We got there early and sat upstairs at the bar and had excellent service. Drinks and appetizers were very good. Came down to dinner and the server was awesome, very kind and knowledgeable. Overall everything was very good and we will defiantly be back.
Apps were very tasty. Huge delay between apps and main course - 50 minutes. Bison special did not taste good at all - way too fatty - and Bison is normally lean. Filet Mignon and Waygu beef were good. Server was not good and did not bring water enough. Manager stopped by towards the end of our main course and asked if everything was good - we said that the main course took way too long to arrive. He said he would look into it right away but then never returned. Very expensive main course dishes for this bad level of service and food quality. We will not be returning.
This place is amazing!! Happy hour makes it that much better. A great experience and the bartender is a class act.
Dinner at Burwell’s was a bit of a mixed experience. The food was really excellent. We had the deviled egg appetizer which was excellent. I had the chefs steak which was a great mix of sauces and vegetables and the steak was cooked perfectly. My husband had the Wagyu which again was excellent and perfectly cooked. Our server had a few missteps though - he did not
Great atmosphere. Service was outstanding. Food was well prepared and good portions. Would highly recommend.
Burwell's is one of the best restaurants I have dined at in Charleston. The tabletop hot rock to cook our Wagyu Steak appetizer was fun and delicious. Our server Meg had suggested it and she had our attention the remainder of the meal. We followed her lead on our entrees and the entire experience was 5 stars! Thank you to Meg and the entire staff for a great dinning experience.
We went here for our anniversary. At the end of our meal the waitress asked if we would like a cream brûlée on them for our anniversary. When I told her we both didn’t care for that she was like ok well here is your check if you don’t want anything else. After spending $200 on dinner I just thought that is the customer service I am used to at other high quality restaurants inCharleston
Went here after our son’s college graduation. Service was very good - food was good and atmosphere nice. We dined upstairs ( steps involved) and had a great waiter. We would definitely return it in the area.
Waitress was amazing!!! Food and atmosphere was and has always been great there.
Awesome experience at Burwell’s for our anniversary! Thank you for making our dinner outstanding
The only negative comment I would pass along, is that the bar was out of ingredients for one of their "signature cocktails" that our guest ordered, and the vintage wine we ordered was not the year indicated on the wine list. Otherwise, great food, service and atmosphere.
The beef and the arugula salad were very good as was the French Onion Soup. The rest of the food was disappointing. Service was good.
Always a 10!
We love this place. Thanks John and Cathy for a fabulous evening. We appreciate you. We will be back.
We got off to a rocky start - was seated at our table on time (for the four of us), but then for approximately 15 minutes, we were ignored. Wait staff walking by, but no one to provide even glasses of water! Finally, I approached the manager (who had seated us) - Don, by name, and asked that someone (anyone!) please wait on our table. Turned out to be a mixup with the wait staff; which Don proceeded to take care of post haste! In addition, Don was kind enough to offer us some deviled eggs and sirloin tips .... on the house! Which was an incredibly nice gesture — we had told our waiter we understood about the mix up - but our waiter (apologies, I don’t recall his name) and Don, could not have been nicer! They really didn’t have to go out of their way to give us excellent service...but they did! The food was excellent, by the way....we will be back!!!! All in all, it’s a great steak house (with lots of other food, for anyone who doesn’t want meat....). Most of us chose non-meat entrees —- they were delicious! I definitely recommend Burwell’s!
so friendly and the bartender JOJO is the best- love the whole crew- thanks for a great evening-
Based on the reviews, I expected more. The pasta with shrimp and mussels was very good, however the pasta was under cooked. It didn’t even make it to El Dente. The medium filet was closer to medium well. Still tender but over cooked for our liking. The service was very good, but we felt a bit rushed. We understand that this is a busy tourist area, however I live in NYC, and don’t get pushed through this quickly in most restaurants of this type.
This place is amazing! Bennett our server was fantastic, very engaging, super knowledgeable of the menu and was a great compliment to the outstanding food!!! I’d recommend trying the lamb as a starter and then any of the other dishes were amazing. Kudos to the chef! We will definitely be back.
