We came in tonight for my 30th birthday, this restaurant provides an excellent atmosphere for a special occasion or a group of friends get together. Our meal was amazing and our server was so attentive. We will definitely be returning.
Great meal as always. Restaurant wasn’t very busy and the staff was attentive! My daughter (age 12) loved introducing her friends to her favorite restaurant. One friend said “no other steak will ever compare now” and by the next day the girls were still talking about that raspberry beignets!
The food was amazing. Our server was on point. The ambience was very laid back. I’m not sure if this is the goal but it was nice. However, it seemed to take a long to time get our courses. For example, we received our appetizers, finished them and then sat there waiting for our main course. Once we finished our main course we ordered dessert. There was some confusion about our dessert but once received it was delicious. I ordered decaf coffee (it was almost 9p) to go with the dessert and our dessert course was almost over once I received the coffee. That was slightly disappointing. S I’ll 5 stars bc everything else was delightful.
The steak we ordered was really good. The truffle butter added a unique flavor to our perfectly executed steak.
We went to Sunday buffet, but I think buffet is not a good way to judge since food sitting in warming dishes is never as good as freshly prepared off the menu. Wanted to try while we were in NY so it thought it was most economical way to try Alex’s restaurant. Was not blown over, but not totally disappointed. Some items were not available when we first arrived and refilling took time. Most disappointing was the desserts available. Simply ok. Best was the gnocchi macaroni and cheese and the steak and Cesar salad. Shrimp and grits way too sweet. Maybe try lunch next time we visit NY.
I had been to the restaurant for lunch a few months ago and was good, so I went back for Sunday brunch. The brunch buffet was disappointing: food variety was limited (even then smoked salmon disappeared so fast & was not refilled until we were walking out), taste was mediocre and even coffee wasn’t that good. For $40/person, I would not go back.
Server had great energy and was just the right amount of attentive. Food had so much flavour!
Great dinner. Loved the Gnocchi Mac and Cheese! Cocktails were very good!
Excellent food and service!!
Good food excellent service.
18th birthday dinner for my daughter. Party if 4 before an 8:00 show. Server was excellent, know our schedule and accommodated us perfectly without rushing. Suggested items that took longer than normal so we would not be in a bind for time. Food was outstanding. 5 stars for sure !
My girlfriend and I went to Butter for our anniversary. On our arrival, we were immediately seated and staff was table side. Due to it being our anniversary, we were unexpectedly given complimentary champagne. We both ordered the NY strip steak. Steak was fantastic, as was the appetizer and dessert. Will definitely enjoy dinner at Butter again.
Ambiance was pleasant, noise level was low so we could have a conversation with our friends. Food was awesome. The Wedge salad was huge, brussel sprouts were yummy. We had the branding, roasted chicken and braised ribs— all were good.
We ended the dinner with the raspberry beignets which were delicious!!!!
In NYC for 4 days and hands down the BEST MEAL we had! Absolutely amazing! We had the brussel sprout salad, gnocchi mac n cheese, and the Rib Eye. Phenomenal!
It’s been years since I’ve been able to just hang out in midtown for a few days. This was my opportunity to finally enjoy an early dinner at Butter. I enjoyed the experience a great deal. The comfort of the decor, the atmosphere, fantastic service, wonderfully tasty food. I will definitely make reservations again, the next time I’m in New York.
I follow AG on IG! I was in the city for the day and needed to be at the Theatre by 7 so I was excited to get a reservation at Butter! The reviews were mixed so I kept my expectations in check. First let me say the staff was exceptional. From hostess, to bartender to waitress! High energy and easy going. Those Parker House rolls, Yumm! Now, for areas of improvement; the bar stools are made for very large people. The edges of the upholstery are not very padded and somewhat uncomfortable on your legs. We had the Mushroom Wedge, the Ribeye, Salmon, and Cavatappi Pasta. The mushroom was interesting and well cooked but other then an occasional touch of Balsamic not much flavor. Disappointing. My friend the steak was good, but nothing special. My salmon was the same. I don't usually eat salmon out, but I love fennel and that caught my eye. There was really nothing exceptional or flavorful about this dish. The fennel was actually prepared in a way that made it difficult to eat. My other friend said the Cavatappi was good. I didn't try it. There were a few things on the menu that have been featured on IG, but the rest seem rather uninspired. I would recommend someone go here, but go with minimal expectation to be wowed. Oh, the specials seemed to much alike which I found odd.
Shrimp was super salty, almost inedible. Two small iced teas plus two refills: $24. Really?
The service here is terrible. Rude people.
We were celebrating my bf bday and it was an amazing experience!
Good food and service. But wall-to-wall drunk, loud tourists/B&T crowd.
Everything was just average. The menu was not very innovative and the service was proficient and professional, but not very engaging or informative. The restaurant was loud as there was a private group in the bar area. I was expecting much more from this place.
