friendly and attentive service; Mary is the best! great place to watch football
My friend and I went to lunch there and enjoyed ourselves. The food was very good.
Server was annoyed and not inviting at all.
Worst server I've ever had there. Must've been her bad day...
It seemed as if the restaurant was shorthanded with staff. There was no host at the host stand when we arrived. Thankfully the bartender was on top of it and very observant and attentive. She did an outstanding job managing the bar and restaurant, bringing us to our table, mixing the drinks, and managing the entirely full bar of people. I was very impressed with her.
Our waitress was very nice but was not attentive at all, we had to ask for menus, and hunt the staff down to get water refills, to go boxes and the check. In addition, they were out of one of the meals we ordered but the waitress didn't tell us until the other meals arrived. Finally the nachos we ordered had pork instead of chicken. When I told the staff that brought it out I had to prove to him that it was pork. He didn't believe me.
It's too bad I really liked the vibe when I walked in but the service was so poor I'd never go out of my way to find it again
Very nice atmosphere, attentive staff and quality food. It is an upscale pub, so the menu is what you would expect, but the food was good quality and well prepared. A bit pricey for lunch, but average when compared to other restaurants n midtown Manhattan.
Nice gastropub with a lot of wood accents. Our waitress, allison, was very friendly and efficient. I had broiled salmon with asparagus, wife had grilled trout with avocado salad. Both were good sized portions, very fresh and delicious and reasonably priced at $25 & $21. It was national french fries day so we added a side of fries for $5...very good shoestring fries...totally worth it! Excellent food and excellent service! Will definitely eat here again when back in city!
Food and service were really good.
Went for happy hour and it was great. Nice seating and good environment
This is a bar. The only seating for dinner was in the bar area. We had very good appetizers, but the music was blasting so loudly, we couldn't stay for the main course.
We had the chicken sandwich and the salmon entree. Both were very good and tasty. This was the first time we were ever asked how we wanted a salmon cooked (like it was a burger).
Nice spot and decent atmosphere. Nice place to go for drinks and a bite.
Music is blasted at ridiculous levels, despite fact that nobody there appears to even remotely enjoy the noise. Can't hear the people you are eating with. Service was atrociously slow, even though there were only a couple of tables in need of service at the time our party was eating.
Misplaced or out of touch Denver Broncos fans rejoice and unite with fans of the same!
the service is friendly, attentive, accommodating. the food is great.. we like the grilled cheese short ribs and the grilled tuna on salad, and the coconut shrimps
Made a reservation, received emails reminding me of the rsvp. Showed up at the restaurant to find the doors locked. Never again!
The service was very poor and the food was average. One guest in our party had a dietary restriction and the waitress was hardly able to assist. Our water was not refilled once during a nearly 2 hour meal. We sat for about 20 minutes waiting to order our meal.
The food was just okay and the music was way to loud for a Tuesday night. The place was practically empty and you couldn't have a conversation with the person you were with. Better bars in NYC!
my wife and i eat here on a saturday night and while we were quite surprised how empty it was that actually made a bit more enjoyable a nice surprise. the organic chicken which was my dish was cooked a bit too long but good. my wife had the fish tacos which she still raves about. overall it is a pretty nice restauraunt and we would def visit again.
Overall, very good. The restaurant was out of the wine we selected, but our server made a great recommendation for a different bottle. It was so great, we ordered 2! Food was very good- offered a great variety to satisfy everyone's palette. There was a great DJ playing top hits. Volume was at a decent level, so we could still chat with one another. Great booth and we were not rushed! Our sever even invited us back for a complimentary drinks. Already planning our return visit! Thank you!
Awful. It's a bar not a restaurant.
The food is fair, however, in busy midtown, it's a good place to just sit and have lunch.
I remember Butterfield9 that used to be in DC and it was more of a restaurant than bar so I thought this would be similar. Food was fine but this is more a bar scene than sit down dinner location.
We had a cozy booth in the dining room that was very comfortable. Our server was very pleasant but seemed a bit hurried. It wasn't an especially busy night so I'm not sure why she was so quick to leave. She would come to the table to take our order or ask how our meal was and immediately turn and walk away before we could follow up with a question or ask for another drink. My friend's dinner was not prepared as requested, which the server apologized for. My dinner was excellent. The price for beer and wine during happy hour was excellent and the wine was excellent for a house wine.
I had been to this place before for lunch and enjoyed myself so I decided to bring some guests there the other day. I had a reservation on line though when we arrived on-time for the reservation they had given are table away to someone else. Luckily, they had another and were able to seat us though the wait staff we had was not personable at all. She was a bit short with her descriptions and when ask a question seemed very bothered we would even ask. The food was good as I had remembered but the service was horrible.
