So disappointed. Took my wife out to Alex’s place for our anniversary. Huge Chopped fan.
Food and service was below average. My wife sent her salmon back. Wait staff barely spoke English.
Expected so much more.
We went to Butter with high expectations - we're huge fans of Alex and took a look at the menu prior to making the reservation and were really excited by what we saw in terms of reviews online. We were far from disappointed - best meal we've had in quite some time and such a memorable experience. We each had one of the cocktails, split the gnocchi mac n cheese as an appetizer, and then I ordered the french onion short rib and my husband ordered the tobacco-smoked pork chop. We split a side of the green beans as well. SO MUCH FLAVOR in each dish. We finished our meal with the strawberry rhubarb tart and it was lovely. Our server, Chris, was fantastic - attentive without being overly intrusive. It was simply wonderful. We have already recommended it to friends and family and can only dream of returning in the future.
It took approximately 10-15 minutes for any server to approach me after being seated. Once I was approached the service was outstanding.
All the food was amazing. Service was outstanding and the entire place was extremely clean.
A great menu with some definite must-haves.
Can’t come here without having the Gnocchi Mac & Cheese.
The food was well prepared but the menu did not wow me. Service was excellent. Loved the music choices.
Food was amazing. Cocktails excellent. Not sure what was going on with our waiter he spent most of his time at the front check in flirting with the hostess and we kept having to flag down other servers. But the food, kitchen, bar, all definitely on point. Will repeat for sure.
Always good food and drinks, but service was a little slower than usual
Great space-wonderful food and drinks—slam dunk for a great time
We thought it was good but expected amazing. We put that we were celebrating my 50th birthday and my father in laws 88th, when we arrived I asked if they would tell the server and they said yes, but they did not. The bread is worth going again... it was incredible lol. The gnocchi Mac and cheese was the best we ever had! After that it was just good. The short rib was very good but I was surprised it was not soft and actually required a knife in order to cut through it. Also, while our server Jordan was fantastic, we explained that we had a nut allergy at the table and after finding out that she never knew about the birthdays, she brought a piece of cake with a candle but the cake contained walnuts.
Food wasn’t that bad but staffs and manager were not so attentive. I made reservation for 4 ppl and receptionist made me wait at the waiting area until everyone showed up. Price of dishes were pricy for what you get. I wasn’t happy with 20% of gratuity is added to my bill. Not sure why this restaurant is so popular....
As a professional chef I was a bit disappointed
Food was not replenished fast enough
And I didn’t appreciate the 20% gratuity being included
The service was adequate and I wish the staff was abit more cheerful . I mean it’s Mother’s Day
The food was very good
Especially the Hanger steak and pastry selection
I would probably come back
We went for the Sunday Brunch. A little skeptical because of the price and the fact it was a buffet style. Completely worth it. Some of the best food we have ever eaten.
The food was absolutely perfect. Cooked and paired well with all ingredients. The gnocchi Mac and cheese was the best I’ve ever eaten and the strip and short ribs were cooked to perfection. So delicious. Drinks were also delicious (Pimms prize and Bitter Sling). Highly recommend.
This is a beautiful restaurant with a cozy feel. The food was high quality with a knowledgeable waiter giving good guidance. The cocktails were really delicious with some creative concoctions. Who knew habanero simple syrup was a thing? And the Rye bourbon drink with smoke added was truly memorable. It’s a great choice before seeing a show.
The food was absolutely amazing. Great use of smoke and aroma, deep layers of flavor. It was the best meal I’ve had in a long time. The service was top-notch.
Great experience. Food was excellent.
What a great restaurant! The food was the best we had in the city (brussel sprout salad, brazino fish, , Mac and cheese just to name a few) the cocktails were fantastic (try beet it or not with the beet juice!), and the staff was friendly and loved talking about the food and how the dishes are prepared (thanks again, Christopher). Alex G. has created a terrific restaurant that makes for an amazing date night in NYC.
