Butera's Restaurant of Smithtown Ratings and Reviews
It was our first time at Butera's and we really enjoyed the food. Made reservations the same day and were seated on time. The staff was very friendly. The food was tasty and the price was reasonable. Would definitely return and recommend Butera's to friends. 2 thumbs up.
The complimentary bread with hummus was creative and flavorful. The calamari was just the right texture. The risotto in the main dish was delicious, although the grilled shrimp was slightly tough. The pasta with shellfish was overall a great dish, though the two clams were likewise too tough (the mussels and scallops were great). Ambience and service were wonderful, and we would recommend this restaurant.
I asked my daughter for her 15th birthday where she would like to go to eat with a few of her friends and she chose Buteras. I left them and the staff treated her and all her friends well. The food as tasty as always. The only disappointment was knowing this was for her birthday, they didn’t sing her happy birthday. She has a great time none the less and we’ll come back.
Food was nice as usual. Buteras is always a great restaurant for special occasions. They changed the menu since the last time I was there. Many of the items my family would always order was removed from the menu but they did make the dishes for us anyway. Also, the family style dishes were not on the menu any longer but they did let us order those as well.
Our waiter was very attentive at the beginning of our meal. He was very nice, polite and service was great until we got our first course which was a salad. Our main meals came afterwards and we were totally ignored by everyone. The waiter, the manager and the bus servers. No one even looked at us. We had to ask for our own box to take home our leftovers and load the boxes ourselves with a fork. People around us came and went before we even got our check with we had to have the waiter called over. I gave him the certificate and it wasn't deducted which took even longer. The manager on that Sunday night seemed very efficient walking around looking at all the other tables but ours. We were even sitting in the middle of the room! Have to say the food was excellent. The waiter came by with the check and didn't ask if we wanted dessert or any more wine which I had finished by the end of the salad. I think we should be compensated for the annoying evening we had. It was a night out with my husband and I.
My overall impression is the kitchen is cutting corners. Ordered baked clams mostly dry bread crumbs, they should be embarrassed serving this. I ordered short rib and rigatoni for my dinner, it was dry not freshly prepared, tasted like Beef-a-Roni. Mix green salad was mix greens poured from a bag with I slice of Tomato and cucumber on the side some chopped onions on top with a few slices of carrots on top. There are much better choices for Italian in area.
The server noticed that I didn't eat my dinner and tried repeatedly to make it right, there was a manager/owner working the floor he did nothing to correct my situation.
I have been to this location several times and have always been happy. Yesterday my entree was so salty it was inedible (same for my husbands). They removed mussels from their appetizer menu (which by the way were amazing) and the waiter was unfriendly and inattentive (food came to the table some time before the serving utensils and dishes). Also I asked for a small dish of pasta and he just looked at me - I clarified that I would pay for it as a children's meal and he agreed to get it.
Haven't been to Butera's in some time and prior visits were always enjoyable. However, the quality of the food has diminished. My wife and I ordered a simple meal whiched included fried calamari that had little to no flavor. For my entree, I ordered penne a la vodka with grilled chicken and it was terrible. The sauce tasted nothing like vodka sauce and I confirmed with the server and on my check that it was ordered correctly. The meal was a big dissappointment to say the least...Sadly we won't be dining there again because of this experience.
