Had a great time at Butter Midtown. Service was good and the menu was fantastic. The cocktail list is unique and the wine list is great as well. Would recommend/go back again.
Food is sublime. Excellent service. Ambience and cool music vibe. However, the day we went is was a quite noisy. My first visit was less so. highly recommend.
I was very surprised something as simple as pasta....it was completely overcooked. The steak was all fat. Not what we were expecting.
Like so many others, we were uneasy with the reviews for Butter Midtown. However, we had a wonderful experience. We did not get to meet Alex :(, but the food was fantastic and once our waiter opened up a bit, he was great. We had the New York strip and braised short ribs- awesome. We also had the carrots and green beans- wonderful. It was the deserts that sent us over the top! The three of us ordered something different to share: chocolate peanut butter bar, beignets , and key lime pie....too great to put into words! Go, eat and enjoy!!
Food was amazing! Had the octopus and it was like nothing I've ever had. So good. Service was non existent from our waiter. He took our order and never came back until our plates were cleared. Never even say us with our food but came back so he could offer us dessert. I said something to him and he said he was busy. I stated how he checked the other tables 2-3times and he scoffed and left the check. Disappointing because the food was so good but sadly our waiter left me running out the door.
amazing food and amazing service. Would absolutely recommend
Brunch was fantastic and every bite of food delicious.
Exceptional service and super delicious food. One of the best things I’ve EVER eaten is the raw & roasted Brussels Sprouts salad. Thanks for a fabulous evening Butter!
We throughly enjoyed our meal at Butter! The ambiance is top notch and the food was delicious. The gnocchi mac and cheese was a crowd pleaser as was the yummy topping on the salmon. We will be back for more.
My family and I ate at Butter on Friday, March 15th for my daughter's 19th birthday, She is a huge fan of Food Network and especially Alex G and for her birthday, she asked to have dinner here. We were not disappointed at all!
I was able to secure a reservation and when we arrived, they were waiting for us. Most of the tables at Butter are booth-style which we love. There was plenty of room for the 3 of us to spread out and get comfortable. The server was very friendly and polite.
The menu options are not huge so i would recommend reviewing it online before arriving. I am somewhat of a "picky eater" so I needed to make sure there would be something on the menu I would enjoy. I had no problem selecting something, but it could be a potential challenge. The prices are steep so you want to be sure you will find something delicious.
We started with Veal bacon as our starter and we shared it. The bacon was delicious but not traditional as you may expect. It was covered in an amazing red wine mustard sauce (glaze) was was so flavorful. We ordered drinks and our meals next. I ordered the double cut pork chop over black-eyed peas, my wife ordered the NY strip and my daughter ordered the Short ribs. The meals were absolutely melt in your mouth delicious! We had no room fro dessert but the menu did look awesome and next time, I will skip lunch in order to have the Butter Candy Bar dessert.
My only minor complaint were the prices. I eat in NYC alot and have been to some of the most famous restaurants and steakhouses in Manhattan so I am accustomed to the prices. With that said, I paid $6 for a small bottle of Sprite which is just outrageous. The wine and beer prices were a little high ($9 for a can of select beer and ~$16 for glass of regular pinot). The prices for entrees seemed to be NYC standards about $44-$50 per plate. I just want people to be aware so not to be surprised.
We loved and we will return for diner and dessert soon! Thanks Alex G!!!
The food was delicious. It is a limited menu but there’s lots of variety so you don’t really notice. Members of our group had the short ribs, cavatappi pasta, and the cauliflower. We had two people in our group with food allergies. They were great accommodating our needs. It’s often hard to find restaurants that are willing to adjust menu items to meet allergy needs as opposed to limiting menu choices or removing some element completely. Everyone raved about how good their food was.
The ambiance and decor of the restaurant was a nice blend of rustic with modern touches. It felt comfortable which I know was the goal since comfort food is a focus of Alex Guarnaschelli’s. Tables are nicely spaced so you don’t feel like you’re sitting on top of the table next to you which is the norm in New York. It is really a unique spot and I can’t think of another place in New York like it.
