The food was the best I've ever had. My husband had the specials and they were great. Our server was awesome. Definitely expensive but worth every penny.
Outstanding! Often when you have high expectations, they are not met. But in this case they were exceeded. The food was one of the best meals I've had in NYC in a long time. I had the duck (amazing) and she had the cauilflower cloud (fantastic). I would absolutely recommend this place!
Amazing as always. Food is excellent.
Over cooked steak yet came out cool to lukewarm. Burger had a hair inside of it.
Amazing anniversary lunch, will definitely be back. Hopefully there will be an Alex sighting next visit!
Wonderful.. start to finish!
Wonderful birthday dinner for my husband. Food and drinks were perfect and delicious. Service was very good. Was able to relax and enjoy the experience. We love it at Butter and will always be back when in the city!!
Must try. Food was amazing, cocktails were creative and delicious.
Brunch was AMAZING!!
The variety of dishes and the quality and taste!! Salmon melted in your mouth... scones AMAZING!!!
Sooo many choices!!!
Lovely brunch, smaller buffet but everything was well thought out, fresh and delicious!
Food and atmosphere are incredible. Service is incredibly poor. We have been there twice and each time we waited an average of 15 minutes before the server came to take our drink order then waited another 20 minutes for them to deliver the drinks. Once our food was ordered and served the waiter never came back to check on us nor were we able to get their attention to order a second round of drinks. We were hoping the poor service was a one time event but after being there a second time on a different night and experiencing the same lackadaisical service, we will definitely NOT be back.
In a city that has tons of restaurants with outstanding food and atmosphere, the recommendation is to PASS on Butter Midtown and opt for one of the many other high end restaurants that hit high marks on food, atmosphere AND service.
Amazing food and great wait staff service. Unfortunately, I filled up on the dinner rolls which are to die for!!!!!
Amazing! Highly recommend.
Service wad excellent as was all the food excep the potaoes au gratin..i felt that the potatoes were under cooked. Going back to try their lunch.
I read the reviews before making this reservations and for the most part, I agree with them. Food was overpriced for sure but tasted good. My husband loved his strip steak and my diver scallops were excellent. We also ordered a very nice grilled broccoli side dish and a salad, good but way too expensive. Overall, very enjoyable meal.
Their ambiance and service were perfect. And the food was good, but a little bit overpriced. My friend and I had mac&cheese and tomahawk steak for two. Their bread was amazing, so we asked our waiter for more bread. And she was very friendly and gave us more bread. Mac &cheese was good, a little bit cheesy for me, but my friend loved it! For steak, we thought it was beef steak, but pork steak haha. It was our mistake, but the food was good! A little bit overpriced for pork, but overall it was good. We had to wait over 40 min, but we were informed that it would take time about 45 min when we ordered the food, so it was fine. I definitely recommend this restaurant :)
Everything is always phenomenal at Butter.
First of all, the food and the server were wonderful. I would come back, minus the waiting time.
Hostess not considerate of our time. I arrived 5 mins early before my reservation at 1pm for 2 people for a business lunch. There seem to be 3 groups of people also waiting around the couches, who seemed annoyed. My business associate arrived at 1:05pm. Our table was not ready until 1:20pm. As she walked us to our 2 chair table, I noticed 3 tables and 2 booths against the wall, available. I asked the hostess what took so long, she stated she was waiting for a booth to open up but none have. I had to point out , that there were 2 booths available behind us and she finally switched us. Needless to say my business associate was not impressed with the first impression, but the food and the (service from the )waiter made up for the lack of service from the hostess.
Small entree salads for a high price. Nothing special. Very low value for the price. Nobody puts Baby in the basement (not a fan of underground venues).
This restaurant has the best food I’ve eaten in a long time! Thank you Alex!
Loved our server! Attentive, friendly and helpful
This was outstanding! The Parkerhouse rolls were to die for... I had the diver scallops that were great, just much smaller size of scallop than I expected. My daughter had the duck thighs and loved them. Great experience and food!
