Butter Midtown
BUTTER accommodates PRIVATE EVENTS for groups of 20 to 250. For more information please visit our website listed below.
It started off great. Mac and cheese was delicious but once the main course was given to the wait staff it took over 45 minutes to get any help for new cocktails etc
I’d expect a $250 meal to have much better service. Take a note from even Taco Bell on how to do service
First time in Alex restaurant
My husband and I were looking forward to having a nice brunch at Butter Midtown, but were somewhat disappointed. Brunch is a buffet and the food was ok to good. I was bummed out the Chef's famous rolls were not available but there were still plenty to eat and overall pretty good.
Our disappointment mainly is with the service or lack there of. Altin our "server" only showed up to take our drink order and drop off the check. Not once did he check in on us not even to offer us coffee. His busboy Balthazar was who we flagged down a couple of times for coffee.
Overall I give it three stars, but I would be willing to give it another try.
Delicious brunch, great value we will be back again soon.
My wife was taking a drink from her water and the glass just broke Im her hand. The waitresses did not seem to care they just brought us napkins and moved us to a different table. They didn’t even apologize. Service was not good either.
Excellent food! Mediocre service - very slow. Ambience is incredible.
Food was delicious - service was pretty good. Went a lunch time with a packed house. Alex has a hit a home run !
Food was delicious. The Brussels sprout appetizer was excellent and the pork cop succulent!
Our server Rachel was very sweet and engaged.
We would definitely return.
Food was spectacular and amazing wine. Butter was extremely accommodating since I had a reservation for a party of 5 & two more of my family members decided to join us last minute. I called beforehand to let management know and the seven of us had a great table with enough space for all of our food. Ladies at the coat check were maybe not as inviting but besides that no complaints. I will definitely come back to try the rest of the menu.
Wonderful food and good service
Their bathrooms were dirty, their menus had stains on them, they did not allow any substitutions of things that were on their menu (wanted to substitute grilled broccoli instead of broccoli rabble) and our waiter was not personable and just wanted us out of there.
Not to mention their prices were out of control. $50 for a mushroom risotto that the waiter described to us as an appetizer portion.
The food was good; however I do not think we will be back. Very disappointing night out that we had been looking forward to.
Excellent food. 20 min to get a bar drink. Table service slow but kitchen produced order quickly- in time to be early for the show.
Wonderful experience. Service was friendly and accommodating. Food was delicious and creative.
Thanksgiving trip to NYC with my daughters.
Lived up to our expectations. Food was excellent. Really excellent. Staff was very good except for the hostess was a little huffy. Would recommend it to anyone.
Best place if you’re a gossip girl fan! Amazing food.. lovely drinks and great service!
It was my daughters first meal in New York for her first New York thanksgiving experience. I had the salmon which was perfectly cooked and she had the gnocchi which was devoured. It was a great start to our thanksgiving vacation. We shall return
Wonderful restaurant!! Food great! Waiter wonderful!!
Thanksgiving Meal delicious!
The food was delicious. The T-bone was Monroe than enough for 3 or 4 people. Perfectly done!
Wonderful ambience and surprisingly good acoustically. Service was only okay by the waitress but very good by other servers. Overpriced and too much salt and butter but menu good
Amazing. My favorite place to go when visiting NYC.
Very good! The service was excellent. The lemon cream sauce with my fish was a little overwhelming for the fish, but otherwise, was very good. Short ribs were fantastic. Mac & cheese gnocchi was wonderful.
Visiting from Houston but this was a return visit to Butter. The second experience was very different from the first. We weren't there for a pre-theatre meal but because our reservation was fairly early (6:30), the restaurant was very crowded. This seemed to impact the service. When we asked our server about two of the wines, she said she would need to ask someone who knew more. She came back with a specific recommendation from someone which we took. She then returned with a different wine because they had run out of the recommended wine the night before. The person making the recommendation should have known that. The wine was then brought to the table and opened, only to have the server say she needed go take the order of someone going to a show. She left us to pour our own wine! And never refilled our glasses throughout the night. ON to the menu. Our server laid a card with the specials on the table. There were no prices and no explanation of anything on the card until we asked. We specifically asked about the risotto special and SHAME ON ME, I didn't ask the price. But I shouldn't have had to. The risotto dish was $50. The only thing more expensive on the menu was a t-bone with black truffle butter for $55. Ok. there were white truffles involved but truffles are all over menus these days. It was nice but I don't think I would have ordered it if I had known the price. ON the bright side, the grilled broccoli with aged balsamic was fabulous!!
