Burwell's Stone Fire Grill Ratings and Reviews
We went for restaurant week. We were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and the food. I tried a fillet it was delicious and tender. My partner tried the fried chicken. Excellent! They have a really nice bar with plenty of seating. I highly recommend trying Burwells. We will be back.
Burwell's has been a place that we make sure to visit every time we are in Charleston. It is a little off the beaten path and not quite as busy as other restaurants in Charleston but that doesn't say anything about it. Burwell's offers a tremendous menu of steak options that are all phenomenal. There are fish dishes as well. The sides are family style and great for sharing! The wait staff is always incredibly attentive and helpful when deciding what to choose from the menu. If you want a great steak, great drinks, and wonderful service, you NEED to go to Burwell's.
Usually I have a hard time rating places specifically say within the top 5. Burwell’s ... THE best steak I have ever had, anywhere. Had the Maygu Hangar Steak (also got to sample the Maygu Flat Iron and the Filet with mushroom demi glaze). I don’t know if I have ever had the chance to use the word decadent, but when I think back to flavor of this steak, that’s the only word that comes to mind.
Rounded out the meal with the Charleston S’more. This dessert was creamy and rich with peanut butter and chocolate.
Came here on our second night in Charleston. There was only one other table occupied which I thought was strange considering the great reviews.
Our meal and experience was superb. Oysters were fresh. Deviled eggs were good and the pork wings were amazing. My little one had a ceasar salad which was crisp and fresh. Her burger was a bit on the dry side. She ended up sharing some of our New York strip which was delicious. Brussel sprouts were incredible. Mac and cheese were good and mash potato was OK.
Overall experience was great and I’d go back next time in Charleston without hesitation. Jeremy, our waiter was very attentive and informative. Thank you.
Burwell’s is fabulous (1st visit)! Our evening New Year’s Eve evening dinner before theater reservations started out grandly by being seated at a table per my advance request. The waiter arrived quickly and was very informative, outlined the specials, and made great suggestions. He also made a recommendation regarding the ala’ carte veggie portion size, and he was spot on in terms of which ones would be large enough to share, etc. Our drinks and appetizer arrived very quickly. The waiter had recommended the deviled eggs. Oh my gosh…. A little bit of heaven! Will definitely order them again. The food was also fantastic. The ONLY item that detracted from the experience was my wife’s steak. We had both ordered the filet mignon medium, and I confirmed with the waiter while ordering this would be a warm pink center. My steak arrived PERFECTLY cooked. My wife’s steak however was definitely rare to medium rare; the steaks are very thick, so rare represented a very thick portion of bloody meat. I informed the waiter and he immediately took my wife’s plate with the steak away, along with some of the veggies my wife had spooned onto her plate. The steak returned fairly quickly, but without her vacationing veggies on her plate. I mentioned this to the person who brought her steak (not our waiter), plus mentioned that by now the delicious shareable French Fries had grown cooler. He immediately brought back a new veggie plate plus a new plate of French fries (the fries were to die for they were so good!). Burwell’s definitely follows the rule, “We strive to make the customer happy”. It was certainly refreshing to indicate the item we were not happy with and it was taken care quickly. I am giving the restaurant four stars versus five due to the steak; if it had not been for this, this would have been the PERFECT dining experience: I will definitely be returning to this restaurant. With Burwell’s doing everything right, I can certainly excuse one mistake.
Very expensive meal. Steaks were undercooked. Even after we were warned by people leaving the restaurant as we were entering. The ribeye had a lot of gristle......$52 steak. Ouch. Filets were tender but waaay undercooked. The deviled egg appetizer were fantastic along with the Caesar salad. Both were outstanding.
We have so many favorite dining spots in Charleston, but decided to try something new...Burwell's Stone Grill. What a disappointment. Felt like a tourist trap rip off. From the decor and pleasant reception we expected a nice dinner. The prices for very ordinary food are obscene. The smallest steak was $46. It was a small, thin strip steak. Prepared well, as ordered but ordinary. Prices go up for other cut to $90. The mini strip steak was presented on a large plate with nothing to accompany it. No presentation at all. The Caesar salad was a disgrace, broken lettuce soaked in Ceasar dressing, no cheese, no anchovies, no croutons, nothing but a few strips of tastless chips. $9 for that small ceasar salad. The desert was awful. Supposed to be baked in house, Apple Cake. It was sweet, mostly icing carrot cake tasting with microscopic chunks of apple. A joke. Awful...awful rip off. Don't bother wasting your money. There is so much fine dining in Charleston at that price range where you can have an excellent, memorable dinner.
