Small, charming bistro. However, the service was slow, the coffee was lukewarm and my eggs florentine had onions in them even though I told the waiter that I couldn't eat onions. My husband was done eating his brunch before my replacement meal was served.
Delicious mussels! Never disappointed here. We've been here many times. Friendly, attentive staff. Fun atmoshere.
Food is fine. Not amazing. Not poor. Just fine. Great fries.. reasonable muscles... burger was without complaints... steak was a bit thin, but flavorful. Portions were adequate-plus.
Service was meh. Seemed the waiter/bar-tender were annoyed we were there. Not terribly attentive. Its the size, decor and vibe of a neighborhood bar but I guess since its in the Theater District it provides the same "I'll never see you again" type service. Always adequate enough so that you don't complain, but never so hospitable so as you would want to come back.
Prices are what they are. Its Times Sq. you wont find deals here, but being able to cross the street to the theater makes up for it. They have to pay rent, so you do too.
A shame, really. A couple of touches on the food and a couple of enhancements on the service/attitude and this can be a gem in an area that can use a bit more personality.
Forgot to add - the house beer, BXL Cuvee... great choice!
A great place to grab dinner before a Broadway show.
What you'd expect from a bar/cafe with a terrific staff and friendly service. Drinks were great, food was good. We had the mussels and salmon and the charcuterie and cheese plate to start. Bar area got loud but that was OK. All-in all, a good meal and right next door to Town Hall.
We really enjoyed the food as usual but this time one of the waiters had a really short fuse ans was very rude without any reason!
Only if they don’t mind the extreme loudness! Food is great. Mussels with fritters are outstanding!
Always busy to make the service a little inconsistent but, overall, this is one of our rotations in the city.
Noisy, high energy pub. Extensive list of draft and bottled beers and ales. Good bar food with continental flair. Pleasant service. We will go again.
Good for drinks/beer but I was not impressed by the food. Shrimp croquettes were mushy and fishy. The endive salad was nothing special and smothered in dressing. And the mussels were gritty and dried out. Very disappointing. I would go back only to drink at the bar.
I’ve stopped at the BXL for a quick dinner before the concert at the Town Hall - be sure to make a reservation, the restaurant was packed and the bar was overpacked! Service was incredibly quick, very genial, and attentive - a rare commodity in the popular NYC place. I’ve started with a half a dozen of oysters - small but fresh and briny, served with balsamic mignonette and cocktail sauces. Continued with moules farcies and fries - mussels were sauteed with veggies and then topped with bread crumbs and quickly roasted (if you like to mop the sauce, this is not a dish for you), a huge portion of perfect fries was served with mayonnaise and ketchup. Decided to go for a Liege style waffle for dessert - frankly, did not see a difference between the regular Belgian waffle and this iteration. Nevertheless, this concoction of a freshly made waffle, sugar powder, fruit, and ice cream was lovely. Drinks: a Lindeman Kriek - a fabulous sour cherry beer was a great accompaniment to the shellfish; coffee - strong and aromatic. Ambiance - it feels like a bistro: tables are close together, you can hear conversations on all sides, and, as the place is small, the din can be deafening. Still loved the vibe!
Nice belgium menu, with good choice of belgianbeers
Very busy on a Thursday evening. I only got a table because I had a reservation, and the bar was packed as well. Just got a light meal before a show, but the food was good and they had an impressive beer list. It was a nice place for a small meal and drink.
A nice place to grab a pre-theatre bite. The place is nice & cozy and the staff is extremely friendly.
Great food and beer. Nice place to catch up with friends and enjoy yourself!
Ok for casual meal, relaxed atmosphere. It had a off-smell like the morning after a big beer night. Service was sluggish even though it wasn't full. I liked the W22 BXL restaurant a lot better. Maybe we caught an off-day, I'd try it once more .
The noise level was extremely high. The crowd at the bar made it hard to maneuver into the restaurant. The food was very good, beer selection was tremendous. Would love to eat there when it was quieter.
Solid straightforward tavern dining. Excellent service. Tasty food.
Noisiest restaurant I’ve ever been to.
Service was great, food was delicious
Delicious food. Conveniently located in theater district. Excellent service .
Great food! Excellent service. Both breakfast and lunch options for Brunch. Great drinks - yummy Bloody Mary's and great craft beers. Restaurant doesn't look like much from outside but inside is really neat. Have authentic jukebox. Super great for lunch and brunch. I real local find for busy Times Square where everything feels so commercialized. Our waiter was so attentive, even to our kids. Thumbs up.
Food and service were fantastic and will ensure a return visit when in the theatre district.
We were at a table in the center row, however and can tell you the entire life stories of the women next to us and still smell the gentleman’s heavily applied cologne at the table on the other side of us. Will request a window seat next time!
Love BXL's food, service and ambience, every time we've been there!
Made a reservation online, was given the table near the kitchen and bathroom. Could see into the bathroom which killed the dinner. Food was good.
I’ve been here for dinner many years ago and remember it being a European gem in Times Sq. This time, I was here for breakfast with a friend and turns out the spot is more of a bar than a restaurant - we could still smell the bleach and cleaning products that were used to clean the restaurant from the night before. Food was ok. You could tell from decor and bar setup that it’s a great place for coming to try various Belgian and European beers...
A real find in the theater district. Will be back both for the food and the convenience of being smack in the middle of the theater district.
Great little place with friendly service. The Belgian menu is solid and tasty. The bar scene is especially laid back for a Times Square place. This feels like a local gem plopped down amidst the tourist hordes. It’s going on my list for pre-theatre quick meals and drinks after a show.
Great Belgian food and great Belgian beers. If you are a Belgian beer lover this is the place to go.
So quaint and even though it was crowded we never felt overwhelmed. So comfortable with very good food and friendly service.
The moules and steak frites were great. Friendly staff. The bar gets very crowded
I had no idea this place was so noisy! We went for a private birthday celebration, just my wife and I, because she loves mussels and beer. The place was packed, and it was about impossible to hold a decent conversation. We quickly aborted our plans for dinner, had an appetizer, and left.
A very energetic spot for an evening meal or snack with great beer and food.
Very typical Belgian bar where everyone can hang around the bar. Good place for afterwork drinks
This is a great alternative to finding a place in the theater district. Terrific beer menu (of course it's Belgian!), and a nice menu. Fast service. It is a lively atmosphere, which can be a little on the louder side as the dining room is essentially adjacent to the bar. As long as that is your expectation, you should have a terrific meal.
Great food and drinks. A little different selection of both compared with a lot of restaurants in the city while still not breaking the bank and having a fun bar atmosphere.
Bartender was rude
This is a cute little restaurant across the street from the Broadway play, Beautiful. The brunch menu was great and very reasonably priced. Service was attentive and pleasant. I enjoyed a pre-theatre brunch with my family and would go there again.
Just a comment that the space is very tight between tables.
The moment I entered, I realized that this restaurant was not for me because it was packed to the point of claustrophobia. You have to force your way through the crowded bar to get to the back where the hostess is. It is very tiny as well in the seating area. The food was pretty good though. I had carbonnade flamande which was delicious.
