Butcher & Singer Ratings and Reviews
Great place for a quiet evening together. It was out first visit. We enjoyed the meal. I had the bone-in tenderloin. It was EXCELLENT! My wife had the 6oz tenderloin. She liked it but ate most of my steak. Our server was attentive. We'll definitely go back again.
Was our first time here- very beautiful room.. The service was excellent- seated right away, drinks came quickly. The steaks were all tasty. Nice side dishes- Dessert menu was limited- could add a few more exciting things though the baked alaska was good. The wine prices are terribly inflated here- especially the premier wines by the glass. Mark up left me with a not great feeling about returning.
I️ wanted to take my boyfriend for a luxury steak dinner for his birthday and could not be more pleased. The dining room was gorgeous - a very sexy atmosphere. The staff was attractive, professional, and discreet. Our server offered excellent opinions (when asked) on wine, sides, and dessert, and was knowledgeable about the different meat cuts available. He and the support staff (food runners, bussers) struck the perfect balance of enhancing our meal without being showy or intrusive. I️t was a great night.
Favorite spot in Philly! We had been here once before and were concerned it wouldn’t live up to what we remembered. We were wrong- it was just as good if not better!
We started the evening with cocktails. One off the menu and one on. They came out quickly and were well made.
We then ordered the crab cake which was full of crab meat! Not too much breading. This was paired with and apple slaw to keep it on the lighter side.
They have upped their bread game! Fluffy biscuits paired with a honey butter.
For dinner we split a perfectly cooked porterhouse for two, heavenly hashbrown potatoes (my favorite) and roasted cauliflower.
The waiter went above and beyond when helping us with wine.
We finished off the night with ginger snap ice cream and port.
It was a perfect meal and night out! We will be back!
Went there post matinee on a Sat. as a birthday celebration for my sister. Seated quickly with our reservation. Hot crumbly bisquits served almost immediately. We both ordered Filet mignon, creamed spinach and the Hash brown potatoes. All delicious. The birthday girl got her chocolate cake, a big slice! I picked the baked Alaska with a mountain of melt in your mouth meringue. We had a great time.
Oh man, went to dinner with my boyfriend for his birthday. And I must admit, everything was fantastic from the service to the food omg!! So delicious! I did have reservations and still ended up waiting about 20 minutes to a half hour on Thursday night they were a little busy.
This was our 2nd time to Butcher & Singer and it was just as enthralling as the first time. The service was top notch, the food, especially the steaks were luscious, juicy and tender, cooked to order. We will be returning, thank you for a great 30th Anniversary Dinner.
The picture is all of us relaxed and happy after a wonderful experience.
We had made a reservation for 8:30 but a table was not ready for us until 8:50, at first we were a little upset with the wait but then an employee with the restaurant came over and provided us with a free shrimp appetizer. She apologized for the wait and offered the appetizer right away since we were probably hungry. From there on the service was great and the food was amazing. Would highly recommend for a nice dinner.
We visited before seeing Phantom at the Academy of Music. The appetizers were delicious, especially the Tuna Tartare. We had the Porterhouse for Two - probably the best steak I’ve ever eaten! The sides & dessert were great, too.
Our server, Andrew, was attentive, professional & had a great sense of humor! All & Ll a wonderful experience.
This was the best meal my fiance and I have ever eaten. The biscuits were a perfect start to the meal. I had the filet mignon and my fiance had the porterhouse. Both so delicious, I can hardly describe how wonderful the meat tasted. The mashed potatoes were a perfect compliment to our meal and the key lime pie topped off the evening wonderfully. The cocktails and service were impeccable as well. Everything was so good, we were planning our next trip back while we were in the middle of eating our meals.
Went here for our Anniversary dinner and had a great time. Started with a couple of drinks and the bar and the bartender Shawn was great. Made my wife a drink that was not on the menu and few bartenders know how to make well and he nailed it. Sat down for dinner and we received complimentary glasses of champagne for our Anniversary. The waiters (Chris & Matt) were very attentive and friendly. Apps came out at a nice pace (Stone Crab then salad wedge) and at no time did we feel pressured to "hurry up". Ordered our main course (Filet Mignon & Delmonico) which were OK, my Delmonico was a bit under cooked, even though I ordered it as chef-recommended (medium), my wife's Filet was perfect. For dessert we ordered Butterscotch Sundae which was great and it also came with a complimentary Baked Alaska as an Anniversary treat. Overall, the experience was great ... Staff, from hostesses-to bar-to wait staff-to manager really know how to treat their customers.
Food and service were very good- however the cost was very high. Additionally the wine prices were insanely expensive. Really the costs of the wines were more than any kind of reasonable mark up- at a minimum it was three times the cost in a wine shop.
While it was a great place to visit I would not return or a second round!
An excellent steakhouse that is more low key and relaxed—not pushing you to order expensive items. The food and service were both great. The steaks were as good as we’ve had anywhere and the swordfish was outstanding. Will go again soon.
Great meal and outstanding service. The restaurant has great atmosphere and the architecture of the building - the 30 foot ceilings, columns and ornate woodwork make the restaurant a marvel of Philadelphia’s past and present.
My husband and I recently dined at Butcher and Singer on Friday October 27 and we wanted to let you know what a wonderful experience we had. The reason for our visit was to celebrate an anniversary/birthday. We had tickets to see a show at the Merriam Theatre and wanted to have dinner before. I was searching on Open Table and came across your establishment and made a reservation. Not knowing much about the restaurant, we were taken back by how lovely it was. We literally felt like we were transported back to the 30’s-40’s! Our server, Jeremy L. was absolutely fantastic! From beginning to end he met our expectations. Any question we had, he had the answer. Our food was excellent and absolutely delicious! We will definitely be back and already looking forward to it!
I had two business associates come into Philly and I thought I would make a return.
To note, Ricky our server was outstanding. On point the entire time. Started off with the small shellfish platter which was a perfect assortment of seafood as an app. We all made it simple and each had the Bone in Filet and all were cooked to perfection. Amazing.
Oh, have to mention that is a must not to pass on the Buttermilk Biscuits topped with the table side butter . Outstanding dinner and will be back soon..
It was our wedding anniversary and due to our schedules needed to dine out a day or so ahead. It was a “day of” change in plans but we were able to get an early reservation via OpenTable. Dinner was great. We both had steak. Cocktails and appetizers were also excellent. Took our time enjoying each other’s company on our special dinner. Service was excellent.
Everything about this place is fantastic. The food was spectacular (even the biscuits), the venue was interesting and fun and the staff was great. They have good selection of foods and alcohol. I would recommend to anyone that wanted a nice meal. Also, I would recommend making a reservation.