Very pleasant and nice service but it was terribly slow. We sat at 7:58 pm and got our main entrees at 9:39 pm. Just really slow and didn’t see our server that much. But she was knowledgeable and nice
Food was average and a little over priced. Nice location. Date night for my wife and I are hard to come by so we’d choose another restaurant next time.
Definitely will be back! Food and service were fabulous!
Vacation dinner with family
Family was in town visiting from Wyoming. Most of the food was very good! There was a seafood pasta dish ordered, and while the flavor was good, the pasta was very sticky and not great! Our server was very friendly, but took awhile for her to get drinks from the bar. Appetizers came out quickly, but we sat for an hour waiting on entrees to arrive. Overall, food was great, drinks were plenty, and service was not great.
We were enticed into trying the happy hour by one of their employees. Somewhat misleading in that only certain drinks were discounted, which wasn't explained by the server until the bill showed up. He did make an adjustment when we complained, and the mussels were very good (and inexpensive).
Then we went downstairs to eat, only to discover that the online menu did not reflect what was actually being served. The server claimed that was because the chef "always prepares fresh food so the menu changes." Hmm, they must run up quite a printing bill for the constantly changing menus. The host claimed it was because they changed the menu and hadn't updated the website yet. What, you can print new menus but not update the website?
Having said that, the food was very good, although expensive. I had the stone grilled tenderloin appetizer, and it was wonderful, supposedly a cut above prime beef.
Service was slow, slow, and the place was nearly empty on a Sunday night.
Had the best meal we’ve had in a long time. Defiantly suggest. Have made it my new bar spot to.. not to expensive and very quant.
My wife and I really enjoyed our dinning experience. The food was perfect as well as delicious. The staff did a wonder job of explaining the menu as well as options. We look forward to dining at Burwell’s again.
We were beyond impressed with the service we received and the excellent food!
Fantastic all around. The only thing better than the service was the food. Fantastic all around
Food was amazing! The waygu appetizer on the hot stone was delicious. Bennett was awesome. He explained the menu and offered suggestions. We will definitely be back.
Great place for steaks, you have to try the Charleston S'mores.
This is gem amongst Charleston restaurants, we always have a great experience and highly recommend dining here.
Food isn't nearly as good as it used to be as the menu is much more limited. They were out of two bottles of wine that we ordered as well as a tequila we ordered. It took upwards of 15 minutes to get drinks and everyone's steak was undercooked (the mediums were medium rare and my medium rare steak was rare - bad). Service added insult to injury, we hardly saw our server and were interrupted when she finally came back around. I will not be going back for some time now.
I’m a huge fan of Burwells and try to eat there at least every two weeks although recently it’s more like once a month. But that should tell you all you need to know. My future father in law /major foodie was in town so I had to bring him. He was in town for 5 days and our goal was to eat at as many places as possible, and to no surprise, Burwells was his overall favorite.
This restaurant concept changed since this last time I dine here, which was disappointing. However, it still looked like a fun atmosphere with good steaks. Our server was fairly new, which led to most of our issues: lack of attentiveness and follow up. The entrees came out very quickly; too quickly because one of the steaks wasn't cooked correctly. The manager corrected the situation, but it made for a disappointing experience.
great food with great friends. The rooftop bar was also enjoyable as we got to the restaurant early..
Great food! Will definitely be back!
Our server Will was amazing! The ceviche and chocolate lava cake are a must.
Great service, wonderful atmosphere! Food was amazing
Outstanding service and exceptional meal. I've visited more than once and this time it was even better.
Food was great! Service from Meg was first-rate! I heartily recommend Burwell's for that special night out.
Pricey but amazing. We went to celebrate a birthday. We did the “hot rocks” thing, one with lamb, one steak. Both delicious but vervlittle actual food, makes a good appetizer or could be a meal for one. Fun to cook it on the hot lava rock.
After that we had or actual meal ( I had the filet mignon) and the steaks were total perfection with amazing sides.
The service was great as you would expect.
Desserts were delicious also.
Overall a bit pricey for an everyday meal but wonderful for any sort of special night. I would definitely recommend!