Really good food and very helpful and attentive staff - they cooked something “off menu” for our daughter - one slight complaint was the price - a bit pricey - for example we were charged $16 for two bottles of sparkling water which were essentially from a carbonated tap - and the wine by the glass was very pricey at $18 a glass but it is NYC - would probably go back but would avoid certain overpriced items - brunch for two adults and a 5 year old came in at over $200
The food was delicious and very original.
Very pleased. Food was delicious overall experience was good. Seated right on time. Food came out on time as well.
We ordered the Tbone but got the ny strip. The waiter was really nice in comping it for us. But it was our anniversary/ bday. Was expecting to enjoy the food.
Celebrating or anniversary and birthday. The appetizers and main entrees were incredible but the dessert was just ok, which is why I gave four stars. Ambiance, service and wines were also excellent.
I was there for the first time, and it was delightful. The food and drinks were great. The service was on point. and service was great. They did not rush us, and will be back again.
The food was good but nothing blew us away. Our biggest issue was the deceiving special menu. That evening they featured a homemade tagliatelle dish with mushrooms and shaved truffle. No price was listed on the special menu. The dish was small but tasty. However, when we got the bill we realized it was a whopping $60. I would’ve never ordered it if I had know that up front. I know truffles are special and rare (I’ve been to Tuscany and seen the dogs sniff and dig them out, then shaved them on pasta I made!). Our waitress was not overly friendly esp when we told her we were unhappy how we were deceived. She made us feel like paupers who didn’t know truffles were expensive. The manager was unapologetic too. We won’t be returning here or recommending to anyone. Poor customer service.
Loved everything about our evening. Great food and service.
Excellent choice for a pre-matinee theatre performance lunch.
When we started planning our trip to New York, dining at Butter was at the top of our bucket list. After seeing this restaurant on Gossip Girl and reading the reviews, it was a must do. We called a month before our trip and booked a table for our Saturday night there.
We arrived an hour early for our reservation but the host, Kian was so accommodating about it. She was very helpful and walked us to the bar to wait for our table. We enjoyed a drink while we waited and once our table was ready Kian came back to let us know she'd sit us whenever we were ready. So we finished enjoying our seats at the bar and were sat after we closed out the tab.
The ambiance of the restaurant is unlike any I've experienced. And the food was to die for. The bread and butter was so delicious that we asked for more. I had the New York steak and it was cooked a perfect medium-rare and was a huge piece. I couldn't finish it. One of my friends had the salmon and loved it. The cocktails were very tasty and refreshing. We were all so full that we didnt order dessert and I regret it.
Butter was the ultimate New York dining experience that I had dreamt of. It completely blew me away and exceeded all my expectations. The staff, ambiance, food, cocktails and decor were absolutely amazing. And Butter will now be a staple for all my New York trips.
I would highly recommend Butter!! Even the bread was amazing. Every bite was just exquisite. Can't wait to go back.
Dinner was outstanding! The service was great and the raspberry beignets were unreal.
The flavors of the food were wonderful, just a shame that everything was served lukewarm :(
Mentioned this to our server and she could have cared less. I’m a huge fan of Chef Alex so this was such a disappointing dinner.
Food, wine and atmosphere amazing. Just FYI, Menus were a bit dirty and bathroom was too. It felt a little too lived in. Sorry :/
This is my third visit and I want to be able to rave but I can’t.
The food is terrific.
But that’s not all that makes a restaurant experience great.
We sat and it was at least 15 minutes before we had a drink or bread (even when we asked), our waitress had an air of being nonchalant which might be fine if you are attentive but in this case it just seemed lazy. Water was slow to be refilled and it just seemed like she didn’t care to try really hard with us.
We were a party of 7 and it didn’t occur to me until afterwards that the gratuity would be included automatically and I wondered if maybe that was why she didn’t go out of her way to be too notch. She did not deserve 20% of that bill.
Back by the bathrooms seems like a dumping ground for beaten up old chairs. Why can’t they be somewhere else? It’s the little things.
All in all for a restaurant of this price point, it should feel much more buttoned up and professional.
It was a disappointment overall. We had high expectations being that this was Alex’s restaurant. We went there before seeing a show. It started off with them not having the first three bourbons that my husband asked for, from their list. Then he got his nice suit pants stuck in gum left under the table in two spots. My fish tasted good, but it was probably only 3 oz, very small. And during the entire time, the wait staff displayed an attitude and provided poor service. When we spoke with the manager, he didn’t apologize or offer us anything. Not even for the gum under the table, that was there long before our night. There are many great choices for pre-theater dinner, but this is not one. I recommend that people go elsewhere.
Was terrific. Went pre-theater. Highly recommend. Best salmon I’ve ever eaten.
Service was excellent. Ambiance wonderful.
Thick cut bacon with red wine was delicious. Everything always tastes better with bacon. Hen of the Wood mushroom wedge is a must for any mushroom fan. Loved the white cloud cauliflower. Had just a bit of spice and roasted perfectly. Will be back to sample more
Jackie, our waitress, was great, and especially made our time there fun. Our food was delicious, but the noise level was horrendous, making our time there less pleasurable.