Feels like a tourist restaurant for those going to the theatre. I’ve given it two chances. Poor service. $8 for a glass of water. One can do better in Manhattan
Food was excellent. Every part of the meal had Exceptional touch and taste. The cocktails left some to be desired but if you’re focused on food, this is your place.
Food and service was amazing!! Love the drinks and my pork chop left me speechless which is hard to do!!
Wish there were a few more choices, but food and service was awesome
Excellent service and great food as always. This time we tried the veal bacon which is out of this world. We also had the gnocchi Mac and cheese, green beans and boneless short ribs. This place is great for any occasion.
The ambiance is stunning and homey. Staff very welcoming and helpful. The food was delicious and varied. Great value and fun dining experience.
Great lunch. Was recommended by a family member and this didn’t disappoint. Everyone raved about the burger. The jalapeño cole slaw was very good. I had the cavatappi pasta and it was amazing. I recommend raspberry beignets.
The waiter we had initially was good enough but when his shift was over he left us in the hands of a woman named Jacqui who was all attitude when we barely saw her.....we had to get our check through the busboy and beg for drinks...and we waited longer for dessert than we did for our meals.... The food was great but service after our server left was horrible.
Food was great - the bartender - a woman was rude and snippy and charged $20 for a cocktail that wasn’t full. So rude that we opted to eat at a table. She took me order for a drink and started to make it before taking my husbands drink order and then proceeded to get water for new guests who sat down. FINALLY she came over and took his order - how RUDE!!!! I blew out the small oil burning votive wafting up my sensitive nose and she grabbed it and immediately relit it and placed it further down the bar! Huffing and puffing! So rude !!!!!!!
Went to Butter for lunch to celebrate my 40th Birthday with my father, which was noted on my reservation. No mention of it whatsoever during service until I told our server. We both ordered med rare filet mignon. They were both overcooked. We didn’t want to wait for a refire so we just ate them as is. The server was very nice and apologetic. She told us she would inform the manager, who never bothered to speak to us. Afterwards, the server informed us they comped one of the steaks, which was appreciated.
I picked this restaurant because I have been a fan of Chef Guarnaschelli’s for awhile and always wanted to try Butter. The aesthetic of the restaurant is beautifully rustic and the food tasted really great; the veal bacon melts in your mouth!! But whole experience was unfulfilling due to the complete lack of hospitality. It may as well be a Pickup/ drive through service.
Service was bad. Waiter continually walked by the table dropping things off & never saying anything. $37 for a chicken breast is outrageous.
Waitress responsive and timely
Service was horrible. I had to get up and ask for a cup of coffee. I also had to wait 30 minutes for my bill.
Had a wonderful meal. Everything was excellent.
Butter is a very eccentric restaurant that is fun and has a very enjoyable atmosphere. Our service could have been A LOT better.
That Veal Milanese was worth every penny and then some. Absolutely delicious! Also it was probably the best wedge salad I've ever ate. I highly recommend Butter Midtown.
Noise level made conversation impossible. Food ranged from poor to ordinary. Example: Veal Milanese was greasy and overcooked, dry. Cocktails were good. Would go for drinks before dinner elsewhere.
We went because we wanted to go to Alex's place and it did not disappoint. The gnocchi was heavenly.
Wonderful and somewhat unexpected oasis in midtown.
Food was well prepared, tasty, and interesting. Not certain if service delay was kitchen or waiter. They did attempt to make amends with some unsolicited comps, and were apologetic.
A very good lunch. Cauliflower lasagna and roast pepper soup was great. Only sad thing was pineapple upside down cake was not on menu. Jasmine tea dessert was great! Will definitely be back.
One of the guests in our party ordered the cauliflower entree and really disliked it. Another person in our party tasted it and agreed. However, everything else was great, especially the Brussels sprout salad and the raspberry beignets. All in all, a wonderful evening in spite of the cauliflower.
