Very accommodating place, attentive service. Very quick service. Good for casual, pre-theatre meal.
We are frequent diners at BXL Cafe and absolutely love it here. The food is great and the staff is wonderful!
This was a great find near Times Square. Great food, great staff, moderate prices. Would go back again!
Dining at BXL Cafe was such a delightful experience. When you walk in, you feel like you've been transported from NYC to Belgium. The dining room in the back feels so authentic and cozy. I had the mesclun salad with honey and goat cheese croutons, the salmon with mashed potatoes and vegetables, and the profiteroles for dessert. Everything was amazing. The portions were quite generous and the prices extremely reasonable. My server Arifa was absolutely wonderful - she made me feel right at home and ensured that every aspect of my dining experience was perfect. BXL Cafe is truly a gem in Times Square.
In effect, this is an after work pickup bar with a small restaurant attached. Lots of noise and lots of testosterone.
We invited a couple to join us at our favorite restaurant since we were going with them to see a musical that evening. We were given a table toward the back as requested. Service was very attentive and prompt. Our food was excellent. We all enjoyed the meal and they commented on the unique ambience.
Crowded and very noisy at 6:30. Service was good, food was OK at best
Clearly a lot of folks love it, bad fit for me.
Impeccable service and great food. Wait staff was very attentive to our party of 6. Mussels were excellent, as well as the pesto gnocchi.
Had brunch with a friend before a show on Sunday, food and service were great. Fun atmosphere. Very friendly staff.
We loved everything about BXL. The food that we ordered was wonderful and the Belgium Brews that we drank were amazing. We can't wait to go back for another dining and drinking adventure
We frequently eat here and really love this place. Prices are very very reasonable (lower than the Open Table overview indicates). If you go before the rush it’s very quiet but can get noisy when busy.
My daughter and I loved this restaurant. I’ve been a theater goer my whole life but I’ve never tried BXL. This will be my new favorite go to place. Excellent food!!!
Such a great evening. Delicious cocktails and Belgium beer selection. Very good burgers and delicious fries.
We love this restaurant. We were there this time for an early dinner after attending a Broadway matinee.
Disagree with the price range shown on the App. It’s considerably more reasonable!!!
The server was extremely cordial. He treated us very well and changed our order when we didn't know what we ordered. Great beverages on tap!
Had a quick dinner at the Cafe after a day at a trade show. My table was reserved for me which was good since the place was very busy at 6:15. I would of booked later if I knew it was so noisy. The sausage and vegetable mashed potatoes were great but not for the amount charged. Little over priced for basically bangers and mash. Would like to try the place again when it’s not so noisy. Staff was very pleasant.
The food was fantastic as was the service. I’ve never had Belgian food before and it was great..
Great little place and excellent value especially considering how close it is to Times Square. Outstanding food and service. We had the prize fixe lunch before a Broadway matinee show and it was fantastic!! Definitely get the mussels.
We are fans of this wonderful Cafe and have frequently eaten here over the years. Love the ambiance and food.
Cozy pub atmosphere, friendly staff, with a real European flavor, including an enormous range of Belgian beers. Very reasonably priced brunch dishes; the egg dishes were just right on a cold January day. Try the eggs Florentine. A great value.
Great ambience, food good, usual NY level of service (although the lady did forget about me when I asked for the check, and then disappeared, but they're a cheerful bunch), just a bit pricey for what it is. Glad we went, but probably couldn't afford to go twice on the same trip.
Great bistro with lots of character and lots of international patrons. Food was all exactly as it should have been: onion soup with melty cheese that had a bit of crispiness to the edges, a salad perfectly dressed with warm goat cheese and hangar steak with awesome frites! Impressive beer selection too. Only regret is that we didn't discover it sooner!
Extremely noisy
Decent food for lunch before the theatre although it can get extremely loud with the lunchtime crowd.
Best place to eat in midtown. Great food, reasonable prices, terrific staff and very authentic.
The noise level was very high. Conversation with my companion was difficult and we sat at a small table near each other. Other than that we had an enjoyable evening. Our waiter was accommodating, service good and the food was good.