Great main server, felt rushed and details like side plates needed went unnoticed with assistants.
Nice restaurant. Thought the food was decent. I had the chicken, which was a little bland. Would go again, but not my favorite.
Went to Butter for a late Sunday brunch. Great varied selection of food at the buffet which was constantly checked and replenished by staff. Friendly staff made it a great experience!
We went for brunch. Food was good. The trays were not attended to properly. When you would open the chafing dishes many of them were near empty. More attention to replenishment was needed. Otherwise the dishes look like leftovers and not freshly made.
Excellent food, different tastes and textures.
My wife and I visited Butter for the first time last Saturday night to celebrate her (belated) birthday. From the minute we walked in we were impressed by the casual but upscale ambiance of Butter. Unlike many restaurants in Manhattan, the space was not noisy or over-crowded with tables. We had made a reservation and were shown to our table immediately. We expected wonderful food from a restaurant owned and run by Iron Chef Alex Guarnaschelli, and we were certainly not disappointed. However, the service at Butter was what impressed us the most. Jackie was very friendly, inviting, helpful, and genuine. We asked for multiple food & drink recommendations, and she was spot-on with everything. We had such a wonderful time that we decided to then enjoy after-dinner drinks at the bar following dinner. We would HIGHLY recommend dining at Butter, and we plan to go back next time we are in NYC.
As a big fan of Alex Guarnaschelli, I was very excited to dine at Butter. Although it was very expensive, she delivered as I anticipated!
My family and I split the Gnocchi Mac & Cheese for a starter, which was my favorite part. For an entrée, I had the duck thighs, which I also enjoyed.
I left happily with a signed photo of Alex!
We dine out a lot in NYC and it is rare that we're disappointed, so I was surprised that Alex's restaurant was underwhelming. The food was just ok, but for the price charges, you expect a lot more. We paid $18 for 5 cold poached shrimp with a mostly mayo sauce, $49 for a tough steak, and $36 for duck thighs that were mostly made up of bone. This just wasn't anything special or anything you'd expect from a food star's restaurant. After dining, I wasn't surprised that it wasn't busy on a Friday night.
The upsides were that the restaurants decor was quite nice, the staff were friendly, and you could hear one another speak.
Food was amazing and our server was excellent. Definitely try the Gnocchi Mach and Cheese and Raspberry Beniets.
2 things: My wife and I were celebrating our new marriage (2 weeks ago) and my best friend's first time to NYC.
Great birthday dinner
Great food, poor service. Food/ drinks very slow- took an hour to get our meal. We had to wave down our waiter to order food/drinks. Hostess were snobby, servers dropped food off litterally- plates dropped at our table. Slow and not inviting.
Delicious and memorable meal in a gorgeous room with comfy banquette seating. Ordered the foie gras which was fabulous. Two people ordered the steak which was executed perfectly and which included the most delicious hen of the woods mushrooms. The cavatappi was creamy and a little tart which was a different take and special. Potato gratin was intensely rich but we did not enjoy the broccoli so much. Beignets with raspberry jam and creme was very worth the calories! Definitely coming back.
It was quite empty at lunch time on a Thursday, and yet the service was painfully slow. Fish tacos were barely cooked and had little flavor.
Lovely & delicious
We selected Butter because my daughter is a Gossip Girl fan. It was AMAZING!!! And we will definitely revisit there. Although the menu appears pricey, you get MORE than your money’s worth!!!!
My daughter and I ate there, while in NYC from Michigan, because she’s a big Alex fan. We were there for lunch, they had good food, our waiter was not too attentive, a couple times we had ask others for help (they were kind). Honestly, if it weren’t for Alex I wouldn’t eat there again because of the service, and it is a bit pricey for what you get. But, again, the food was good.
Easter Brunch—great ambience with a warm, cozy atmosphere, great surprising upbeat R&B oldies music, food seasoned and cooked to perfection, and just the right number of food choices! I will be back!!
