Went for the first time for our anniversary dinner and had the best time. Service was great, food was delicious and they gave us a dessert to celebrate. Will be back next time we’re in Charleston!
This is my third time at Burwells and probably my last. My wife and I have made it our anniversary tradition but can’t justify the price value any longer. With similar if not more expensive pricing than Halls Chop House they can’t compete with price service and quality.
Great find! Steak was awesome! They serve Snake River Farms meat which is our favorite!!! Service was on point. We’ll be back.
The Wine list was wrong and we got the wrong year of the wine. The waiter failed on so many things. Food was OK but for the price expected much better.
Our server Will was fabulous and so was our dinner. We were celebrating my husbands Birthday and this was our first visit. We had the famous deviled eggs for our appetizer, soooo good. My husband then ordered the Rib Eye and I had the Wagyu Beef Hanger Steak. Cooked to absolute perfection. Oh my, so delish!
For my husbands Birthday dessert we had a lovely Creme Brûlée.
Afterwards we sat at the bar for a good Bourbon and life was good.
Excellent evening and we shall return.
We were in Charleston visiting, the hotel recommended this places. Best steak I ever had.
Excellent food and atmosphere. What I really liked was the fact that their servers are knowledgeable about their product. They know the food, where it came from and how to best direct their customer's tastes. Particularly impressed that our server did not have to call over a sommelier for pairing recommendations. All in all, well done.
First time there. Will be back next time in Charleston.
A modern, lively atmosphere combined with delicious food and excellent service made for a great experience. We will be back!
Best steak I’ve ever had! Great drink & wine selections with one of a kind Charleston ambiance. Highly recommend.
Great meal, loved the steak appetizer , cool to use a lava rock to cook it. Three entrees, duck, scallops and steak all excellent. Very good wine selection, and a manager who knows the wines well.
We will have to go back again.
Wonderful food and great service!
This place is amazing. Our waiter couldn’t have been better and the food was ridiculously good — best steak I’ve ever had. And the Wagyu on the hot lava stone appetizer is a MUST. It melts in your mouth. Incredible. They even surprised us with a dessert for our anniversary. So nice!! We’ll definitely be back!
My wife and I both had excellent meals. She had scallops with pumpkin risotto and I had the filet with shrimp and asparagus. Both were prepared to perfection and delicious. My steak and shrimp had a wonderful smokey flavor which was exactly what I was hoping for and our waitress was such a pleasure to talk to. It was an exquisite evening out.
Excellent service and excellent food. A little expensive but great for a special occasion.
Food was awesome will definitely come back the rock technique was very different my boyfriend really enjoyed his birthday ❤️
Wagu Stone and hanger steak were great!
Found this gem while looking through open table and finding everything was booked on a Saturday around 8pm. Upon arrival the assistant manager seated us and was very courteous.. our waiter Megan was amazing from start to finish.. explaining the menu, preferred appetizers as well as the drink menu. We had wedge salad to start with, a couple of drinks off of the drink menu, filets with scallops and shared mashed potatoes and asparagus. The wedge salads were delicious, with plenty of blue cheese.. the Filets were cooked perfectly, had a charred rich taste to them (you can see the wood fire grill clearly from most any table), and the sides were amazing.. possibly the best mashed potatoes I've ever had plus thick meaty asparagus. Everything was delicious and satisfying and just as good as I've had at Halls and Ruth's Chris. The only negatives were that I asked for one of the empty booths for us two, and I was shown an odd corner table/as if the booths were reserved, but we saw both booths never get seated the entire time we were eating. Perhaps they were saving them for a larger party, but a booth would have made this outstanding as the corner seating was awkward. The scallops were amazing, but for 14$, there were just two of them.. other chop houses will offer 3 or 4 as the standard. The asparagus came in a dish that was more than plenty for two people but the mashed potatoes were in a tiny ramekin that didn't really serve two. Next visit we will get two orders of mashed potatoes. Most chop house sides are gigantic, I usually cant finish all of the shareable sides, but this was a very small portion. Otherwise, this was an unforgettable dining experience and we will be back!