This was a get together with family from out of state. The food was delicious, the server was attentive and we were very appreciative that we were not rushed to leave. And the cost was extremely reasonable for the quality and portions.
For NYC, this place is quaint. Food and service are always good. Only complaint is that with a party of 6 and a reservation, we were squished in the very back by the bathrooms and kitchen.
When I ordered a beer they brought the wrong one. They then brought the wrong drink to my wife, and put hers at another table. After tasting and realizing it’s the wrong drink, they just tried take ring her correct drink from the other table and pouring it in a new glass. Then on top of all that they charged me for an extra beer I didn’t order.
Long story short don’t go here
BXL is the best way to get down to business with three pots of yummy, steaming mussels before a show! My husband, my niece and I settled into the cozy table right across from the banquet seating the performers from Slava’s Snow Show on Sunday.
Fun! The wait staff introduced us and we took pictures with Slava, had the best dinner and drinks at BXL, and then crossed the street in time to grab our seats at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. Perfetto!
The service at BXL is always friendly and the vibe is lit!
Love this restaurant! It’s a conveniently located and very accommodating Belgium Pub style retreat with lots of delicious dishes, affordable prices, plentiful portions, great beer in tap, creative top shelf cocktails and smiles all around. I’ll be back! Thanks again and Happy New Year!
My favorite stop when venturing in to the city. So close to theaters and Times Square but a neighborhood gem untainted by the mobs of tourists just a block away. After years of sticking with the varieties of mussels, I ventured in to other parts of the menu! Had the hanger steak and it was awesome. The beer selection is also one of the reasons I keep coming back.
We reserved a table for meeting with our friends which have not seen many years. We ordered food and drinks and were asked to change our table after short time because staff expect some party with a lot of people. We agreed, but were surprised when staff asked us to leave a restaurant at all in 10 minits. Even we did not finish eating and drinking. And finally we got a check#1079 with Stella 50cl we have never drank. If your restaurant have a limit time for dinner we have to been aware before visiting. It was awful, terrible, we were upset.
Very expensive for mussels at 26 $ steak was tough. Very noisy for group dinner.
Came in to try the MOULES FRITES (mussels and french fries).
First I had a hankering for Onion soup. I tried the SOUPE À L’OIGNON GRATINÉE. Hit the spot!
We then shared the MARINIERE (mussels in white wine and shallot broth) which was plenty for the two of us. 2lbs I think the menu stated. The Mussels come in a pot with the fabulous broth. Outstanding bread provided (the crispy kind). We had some Belgian beer (try the Chimay). Holiday crowds - shoulder to shoulder. Thanks to Open Table our reservation was acknowledged and were seated in the back area. This was around 18:40 before a show next door at The Town Hall. Seriously, next door! Walked out of BXL and into Town Hall.
Plan on going back next week (another show to see at TH) for a repeat performance. Considering the crown and time of the year, our wait staff could not have been more professional. Well served and suggested the Chimay which was a bullseye!
nous vous reverrons bientôt
We had dinner on a night when the bar was overflowing which made it a bit noisy, but the staff was friendly and helpful as always. Dinner was delicious, perfect for a snowy winter night! A great find in the theater district!
Excellent food always. Our favorite place.
Generally an enjoyable experience with good, solid, hearty Belgian food. The service itself was very good (waiter, bus staff, etc.) except for the host who was rude and abrupt. He was snippy about us leaving so the next reserved party cold have our table - we were done, had been done for several minutes, we were just waiting for a check which his own staff had not yet brought to the table. So it was unclear why he was taking his frustrations out on us. Other than that, it was an enjoyable experience (and a good place to go before seeing a show at Town Hall).
Anniversary
If you can squeeze past the packed bar in the front, you can get a good meal here. Being in the Times Square area, it isn't easy to find "real" places that aren't chains or tourist rip-offs. However, BXL Cafe offers delicious food that's not too expensive which makes it a find! The back tables where they serve food is small but efficient - just don't go if you have a problem with noise because it gets really noisy! Since I'm in the area a lot, I'm so glad that BXL is there as a good choice for a pre-theater dinner, lunch or brunch!
Too too noisy but everything else fine: good food and service.
