Butera's Restaurant of Sayville Ratings and Reviews
I have been to Butera's many times before and have found it to be consistent and a good experience. I don't typically go out on Valentine's Day and so perhaps it was the chaos of the day that led to this disaster. We made a reservation on OPEN table two weeks in advance to secure a table and upon arrival were ushered to a folding table set for two ( not three) where two of us had to straddle the table legs uncomfortably. We complained and were told told there was nothing else and settled in, then were later uprooted by a nice matre'd to another spot. we ordered the goat cheese salad which we have had before- we were three people and it came literally with two pieces of goat cheese on it-but it was good. There seemed to be a big lull in service when the kitchen seemed to back up and food was not coming out. Our waitress seemed to dodge our table as our wine was gone and still no entrees. When they finally arrived they were not even hot. We skipped dessert and asked for the leftovers so my 84 year old mom could have a few dinners from them. We had basa and eggplant parm. When she got home and opened them, they turned out to be someone else's food - shrimp and a pasta dish. She was turned off to say the least. Hoping this was an anomaly !
The main courses were excellent and the service superb. The wait for our table very minimal (1/4 glass of wine) and the atmosphere pleasant. We had a small table so the staff went out of their way to create space using a table cloth over a tray & try holder- made a world of difference. Only issue was we believe a mistake was made on the shrimp appetizer - shrimp cooked great but WAY TOO much salt- lip puckering amount. We believe mistakes can happen and will definitely go back again.
Reservation was made for a Saturday night at 5:30. Table was very cramped for a party of 6 people. We were seated across from the hostess station. It felt like they took a table for 4 and crammed 2 extra chairs in. When we asked to move to a different table, we were refused even though there were available tables at the time of the request. A misunderstanding by our waiter caused our party to basically eat in two shifts. It was a shame, because the food was excellent as always.
The menu was confusing, the waitress explained that everything is family style, large portions for two people, but for 60% of the price you could get a half portion. I didn't care for the food, the individual portion was small and ordering was very confusing. Rather than ordering something I may have enjoyed we all tried to order something that could be shared. I left hungry!
We love your restaurant. However this experience was not what we expected. We made a reservation for 6:15 and still waited over an hour for our table. We were served a round of drinks which we did appreciate. The service people were untrained. Examples: removed food that wasn't finished or left plates and glasses that were long done. Forgot bread and water, we had to keep asking...there was clearly no communication or teamwork among the servers. They were simply not well trained staff. Hope this helps as we do love your food.
We were disappointed by the dining room no tablecloths on tables. For family style very small portions. One of our dinners came out wrong you would of thought that they would of bought us a glass of wine for the inconvenience. We spent 130$ and we will not be back.
Made reservations and still had to wait about a half hour before being seated. The waiter was not very knowledgeable about any of their cocktails. The waiter didnt come back to refill our drinks for about 45 minutes. We were planning on having a number of drinks with dinner that evening but due to the amount of time it was taking for us to get our waiter to come back over we only had two drinks. The restaurant itself has the feel that you are in someones cramped basement. The tables are awkwardly placed all over the room in a cluttered manner and are way too small. The food was ok but definitely not worth the amount of time we wasted waiting. Needless to say, we will never be going back there again. Thumbs down.
We arrived for 7:15 reservations and were seated 5 minutes after We arrived. When we were seated, we were waiting about 10 minutes and requested water and bread. The water came over pretty quickly but the bread took another 20 minutes. It was rather busy, but it still took about 15 minutes for our waiter to come over to our table to get our order. After we place the order, the food started to come out relatively quickly. I could tell that our waiter was rather harried, but considering we were coming in for Restaurant Week it didn't surprise me that they were busy. The only issue I had is that we picked this restaurant based on restaurant week and we were informed that the promotion was over at 7 p.m. and our reservations were for 7:15 pm. I believe somebody could have come over after we questioned about the promotion and honored The promotion. The food was good and was reasonably priced.