I have been to Butter for prematinee lunch and it’s been really good. I booked it for dinner because it was one block from our show. This time it was a real disappointment. The rolls were stale, the salmon was overcooked, the branzino was swimming (no pun intended) in sauce, and they charged us $8 a bottle for in house distilled water. Service was good and made sure we were on time for our show. But I’m sure Butter can do better.
Wonderful. Claire our waitress was lovely. The food was outstanding. We got to see the owner which was an added bonus. My 50th bday was perfect be of this dinner.... and my boyfriend of course :)
This is my first review on OpenTable. I was very excited to have dinner at Butter but ended up disappointed in the food. The wait staff was terrific but my meal was mediocre. There are too many other good restaurants in NYC to enjoy a expensive meal
at and I hate wasting my time and money on a meal that wasn’t good. I will not be going back.
We very much enjoyed our evening at Butter, ambience was fantastic, staff was amazing, will be back soon, those mushrooms though, my goodness!
Food was perfection! Service was slow and inattentive, unapologetic but pleasant. The strip steak was cooked perfectly and the flavors and portions were fantastic.
Waitress Ashley? was short and sweet..not very attentive, did not want to elaborate when asked questions was annoying. Then disappeared. Manager of India descent hovered over our table like we were gonna walk out on our check ..258.00 later food quality was poor from past visit T-bone was cold, bread 3 times ask for fresh bread ..3 times we recieved the same hard cold bread..disappointing. Ask was the chef the same she said yes..maybe chef was off that day.. drinks also seemed different with the watermelon ice cubes..? Bragged about this place an entire year getting my husband to bring me back to NYC to visit..will not return anytime soon
Burger was fabulous, soup was not (one too creamy, one with broth not very tasty) and the desserts we ended up not eating. The ambiance is nice. The service? Don't seem to be happy staff.
Ate @ Bobby Flay's Gato the night before and Butter kicked, well, butt all over Gato. Maybe it was the Sunday vs. Saturday night thing, but Butter was spectacular. The truffle-oil-dressed steak my wife ordered may have been the best piece of meat either of us had ever eaten. And my branzino was perfectly cooked. Super-attentive and superb wait staff.
I love Butter and was excited to take my family there when we visited NYC. However, when we arrived, all that was available was the buffet. (Sunday) The buffet was mediocre food that is overpriced. So disappointing!
The food, the place, the drinks...EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT!! This place is great!
Food was mediocre at best. I ordered the sea bass.. it was over cooked, skin was soggy and it had multiple bones. Service was average. I would have expected more from a Food Network Star, whom I actually am a big fan of.
Celebrated with me Boston College roommates at Butter for our 50th bday celebration and we loved it! Must haves on the menu are : the wedge salad (probably the best ever), pork chop, braised short rib and the sweet potato gnocci! Enjoy!
Big fan of Alex was looking forward to this dinner. Host had zero personality. Server was great as well as bussers.
Appetizers were very good
Cocktails were horrible and very unbalanced. In fact server told us this one gets sent back all the time.
Got short rib and for $45++ was a rip off and it was served ice cold.
Dessert was the best thing we had.
Left extremely dissatisfied and disappointed
This was an excellent choice for my husbands birthday dinner. The ambiance was warm and inviting, service was great and the food was delicious. My 8 year old daughter especially loved the bbq short ribs and the raspberry beignets.
The food was great except that all of the dishes they are “known for” weren’t hot. Warm, edible, tasty but not hot, which means they had been mass prepared beforehand and kept under a heat lamp or something. I would have sent them back but had a show to get to so time was limited. Other than that it was a great meal. Claire our server was knowledgable and paid close attention to our needs. I would go back I think.
We had a wonderful evening here. The staff was friendly; the service was prompt. And of course the food was delicious. The salmon was, without a doubt, the best I've eaten - highly recommend!
