A nice place, but just NICE. Service was weak...friendly enough but slow and not particularly professional for a restaurant at this price point. The food was good but uneven; Gnocchi "Mac n Cheese" was excellent as were the salads. Our main courses arrived a bit tepid, and were OK, not particularly special. The low-point was that the sides, e.g. oven roasted potatoes arrived cold and greasy. I'm glad I went and visited Butter, however, I probably won't go again as there are so many other restaurants in NYC that are better for the price point.

I did not go for the restaurant week menu. The additional menu items were very limited. The salad I received had way too much vinegar in the salad dressing and I could not finish it. They did not offer there parker house rolls because of restaurant week which was disappointing. The Lemon dessert was not edible. It was way too sweet with not nearly enough lemon. I don't think myself or my sister finished our meal. It is very unfortunate because my visit in the past was good.

I’ve been waiting awhile to eat at Butter, and it did not disappoint. It’s a very unique building, which makes dining there feel almost a little exotic. The food was excellent ... better than excellent even ... I’m still dreaming about the squid ink spaccatelli with grilled octopus. Service was divine as well. This is a must try.

Lunch on Jan. 21, 2020, the first day of Restaurant Week NYC. I had the Cauliflower Salad, Seared Hake on bed of vegetables, Passion Fruit Mousse, water. Service was efficient, unobtrusive, professional. Warm wooden decor in subterranean space w/ reassuring view of sky. Companion enjoyed his meal too. I'd definitely return.

I've been to Butter numerous times and have always loved it.
Went for restaurant week and was disappointed.
I order clams and was delivered mussels, when I asked the server he said no clams today we have mussels.
The waitress didn't tell me when I ordered.
Had the beef and it was tough and dry.

Its a great price for brunch for midtown Manhattan. Service was pleasant. We wanted to order more drinks, but the servers did not stop by to take our order.

Great buffet with delicious entree offerings, fresh fruit, scones and sides. Only thing I would maybe change Is the pastries for dessert. They are good but could be more inventive and interesting than brownies and mini cupcakes. Overall we loved our meal and would come again.

Treated ourselves to brunch at Butter on our trip to NYC - it was wonderful! The buffet spread was really impressive, and I can’t recommend the biscuits or brioche French toast highly enough!

The food was absolutely amazing. Server was knowledgable about the menu and gave excellent suggestions. Service was almost to fast - would have preferred to have more time with cocktails and starters before mains arrived.

The Crispy Brussels Sprouts & Baby Spinach salad was delicious and substantial. Dressing was very tasty, unique. The Pan Seared Branzino was flavorful, however, the portion was more Appetizer then Large Plate.

I ordered Long Island Seabass and it was horrible it was not fresh. I’m from Long Island I eat Seabass at many restaurants and this was not fresh.
The waiter was very polite but didn’t have knowledge of the menu. But he went out of his way to find out and answer all questions.

Were seated promptly. The dining room was very well done and comfortable. Service was excellent and the waiter was very well informed and provided some excellent suggestions. Would definitely go back and take others.

Excellent experience. Very knowledgeable server and the food was wonderful. My only comment is that I believe they forgot to put the "rosemary" in the Rosemary potatoes! I would go back again. Highly recommended.

Spent weekend in the city- the weather was perfect - came across Butter and knew the it was owned by Chef Alex- and I was NOT disappointed- The Shrimp & Grits was the best I Ever had! Would definitely try this place out for dinner next time.

I am a huge fan of Iron Chef, especially Alex G. I had high expectations and this meal did NOT disappoint. I was shocked to know that in the middle of Manhattan lies an underground restaurant owned by the goddess herself. I ordered the black truffle butter NY strip steak and when I tell you that I am NOT a meat person, nor a fan of steak - I had to get out of my comfort zone to try this. IT WAS DELICIOUS! Soooo buttery, decadent, mouth watering, full of flavor, filling, and huge! I couldn't even finish it all. I promise you I would not order anything else on that menu (other than the raspberry beignets <--- those are to die for). The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and while being an upscale restaurant, it did not feel like the prices were outrageous. I'd definitely come back time and time again. Thank you Alex for an unforgettable meal!