So I have to admit... I love Burwells. This has been our go to for years and this we the first time that I walked out thinking.... “i don’t know that I got my money’s worth... I should have gone to Husk for that price... “I have been in this place a dozen times and don’t remember the being quite that expensive. Don’t get me wrong I have never walked in expecting to pay what I would pay at a chain steakhouse but I don’t recall ever dropping a really nice car payment for dinner here...
With that being said the deviled eggs were great, service was fantastic. Steak was pretty good (not the best I have had here). The bartender made a really good Old Fashioned as well.
Great first visit! Had a family dinner and really loved this place. Our waitress, Meg, was absolutely wonderful. We ordered the hot stone appetizer which was really fun! (Sear your own steak!) My mom ordered short rib and then found out the restaurant just sold their last order a few minutes earlier; though a little disappointing the manager came over to personally apologize and he made sure she got the sides and some other things that came with the short rib on her new dish, which she really appreciated. The cocktails were also great and everyone loved their meals. We’ll definitely go back.
We had a nice meal and we all had steaks. They were just ok, not stand out in anyway. The service was good, however very noisy there. We had four sides. Mashed potatoes, mushrooms, fries and the crab rice. The mashed potatoes had zero flavor and either did the rice. Sadly the fries were the stand out side dish. I honestly
Try don’t know how this compares to other steak houses in the area, but it’s not worth the price compared to others I have had.
Came across Burwell’s while looking for a place for our annual Christmas Eve dinner. Made the reservation on a hunch. Glad we did. Everyone enjoyed the food and the service was excellent! Burwell’s is now our go to restaurant In Charleston for all special occasions.
This was my 1st time eating at Burwells. The drinks were awesome, and the meet was delicious. However, it seemed to take too long. When our server came, we tried to order apps (we were starving), but he told us he has a table of 20 upstairs, and he will get our order when he comes back (10 min later). We couldn't even order our drinks, so we awkwardly drank our provided water and waited for him to come back to take our order. We ordered the lamb, hummus, pita.. The lamb was perfect and the best. The hummus - not true hummus. The pita was okay. Later, when our steaks came, they had precut his medium steak (which wasn't asked for). My filet was good. I was kinda shocked no butter/sauce or topping was offered. Anyways, our food was good! The service - not so much. Both my water and drink were empty for the main meal and wasn't refilled until the check came. The manager even came..
I'm sure I'll go back and give it another go, but for the money, I shouldn't have to ask for a refill or be told I can't order my app yet..
While our overall experience was excellent, I would recommend that the hostess work on greeting customers by looking them in the eye and acknowledging their presence instead of having her face buried in the computer screen trying to locate our table. It took a waitress (who wasn't even working in our section) to finally greet us properly and seat us at our table. Very poor experience with the hostess. Otherwise, food was excellent, the service from our waitress was great and the overall atmosphere was very pleasant. Just started off on a very bad note with the rude hostess.
We dined with Burwells for the first time on Saturday evening. Cannot say enough good things about the entire experience from the food to the server, Alan. Recently moved to the area and had our first special occasion meal at Halls. Going forward this will be our go to special occasion place, or if Ww just want a great steak!
A place for outstanding steaks and great service. Someone in our party asked for something that they did not have. A little while later our waitress brought it over to our table and informed us one of the owners had gone to another restaurant close by to get the item. That is SERVICE! We have been to this restaurant before while visiting Charleston and will go back again whenever we are in town.
My wife and I went here for our anniversary in Charleston,SC. It had good reviews on several sites, so we gave it a shot. The wait staff was very kind and knowledgeable of their menu. They sat us off to the side on the second floor, which we both liked and made us feel like it was more private. Our waitress was Meg and it was her second night there and she impressed me aswell with knowledge of their menu. We both had alcoholic beverages with our meals and they poured them well at the bar, which is great if u ask me! We both got steaks, since that was their specialty there. And they also brought us a surprise and free desert which was very delicious might I add. I recommend if you want an awesome steak to visit this place!
Fiancé and I split the Wagyu Rock Candy appetizer and the Wagyu Filet Mignon and a couple sides and one dessert. Plenty of food for 2 people. Spend the extra $ for Wagyu; both dishes were amazing! The waiter was great at explaining the different ratings of the meat and made good recommendations for sauce (peppercorn sauce was great) and dessert (s’mores were to die for). We would return and have the exact same meal.
