Went with another couple for Sunday buffet brunch. Love Alex and wanted this to be so much more than it was. Vibe was hard to figure out, lots of mixed messages, inconsistencies and lack of attention to detail that I think she would hate to have associated with her brand. Food generally speaking was good, everything else was, sadly, meh.
I was so disappointed in our experience at Butter. Such a bummer as we had been really looking forward to going to Alex’s restaurant! My kids are huge Alex/Food Network fans so we were thrilled to bring them. The restaurant opened for brunch at 11 & our reservations were at 11:15. When we arrived the doors were locked. We had to find another entrance by following people through the hotel. Not that big a deal. When we checked in there were about 4 other parties waiting to be seated (they had 11:00 reservations). The hostess stated that they weren’t really ready yet. Finally at 11:35 they started seating the 11:00 folks. We had all sat there in an EMPTY restaurant for over 30 min. We were seated about 10 minutes later. In the empty restaurant. The food was ok. They consistently ran out of food- at one trip to the buffet there were no breads, no French toast, spinach, steak, or bacon. Occasionally they would put new items (mainly premade pastries) out but due to that there were things that we never tried- ie the scones were not put out until we left about an hour later. The food warmers were very small for the size of the restaurant- the reason for them being constantly empty. The set up of the buffet was just on the bar, not a formal or fancy set up at all- Like you’d find at a relatives house. Overall food was just ok, ran out frequently, very small displays, not all items were available for all diners, & not a huge selection. Service as described- over 30 minutes to be seated in an empty restaurant (with reservations). Sadly I would not return.
Delicious food and ambiance! Definitely get the donuts and the filet
Tasty and interesting cocktails, wonderfully fluffy rolls, delicious and flavorful squid ink pasta and octopus. Husband said his entree was the best chicken he’s ever tasted. Spacious, elegant dining room. All four of us thought the meal was great.
Delicious food. Some of the best food I have ever tasted. Great service. Amazing ambiance
food was expensive for what it was. a little loud for the dining ambience created by lighting.
We enjoyed our dinner experience at Butter! We arrived early for our reservation; the greeters offered to take our coats and we were promptly seated at a quaint booth. The server was helpful with wine and entre recommendations. We ordered gnocchi, short ribs, the cod special, and beignets. To say the food was delicious would be an understatement! The atmosphere was enjoyable as the lights were dim, there were fresh flower arrangements at the tables, and the noise volume was low. I told my husband several times over dinner that I want to come again sometime soon! I would highly recommend Butter as a formal dining spot, or a casual-formal spot for drinks.
Food was solid. Didn’t feel inventive. But terrible service. Our sever could care less about us and the bussers followed suit. I love how my plate was grabbed away while I was looking away but my hand was touching it.
Absolutely one of the best meals we have had in a long time. The short ribs were so tender, the pork chop was divine, the prawns were delicious and then there was the beignets....oh my goodness! They were the best things ever!! You have to try them and then get a double order--you won't regret it. The atmosphere is great for a group or a date night, and the service was impeccable! We will definitely be back!
This was a great night! High quality dishes and fantastic staff made for really satisfied customers.
Will definitely be back
Amazing food, incredible service!! Will dine again
Excellent food. Drinks were delayed. Appetizers arrived before drinks. Great atmosphere!
Music too loud in waiting area. Food is always very good but too many greens with roast chicken and they were tough and almost inedible. The rolls were fabulous but only one per person seemed tacky.
Met every expectation. Service was attentive and quick. Waiter was knowledgable. Only thing id possibly gripe about are the side dishes, they tasted great, but the pairings with the entrees are a bit wierd. But it didnt take away from the flavor at all. Everything tasted great. Wedge salad was fresh crisp and a great starter. Mac n cheese was velvety. Salume pizza was good too. Braised chicken was flavorful and moist, seems like they brine. Grilled ribeye special was perfect also. I’d consider expanding the beer menu with a few more recognizable brands, maybe a stella or yeungling. Amazing time, i’ll be back.
Butter Midtown is a great place to go for a special meal. It’s high-end but not unattainable. Everything was unbelievably delicious, even the rolls. It’s worth every penny.
Absolutely exceeded our expectations! Food was amazing, service was impeccable and the ambiance was perfect. Can’t wait to return 😊
My experience at Butter NYC was spectacular! I had an amazing time with my girlfriend on Valentine’s Day . The Salmon dinner and RaspberryBeignets were amazing .
Butter is Butta!
Best pork chop in NYC!