Our server however, was horrible. He assumed that since we didn’t order appetizers or alcohol at the start of the meal, we weren’t worth his time. One member of our group ordered a soda when we ordered but it never came. He never came back to our table until he brought the bill. He never checked on us, never offered dessert menus, and we finally had to ask someone refilling our water glass for coffee after dinner. I often will wait to order a glass of wine just before or when my dinner arrives but since he assumed we wouldn’t be spending enough $ for his time, I couldn’t even do that. What’s worse is that when he would check on his tables around us, it was like he was purposely turn his back to our table and avoid looking at us so we couldn’t get his attention. It’s too bad he couldn’t have been bothered with our table. He missed out because we would have ordered drinks with dinner and most likely dessert. It cost himself a higher tip and the restaurant a higher bill.
Because the food and ambiance were so great, we’ll probably try it again but hopefully he won’t be our waiter next time.
Good service ..nice ambiance..food was fresh, hot and beautifully presented.
I have not written a poor review on open table. Before being seated I went to the rest room. We were the 1st possible reservation as we were attending a broadway play. The bathrooms were dirty. The meal was not good. Pork chop was over cooked and salmon came out room temp. Ordered the special pasta which had shaved truffles : 8 raviolis $40.00, waitress didn’t say price when describing and I stupidly didn’t ask. We didn’t order any dessert as meal was not good . We ordered a pasta as an appetizer to share and didn’t bring plates for table to share. Would not return , as meal was expensive and service was not great.
Butter is in a good location; it is close to Bryant Park and Rock Center. The restaurant is pretty and the service was good. Iwas with teo other people and we all enjoyed our food. My lunch entree was large enough to bring half home.
35th anniversary. Our server treated us extremely special.
Highly recommend Butter.. food is AWESOME
It is everything you would expect from an Iron Chef. The steak tartare, octopus, ribeye and broccoli were simply a culinary roller coaster of flavors and textures that tempted every taste bud and left you wanting more. A shout out to Jacqueline who was awesome and made the experience fun.
Had higher expectations due to Alex’s reputation. Wedge salad was unwieldy to eat and blue cheese was barely present enough to generate a rich flavourful taste. Service was good, beef tartar was tasty and the short ribs were good. We enjoyed the desserts.
The food is absolutely amazing and the playlist is also fun and entertaining - always good music and nice ambiance!
The location is perfect for enjoying dinner and a broadway show! The waitstaff were all friendly and helpful with the menu choices. We tried several appetizers and main dishes but the star of the show might have been in the name of the restaurant. The herb butter with the hot roll was delicious. The gnocchi and squid ink pasta were the appetizers. Both were very rich and flavorful. My wife had the short ribs for dinner and she loved it. I had the NY strip and it was seasoned well with marinated mushrooms on top. The flavor was spot on but the quality of the meat was just OK, with chewy fat throughout most of the steak. I’m glad we went but I think I played it up a little too high in my mind.
Love Love Loved it! The decor and ambiance was very welcoming .....Everything was delicious from the butter to the flank steak! Went for brunch and will be happily satisfied the rest of day 🥰
Nice restaurant but too big not much atmosphere.
I love this place. Quiet and cozy and like you're in an old ski lodge. I loved the huge separate booths since being on top of your neighbor is pretty common in NY... its nice to have some privacy! The service was perfect- attentive but not overly so. And the food was amazing also... I started with the appetizer special of foie gras was was beautifully presented and so decadent. My partner and I also appreciated the good -size martini glasses which were actually martini shaped and not super tiny... another rare find in Midtown! I'm a bit surprised that this place wasn't packed solid on a Saturday night, but I certainly didn't have a problem with the lack of people closer to 10:30pm when we left.
Some of the best food I've ever eaten! My nephew had visited New York and dined at Butter. He told us about this restaurant so that's how we heard about it. My wife and I had never been to New York so we were thankful for the tip. Outstanding food!
Super attentive staff, perfect lighting/ambiance. Quality food offerings, would like to see a spicy food option, but that’s my only gripe!
