food was great, service by our waiter was horrible! Our waiter spoke very little to us. He bought us drinks and rolls. We didnt see him again until the meal came. Then he never stopped by during the entire meal to see how things were going. We were there over an hour and we had to go looking for him when it was time to pay the check. I mentioned to the waiter when he gave us the check, that his service was poor because he never stopped by to see if we needed anything. It was not only our table, the table behind us had the same problem. They had to borrow ketsup from our table because the waiter never came back!!! On our way out, I mentioned the poor service to the manager. He thanked us but also said “hopefully next time you wont have him”. That was the wrong answer! The manager should have said “thank you for letting me know. I’ll make sure to mention to the waiter and use as a training tool”. The bad part is the food was excellent but the poor service is going to ruin your establishment. When it was time to pay, not only my friend but two other folks had to go to find him and then pay. He never returned to the table!! For the first time ever, I did not leave a tip but I did write the following note on the receipt “you ever stopped by the table after you dropped the food off to see if we were ok or needed anything else. Do better!” I pay for good service! I’ve heard such wonder things about your restaurant and was sooo looking forward to it, what a disappointment!
We're always very pleased with this place. Everyone is pleasant and friendly. The service is always good. Hope to visit again soon.
The waitress was exceptional. The noise level was way too loud. The food was so so.
Tasete was great service was average But no complaints
Service was fantastic. Food as always, delicious.
Delicious as always and our server was very attentive to our needs!! Great job!!
I attended this restaurant on date required, but they failed to let open table know that I had attended. Even though I was there I received no credit for attending The Docks in Middle River. The food was good and my daughter and I had a very nice dinner.
We were seated on time however, our table was put near an area that was very busy with staff at the bar and wasn’t what we requested. The crab soup which was described as delicious was a disappointment and tasted like clam chowder. We expected more for the way it presented itself online.
By the Docks has been our favorite local restaurant for the past three years. We have watched it grow tremendously over the course of time, and most weekend evenings are heavily booked, and for good reason. The quality of the food, the attentiveness of the servers and the comfortable atmosphere remain the same, even as they grow.
My family was in from Florida and wanted some good seafood so I brought them to By the Docks I couldn't have ask for a better experience for them. Everything was just wonderful thank you all so much.
Only my second visit ....... but wow the food is excellent the staff is very attentive and friendly overall a wonderful dining experience , quickly becoming a family favorite
Server was great. Food was amazing. Large portions, food was fresh and delicious! I recommend the Crabby Nachos appetizer!!
Food was fantastic except for salads you got twice the dressing and hardly no salad. Waitress brought wrong side dishes and forgot appetizers
Food was very good, but prices were a bit high. Waitress never offered refills on drinks and had to be asked 3 times to bring water. For the prices, I expected a nicer restaurant. Tables were too close together.
This was my first time at the restaurant. My husband and I were celebrating our 23rd wedding anniversary. The food was okay. 2 out 4 napkins had long hair on them. We arrived at 8pm and a side that I ordered (creamed spinach) was out. I guess they decided not to cook anymore. It was okay, not great. I hope if I come back to the restaurant again I will have a better experience.
When my wife and I showed up for our reservation, the parking lot was packed, which tends to be a good sign. We had to wait briefly before being seated since the restaurant was so busy, but otherwise service was stellar. I got the steak and crabcakes (which I would highly recommend, very little filler and lots of jumbo lump backfin crabmeat!). Prices were quite reasonable, and I would definitely do this restaurant again.
By the Docks has always been one of my favorite places to visit because I'm a big fan of their crab cakes and seafood in general. Management has changed over the years, and I can only accredit that to my most recent disappointing experience. I made reservations on Open Table well in advance of my visit, and my party arrived about 30 minutes early. We were greeted at their new hostess section, which takes up quite a bit of room in their entrance. This doesn't make it easy for guests to get to and from the entrance and the dining area when people are there waiting. When asked if we minded being seated upstairs, we declined because my parents would prefer to not climb steps. The manager then seated us in a cramped corner of the bar area, having passed several available tables in the main dining room. It's unclear if this was intentional because they were not happy with our decision to not be seated upstairs. The bar area was pretty full of customers, and the staff (the bartender also waiting on the tables in the bar) was limited. It took longer than it should have to get our drinks (water and soda) because the waiter was busy tending the bar, and it was only when my father spoke to the manager that we finally received our drink order. The customers next to us who were seated after us received their appetizers before we received our salads. When we asked the waiter about this, he stated that the kitchen was backed up and that appetizers come out before entrees, not explaining why there was a delay in receiving our salads. I would have been more understanding if the waiter had informed us of the kitchen situation prior to us asking. The food, as always, was good despite several smaller noticeable portions sizes. Unfortunately, just having good food will most likely not keep return customers, a good overall experience will. I think the manager and waiter could have communicated with us a little better so that we felt more like valued customers.
We love your brunch! We brought friends from New Jersey and they loved it too!!
We had a wonderful time. The food was great and the waiter was awesome.