Good food and easy service... Will come back again.
Nice venue, but slightly grumpy staff and 'ok' food.
I've been to Butterfield8 a few times before, and I have had good experiences each time. I met a friend for lunch and we both ordered the Salmon Salad. It was a little bland but not terrible. I've had better meals there in the past. The venue has a really stylish decor and relaxed atmosphere, and the service was good. I would go back and recommend to a friend.
Finding a nice restaurant in Midtown is tough as it's all either 'Irish' bars/pubs or over-priced-assuming-access-to-the-corporate-credit-card. Butterfield 8 is OK, but generally overpriced for what you get. It's fine for a corporate lunch, but not amazing. I'd probably go back there again, but it's nothing special. It's mainly a handy location for Midtown lunch. Other good options for corporate lunches, if you can get a reservation are 'Parker & Quinn' or 'The Bryant Park Grill' both on the expensive sides, but the ambiance is better.
We just came here for a quick bite and and a drink, Nice ambiance and cozy inside. Enjoyed our food and our server was very kind!
The menu sounds amazing, but the food was underwhelming. The burrata appetizer was stone cold, and both of us expected the tomato sauce and crostini to be warmed, the cheese to be melted...Room temperature would have even been better, but this was straight out of a refrigerator COLD. It was edible, but very disappointing. As well, the roasted chicken was advertised to have a mushroom sauce, which was nonexistent other than 6 slivers of button mushrooms around the plate. The chicken was dry, and very much needed the missing sauce. The chocolate chip cookie dessert was tasty, but the bottom of the mini skillet wasn't even fully covered with cookie dough before baked. It was half a dessert. The server was pleasant and attentive enough, but rather slow getting drinks while the happy hour promotion was still ongoing. Ultimately, for the prices, the food should have been way better. I would not recommend Butterfield 8.
Nice assortment on the menu. Waitress was attentive and helpful with both drink and menu selections. The asian wings and filet mignon sliders were tasty. Calamari was a bit chewy, but still good.
The service was prompt. Our waitress was so quiet, we hardly noticed her filling water glasses and removing plates, etc. The food was delicious as well. Great place for a quick lunch.
Good neighborhood bar with excellent, basic food. If you want an inexpensive option with the ability to dine quickly this place will work !
The food was pretty good, a decent selection. However the service was quite slow. Especially at lunchtime, I expect better attentiveness.
the food is always very good , no matter what i order.
My husband and I made a reservation for before a show and showed up at this restaurant at 5:20 on a Saturday night, but the restaurant was locked and completely dark despite stating on the door that it opened at 4:00. There was no sign on the door and nothing on the website, but it was Saturday night and there was no sign of life, so I think this restaurant may be out of business. I'm particularly bummed because we had a gift certificate that we get to just throw away now. :(
Almost a disappointment. Posh? No, Lounge? No. Gastropub? Not really. Good food? Yes. For full write-up go to www.celluloidclub.blogspot.com.
Butterfield 8 is a great mid-week lunch spot, accessible menu with something for everyone. good midtown spot for nicer happy hour drinks. VERY loud for lunch in the back room. good to set up a group happy hour for a team.
After being seated it took a good 5 mins before i received a menu, but they promptly brought me my beer and a glass of water.I ordered Hummus as an appetizer and fancied the grilled cheese, which has Gouda, Muenster, Tomato and Prosciutto on it. The Hummas with Pita was pretty large and too much for an appetizer for 1, but was tasty. Next,my Grilled Cheese, or my burnt Grilled Cheese;how does a restaurant burn Grilled Cheese? Even worse, how does a restaurant burn Grilled Cheese and then serve it? Needless to say, i took a couple of bites and informed the waitress. She offered me something else and provided a refund, but a 4yr can tell when Grilled Cheese is burnt so i don't understand how the Chef and server couldn't - it burnt black!
I went with 2 friends for dinner. The cocktail menu had some great choices and the drinks were well-made. Nice variety of apps and entrees, and everything was delicious. We had a nice little booth for our party of three, so it was cozy. Service was great, friendly and accommodating. Definitely not a spot to try to go with a large group for Saturday dinner, unless you've reserved the whole dining room or booked well in advance, becuase it only accommodates about about 40 people or so in the dining room. I definitely plan to return.
Don't trust opentable on this one....made a reservation at 7pm for 8pm on Sunday night and got to the restaurant and it was completely dark with the chairs on the tables. I recommend calling to confirm and make sure they're actually open before you make the effort to go there. Even their website says they're open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week...clearly not the case.