My wife and I were able to get a table for dinner last night. Easily one of the very best culinary experiences of our lives. We're both real foodies and the short rib and tobacco smoked pork chop was seriously out of this world. Tremendous value for the quality of the food and experience. I will come back every time I have the opportunity to visit Manhattan.
We all loved the food. The mushrooms were off the chart delicious. The steak was very good, but recognize we were mostly from TX and OK, so we're really picky on the beef. We were happy though. The dessert were very good, but it was not equivalent to my Butter experience downtown. Those dessert were works of art. So, there needs to be an upgrade on the decor and artistic expression there, Chef! I know you will take the challenge.
The server was FANTASTIC!! I think his name was Aldin. I just wanted to put a word in for him because he really went above and beyond. He was so kind and thoughtful, unlike some of the other servers I experienced while in NYC. BONUS him!!
Excellent menu. Very well though out dishes. Normal portions. Loud restaurant. Diner style bench booths mainly. Comfortable but didnt feel "fancy". Food was delicious.
The food and atmosphere were outstanding. As visitors tough, we had one issue. Butter does not have a booster seat for young diners.
This is a great choice for before or after theatre. Is close enough to walk, but not right in the thick of Times Square. The restaurant is on the lower level. It's spacious and very elegant. It's also large and so the tables are not right on top of each other - allowing for greater comfort and you can actually hear each other! And the food was outstanding! And the service was excellent. They also have many seats at the bar (we were very early for our reservation) and our bartender was wonderful.
If you like 25 foot ceilings and a cold draft blowing on you and a tiny table - this is the place for you . Unfortunately my seafood salad appetizer was surprisingly bad - the squid was very stiff and rubbery and there was a very fishy taste overall which was pretty gross. Disappointing because I love seafood . My entree cod cake was quite good / nice crunchy exterior . However the cabbage slaw on top would have been nice but it too had a foul fishy taste to some parts of it . Some parts of the slaw were very tasty then other parts had that smelly fishy taste . My drink was good though and the panna cotta dessert was very nice . Sorry - we wished we could have liked it better . We along with some others had to eat with our coats on due to the constant cold wind blowing down my shirt from the very high ceilings .
Restaurant Week experience was not that good. Small portions did not match descriptions and dessert was stone cold when should have been warm. Left hungry and disappointed. No issues with server (she was lovely and tried to make things better). May give another chance for regular menu. Manager also very attentive when approached.
I went here for restaurant week. The ambiance was great, but disappointed the food portions were small.
My friend and I came for Restaurant Week and we had a nice time.
The servers were friendly and the food was good. The service was rather slow to start. It took almost 40 minutes to get our first course.
To be fair, the entrees and desserts came faster. They were just slow getting out of the gate.
I got the beet carpaccio, the prime rib, and the sticky toffee pudding.
I think I made the right choices. My friend got the seafood salad, but he didn’t like it.
The food was delicious, but was a touch pricey for the quality. Would recommend and would return again!
LOVED THE BEEF, VERY TENDER AND THE FRIED OKRAS WERE DELICIOUS.
THE ONLY THING I DIDN'T LIKE THAT DAY WERE THE EXTREMELY GREASY AND OVERCOOKED FRIES, THAT WAS VERY DISAPPOINTING COMPARED TO THE PHOTOS I SAW.
Very slow and impersonal service. Burger was outstanding.
Beautifully prepared meal. Everything was delicious!
Loved the food at Butter Or waiter Sergio was the BEST. The Beignets were to die for. I will be dreaming about those for a long time.
So I was here for restaurant week 2/2019 and my first visit. I always was a fan of Alex given her culinary acumen as a Chopped judge.
However, after tasting the seafood salad and roast beef and potato entrée I was very disappointed. The seafood salad was woefully lacking acid and salt. The entrée tasted like German hot potato salad with cold cuts.
I posted these same comment on Instagram. However, whoever manages her Instagram account immediately blocked me. Very sad that the truth cannot be heard.
I really think that when restaurants participate in Restuarant week, the menu should reflect some of the best items at the restaurant- or at least one or two of them. My prime rub had like 3 slivers of meet with lots of potatoes- not so good or interesting.
Everything wonderful. Smoked duck was phenomenal. Highly recommend.
The overall flavor and presentation of the food left a lot to be desired and did not meet our expectations. We were not impressed with the portion size for the cost and left the restaurant still hungry. However, the service was really good. Our waitress was great!
So amazing! Sensory experience with every plate! Went for restaurant week and will be back as a regular diner!! Veal Bacon is fabulous!!
Nice discovery in midtown. Restaurant Week menu was creative and showed an effort to move beyond the generic chicken breast. Very tasty as well.