Normally a lunch favorite of mine. I do the prefix lunch special every time. I didn't love the cauliflower salad appetizer. My Butter Burger was average, typically a bit juicier. Still good, but not excellent.

We had a 6:30 reservation and were sat a a nice booth in the back of the restaurant at 6:50. Our server took about 10 minutes to come to our table and did not greet us. He asked us what type of water we wanted and handed us a wine list and specials. He came back after another 10 minutes to take our drink and food order. The food was average and or serve finally came by and took some time to know us. The food came he check on us before we took a bite but after that we didn’t see him for 30 minutes. I stacked our barely eaten plates at the end of the table after waiting forever for him to see if we were satisfied. Someone came by and took our food away. I sat my debit card at the end of the table and he finally came and took the card and asked about desert which by that time we are so ready to leave we didn’t care for dessert.

We made this reservation about a month ago because we love Alex G and could not wait to dine there. Maybe we caught the waiter on a bad day but I can’t remember the last time I didn’t tip 25-35%. It hurt me to do it but the server did not earn a good tip. He was nice but maybe he had too many tables? Coming from Dallas we were really disappointed. The absolute worst $100 meal ever, and we didn’t drink, have an appetizer, or desert. It breaks my heart to write this review on Alex’s restaurant but hopefully this helps to improve things. I was previously a bartender and waited tables - this was bad from start to finish.

The hostess was nice and did her best to get us sat as quickly as possible since we had a reservation with no table ready for us. She was sincerely apologetic for the 20 minute wait for a table which we understood can happen.

Having dined here before, I am never disappointed. The quality of food is excellent. Great atmosphere. Service excellent. Good wine selection. My only regret is that I was too full to order the delicious beignets for dessert! Great restaurant!!

First time visit at Butter and going to see a play in the area. Server asked about the time of the play and the food was served with plenty on time to make the play. Very good experience.

It was great, had such wonderful service. The food was amazing, particularly the Beef Wellington which was a special of the night. I 100% will be coming back with family and friends in the future.

Booked for dinner prior to a Broadway show— daughter had heard Butter mentioned on “Gossip Girl” several times and wanted to go, hubs & I are familiar with chef from Food Network. It was a letdown. The restaurant is located below street level with no windows— a bit of a cave-like feeling, we’re led to a corner table & still excited... the table was oddly shaped & made it quite difficult to speak to each other (hard to explain the shape) and wobbled so much we had to hold the water glasses down. Friendly waitstaff stuffed napkins for several minutes but couldn’t fix it. We moved to another table and were still excited. Long story short — we ordered 3 entrees, 4 glasses of wine & 1 side item and our bill was over $400. We’re used to the inflated prices around Broadway, but this is highway robbery. The food was mediocre — entrees were a la carts and only 3 sides to choose from. The bread seemed a bit stale— but my daughter did say the herbed butter was really good. This was our least fav restaurant before a show that we’ve been to and will not return — there are far too many better, more exciting spots to choose!

The restaurant's host made for a stellar evening. We were celebrating a colleague's retirement and had a wonderful conversation with him. He generously provided three glasses of champagne, which was a delicious treat.

My wife and I were really hungry and wanted to start with some bread but the hostess said they could not seat us for our 530pm reservation until the other couple in our party of 4 showed up. They said we would have to order appetizers for everyone if we were seated without the other 2 in our party being there. They did seat us and our friends showed up before anyone came to take our order... so it ended up not being a problem, but still kind of annoying to be told that ... we ended up spending over $100/person for the dinner and its a little silly to keep people waiting if they want to be seated at the time of their reservation.

Utterly. Top. Notch. Brussels sprouts were divine in texture with an orgasmic journey and balance of sweet, tart, and acidity with leaves that practically melted on your tongue. My tongue could spend the day gingerly exploring those dreamy, buttery dinner rolls, with frequent dives into those Brussels sprouts-such a naughty sea of deliciousness. Impeccable customer service. No pretense. Just outstanding in every facet.
