BXL East Ratings and Reviews
My party arrived on time and it seemed like a nice place. We were brought to our reserved table for 6ppl but we weren't given any menus. It took a while to get the menu and after looking around other customers were having the same problem. There was only one waitress and the bartender had to act as waiter for the table next to us. When we finally got menus and our order taken, the waitress forgot to put in my guests order. It took a long time to get her food which was just a cheeseburger. She finally got it and it was raw and she wanted it well done. They took it back and gave her another and apologized and took it off the bill but it was ruined the mood. They need additional waitress service at lunchtime!
We like BXL, since we lived in Belgium and can appreciate their national dishes. I think the other people in our group were fine with their choices, but my mussels were extremely small, like size kidney bean or smaller. You would never get them that small in Belgium. I asked the waitress before I ordered and she said, yes they will be big! But they were not at all.
That's all, bitterballen and fries were really good.
We have lived in Belgium plus we are Dutch so we can compare. It came close, esp. the bitterballen are a family favorite, BXL makes a good quality one. The mussels were ok, not as big as the Belgiums require them, it was almost as if 2 sizes, medium and very small, were mixed together. Entrecote and french fries very good, Belgium endive with cheese sauce very good. The service was OK, they took away the plates far too quick. At least 3 times we had to stop them taking plates off the table before we were even finished! Overall we will return for sure, and recommend to others.
Enjoyed the food and the ambiance, mussels were good, the chocolate mousse was gigantic and well made. We sat in a corner where I had trouble reading the menu because it was so dark. The place could do with a bit more lighting to my taste. Overall a worthwhile culinary experience though.
Rude waitress. I've had her multiple times and every time she has been the same, just rude. The food is good and the ambiance is good so the rude waitress is disappointing because I will think twice before returning again as long as she is there. She actually asked if we were tourists to 'explain the tipping policy', which we were not. Easily confused I guess because my in laws were visiting from outside the US but still. I get that Europeans don't tip like in the US but the approach, and service throughout the evening, was rude, making that an even more rude ending. Last time I had this waitress, I thought that it might have been my personal impression and gave the place a second try. Sure enough, my in-laws and I all thought she was rude and this was without my sharing any prior experience. Disappointing.
The food was good: I had the mussels mariniere which were excellent. I expected the fries to be more like frites - they were heavier, and not hot when they arrived.
I was there with a friend I hadn't seen for a while: the noise level was too high for an intimate conversation. We had to shout.
I have been to and enjoyed the BXL in midtown, and thought this would be a nice treat in the middle of a long day. The service was excellent. However, the food was disappointing. I ordered the foire gras special appetizer and the mussels. The appetizer was over cooked as were the very small mussels. Maybe they focus more on dinner than lunch, but I wouldn't go back.
I booked the table at BXL East for our group of five after reading good interviews on Yelp and I was very happy with my choice. All the people in our group were satisfied with the dishes they ordered. I ordered muscles and liked them very much. Beer lovers in our group were impressed with the beer list and the excellency of beer. We will visit this play again and recommend it to our friends