OUTSTANDING! Delicious ribeye, tender scallops, and fantastic Brussels sprouts! Peter and team made it fun, too. We will be back next time we are in town!
It was good just a bit pricy for what it is.
Absolutely fantastic from start to finish!
Teresa was a great waitress- very personable and attentive.
We were looking forward to a nice night at the Burwell’s, but it was not a good experience. As steakhouses go...probably one of the worst. Burnt, dry, and bad oysters, raw steak, rushed service and quite loud. In a city where culinary delights are abound, this is one location to scratch off your list.
Absolutely amazing. GREAT food and atmosphere. Bennett was the best server we’ve ever had! Definitely will be back again and next time we’ll bring friends!
Fabulous, no other words necessary, was worth the 400 mile journey
The 700 degree stone with Waygu beef is THE ABSOLUTE BEST! Delicious, mouthwatering, melt like butter bite size treasures. Fun to cook yourself!
Everything was wonderful. Very very good food, service and accounted one in our party with food allergies. The only issue was it was quite noisy and way too dark to read the menu.
Absolutely excellent from start to finish! Best device, fresh delicious food and one of the best steaks I have ever had. Outstanding!!!
The service was beyond expectations. The week link in the entire meal was the steak. A very bland taste with no flavor.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal for the end of Charleston Restaurant week! The food was expertly prepared and our server Dennis was great. We will be back!
Great food and service. Just a bit loud. It was hard to have a conversation at our table.
Love Burwell’s! See people walk by the front door, check menu and keep walking down towards East Bay. They just missed it! Should have come in! So fun and yummy! Come in and meet the friendly crew and enjoy what may be your best meal downtown!
Amazing experience!!!! We will definitely be back!!!!
Hot rock Wagyu steak was perfect. Fun to cook at your own table for a few seconds. It was restaurant week so I had a 3 course dinner with deviled eggs as an appetizer, beef tenderloin with Brussels sprouts and then the cream brûlée for dessert. Great price for the restaurant week deals. Husband and friends had a NY strip steak. Both said it wasn’t a great cut of meat. We let the chef know and he agreed it should have been cut better. Offered us free dessert but since we were already getting one with my meal we declined.
Intimate, ate in a booth with 6 people, would have preferred a table. Food was very good, oysters Rockefeller was only so, so. Steak was excellent as well as the scallops. The young lady that was our server was amazing, so professional yet a great sense of humor!! Will go back next time in town.
Everything was wonderful except for duck....sadly but always enjoy this restaurant ! Service excellent as always and friendly !!!!
This was not a good experience. We took our daughter to celebrate her 18th birthday and had reservations. We were taken upstairs where they had not turned on the AC because they had not expected to seat people upstairs. Needless to say, it was too hot. People were sweating and fanning themselves. We asked to move so they moved us to the back room where is was bearable. However, the lights in this section were spotlights and flickered on and off. The staff tried to adjust them for our neighbor and shined them directly on us. They could not fix the flickering lights. Luckily they stopped on their own after about 10 minutes.
I ordered the restaurant week prefix menu - big mistake. The flounder was thin, overcooked, and fishy. I also got the caprese salad and there was literally one tablespoon of mozzarella (not exaggerating) and average tomatoes. The dessert my daughter we ordered was inedible. It was supposed to be a chocolate cupcake, however there was no chocolate. It was some sort of dense vanilla with a raspberry filling. To top it all off, the waitress would disappear and not come back for long periods. I had to ask her 3 times for salt. The only reason I did not give this place all poor ratings is that my husband and daughter said their steak was good.
We have been coming to Charleston for many years and this was hands down the worst meal and experience. I think it is a tourist trap and not a place for repeat business.
Food and Service was great! This restaurant is like a hidden gem in Charleston.
We came out to Burwells to celebrate my sons birthday. Steak was his choice of cuisine and we wanted it to be a special experience. We loved cooking the appetizer in our hot stone and the meat was incredible. Melted in your mouth and worth every penny. Overall the value was great considering it was four of us. The ambience was exactly what we wanted, quiet and the wait staff was very attentive. This was the weekend after hurricane Dorian so not sure if it’s always that way but we were grateful that it worked out!
I wouldn’t return, not really worth the money.
