Burwell's Stone Fire Grill Ratings and Reviews
Great food and service was impeccable!! Only problems were the noise level, my wife and I had to yell at each other across the table. The other was the bathrooms could be a little cleaner for this type of restaurant. Wine list was great with a great price range for all types of wine and cocktails were great!! I feel this is more of a casual kind of place and would be good for groups of people but as far as a romantic date this is not you place. The steaks are next level good!!
A great find! I've never had the opportunity to dine at Burwell's and finally tried them out this past weekend. It might seem strange for someone that doesn't eat beef to love this place but the seafood options were fantastic! I had the flounder dish, which was amazing, and my husband had the Diver Scallops, which he said were very good. I highly recommend the Tuna Wontons for an appetizer! Can't wait for our next visit!
This wasn’t our first time, but this occasion was for Valentine’s Day 2018. The Wagyu steak is amazing! The deviled eggs are amazing! The cheese cake is amazing! The servers were very knowledgeable about the menu and though we like to explore different restaurants, I think we will revisit soon.
We tried Burwells for the first time and were very pleasantly surprised. I had the Wagyu hanger steak which was very tasty and tender (didn't really need a knife to cut ) and cooked to perfection. My husband also enjoyed his steak. The deviled eggs were to die for! A must try if you are going.. Service was attentive and knowledgeable. We would definitely go again.
Burwells is an extraordinary steak in a sea of ordinary options when it comes to beef. The WAGYU beef is "cultivated" for this restaurant and is simply one of the best steaks I've ever had. The initial "smoke" in the steak took me by surprise as it is fairly strongly smoked (wood fired), but after the initial shock, I enjoyed the texture and flavors very much. The sides were amazing; roasted brussels sprouts, mixed vegetables and mac and cheese. If you want the most tender piece of beef (there are several selections!) outstanding service, and nice wine list, GO to Burwells! You will not be disappointed. Only the pricing caused me to give the restaurant an overall (very good) instead of outstanding. Then again, I'm not sure there is another restaurant in Charleston that serves Wagyu (it's a cross of KOBE and ANGUS, as I understand it).
Had to wait 15 minutes after arriving despite a reservation. The hostess kept saying she had to check with our server before we could be seated. I’ve never had that happen before.
Seating is limited, but it was incredibly loud. There was even a guy in the back yelling across to people at other tables.
The food was alright, but definitely not worth the price. Our original reservation was for Ruth’s Chris and we thought we’d rather go to a local place. We should have stuck with the original plan. It truthfully wasn’t much better than Longhorn.
We came for my birthday and it was amazing as usual. A little disappointed they had taken off the menu a few favorite items but still stellar choices. Definitely do the hot rock!! Also, when you go be sure to ask for Chandler. She is the best server and will make any occasion feel special.
Food was AMAZING! I went all out for the wagyu Filet ($68) and it was incredible. My mother had the hanger steak. Mac n cheese and the Brussels sprouts were very good as well. Decent wine list with a good variety. Prices were standard for this kind of restaurant.
We waited unusually long for our tuna wonton appetizer. But when our dinner came instead I guess the waiter just forgot to order for us. The GOLD filet wasnt anything spectacular for the price. I also had to ask the waiter for our mashed potatoes which he forgot. Im sorry but at those prices everything should be automatic as far as service goes. My grouper was over seasoned with salt on top. We love a good chocolate dessert but they didnt have one that night. This was our second choice to Halls- oh well.
Our server was awesome. The food outstanding. But it was very loud we were seated 30 minutes after our reservation time and then waited over an hour to get our food. We didn't complain because it was busy, but the manager comped us a round of drink because "it took to long" We will go back but maybe a less busy time/day. we ended up not eating until 10pm and we had our kids so very late for them.
We came here as a second choice when the restaurant we planned to go to was booked solid. However, this would definitely be our first choice for our next visit to Charleston. My husband had the wagyu hangar steak and said it was the best steak he has ever had. The scallops were delicious, as well as the brussels sprouts. The banana pudding was amazing, and included “Happy Anniversary” written in chocolate. Our server was fun and made great suggestions. We look forward to coming back!
Awesome food and great service! The filet that I ordered was cooked to perfection! The only negative thing that we experienced was the noise level. We were seated on the main level which was very close to the bar area and it was very noisy. Might have been quieter upstairs. Other than the noise, it was a great dining experience.
Third time’s a charm! But so were times 1 & 2!
We ended up here for a second time during restaurant week because we liked it so much. We wanted to try some new restaurants this week, but after eating at Bay Street Biergarten, we decided to go somewhere we know we liked.
Burwell’s has a good happy hour with food. You can get a Mango Mule (delicious) and a Wagyu steak and cheese sandwich for $15!
The regular menu is awesome as well. It’s obvious that careful prep is done and each steak is made with pride. I have seen other reviews saying it’s expensive, but not at all when compared to other top-tier steak houses. Pretty obvious to me that those who think it’s expensive should go back to Applebee’s because Burwell’s prices are good.
I love that the kitchen is visible to the dining room. Stacks of hardwood waiting to grace the grill can be seen from the front door. Their reservations have been on time all 3 times we’ve been there.
Burwell’s has officially become our “go to” place when we want to go out but aren’t sure where because it has been GREAT every time. Sometimes you just want to go where you KNOW you’ll be happy. There are lots of wonderful restaurants in Charleston, Burwell’s should be proud to be among the best of the best here.