Butter was amazing! It was the perfect date night in the city. Our entire meal was excellent, our waiter was very friendly and quick to answer any of our questions and the ambiance was sublime. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an amazing meal with plenty of delicious options!
The food was absolutely amazing! Jacqui was a fantastic waitress and made a good recommendation on the raspberry beignets.
Amazing food, especially the short ribs and the beignets. Beautiful, warm atmosphere. Server Jacqui is the best!!
My appetizer was Hen of the Woods and it was good but my entree arrived cold and was only fair for $45. It was loud in the restaurant with a music speaker right over our table - we moved tables. For that much money I never expected cold food.
we tested Butter at lunch time and the space is very quiet and clear when coming from the noisy streets. The menu was a very good price for value, but we only took dishes à la carte. A little small in quantity but very well prepared. We shall come again for the sunday brunch.
Waitresses were nice and the noise was low for NY. A lot of business lunch that garanty nice behaviour.
I have to say, I dine out quite often at amazing restaurants and was extremely disappointed by the service. We waiters over 45 minutes past our reservations- after having arrived 15 minutes early - only to have mediocre service at the table as well. No make good, no sorry, no acknowledgement of the fact that we had waited around for so long. Truthfully a shame and A small gesture like a round of drinks to recognize this would’ve helped leave a better taste in my mouth.
Since today was my birthday, the ambiance really helped brighten my mood more, The service was very good as well as the food itself and well managed. I'm definitely coming back!😄
Fixe price lunch menu good. Service was awful. I have dined here several times before and it has normally been fine.
Waiter hardly checked back, took forever to come and take an order, never refilled drinks. We were there 3 hours for what should have been a 1 1/2 hour lunch meeting. Was getting awkward as we all had places to be after lunch
Steak was excellent
I brought my 17 year old son to Butter for Dinner last Wednesday evening. We we ordered two appetizers, two Entrees 1 large bottle of sparkling water and I had two glasses of very expensive good wine by the glass. Our Server, Victoria, was lovely, she was very attentive and very nice. We did have to ask the Busser for some bread while we were waiting for our appetizer, to which he was annoyed and placed two (small) rolls on the table. Throughout our dinner my son asked for some more bread twice for a total of 6 rolls for 2 people. We were told very rudely by the Busser that they would have to charge us for the 5th and 6th roll. I honestly thought the Busser was joking and said so, to which he replied with what seemed to be great pleasure "oh no I'm not". I did discuss it with our waitress who was very apologetic and I also asked to speak to the manager because I absolutely could not believe it. The manager came over and really did not seem to care much, I asked if it was true that is the policy at Butter that you are given a maximum of 2 rolls per person and anything after that is charged. His response was yes our chef tells us we should. Two $30 appetizers two $55 Steak entrees (which) were served cold), two $ 20 per glass of wine and one side of potato wedges (also cold) and they charge for bread. Of course I didn't complain that the food was cold because when I am out to dinner I am there for pleasure and do not like to make an issue of small things. I will never ever go back to Butter or refer anyone there. I will be completely honest, I dine out about 4 times a week in 4 star restaurants and I have never written a negative restaurant review. Sometimes things go wrong and that is normal, it is part of the real world, but charging for bread? That is just completely unacceptable.
Music was great, appetizers were even better. Main course was good but I was expecting a bit more flavor in the short ribs. Overall my wife and I will be going back again asotwas worth the trip
First time for actual dinner, usually just cocktails & apps (always great)... everything we ate and drank was delicious but standouts were the smoky Manhattan (can’t remember the name but do NOT skip this cocktail!) and the white cloud cauliflower and tobacco-smoked pork chops. The decor could use a little help (esp the walls) but otherwise great vibe & wonderful staff.
Butter is a fun restaurant with really good food and lovely service. Really good pre-theatre.
Enjoyed the setting, the pacing and the overall energy of Butter. Food was lovely -- if not amazing. We particularly enjoyed the velvety soup and clean tastes of our entrees. HIghly recommended.
Very overpriced for what they serve....salmon tartare appetizer at $24 was a joke....incredibly small portion and lacking any discernible flavor!
Really enjoyed our experience. Food was awesome. Will return for sure.
