Burger and Barrel Ratings and Reviews
I was looking forward to the bash burger as the restaurant boasts it winning 6x best burger in NYC. Flavors were great but I wish there was more texture - adding lettuce/tomato would have brought it to the next level - at least for my tastes. The fries were not great - they tasted a bit stale but maybe my table got a bad batch.
The ambiance and music was nice but it was rather dark - I couldn’t read the menu without the table candle or cell flashlight. Service was great, my water glass never went empty and the staff was very kind.
What an off night! The four of us made reservations for dinner at 8:15 this past Saturday. Service was really slow, communication was poor (we had three different people ask us if we wanted drinks, and then our drinks took 20 minutes to arrive and were incorrect when they did) and everything seemed to take longer than it should. Side dishes were all delicious- loved the tater tots, brussels sprouts and grilled broccoli- but their award-winning burger and fries were delivered cold, and my fiancé couldn't taste any evidence of bacon jam on his burger. We would not return.
The service was terrible. It was not crowded yet we did not see our waitress for 40 minutes. We had finished our drinks by the time the appetizer arrived, and did not see the waitress or have another drink until we were almost done with entree. At some point, someone in a suit, presumably the manager, asked if we needed anything. We ordered another beer, it never came.
So although the service was terrible, the burger was awesome.
This is basically a corner bistro type of place with the basics chicken/ fish and of course their burgers, while they claim they are award winning that remains to be seen. The wine list is very very expensive for a corner bistro the cheapest red wine is $52 and that’s on TAP - it was dreadful. Next cheapest $62. Outrageousness!!!
The food was delicious, but I was disappointed in their cocktails. I would recommend this restaurant for the meal only and wish I had stuck to the beer selections. Also, this was the only restaurant that we went to this week that did not acknowledge my Mom's 70th birthday, which we told them we were in town celebrating. So although the food was fantastic, I would not recommend for a special occasion.
The food was excellent; however I was unimpressed by the wait staff. We had reservations for 8pm on a Sunday and there were very few people in the restaurant. Regardless it felt as though we were forgotten by everyone who worked there. We never really had one person waiting on us making the experience very disjointed. The food makes up for that, but it was still frustrating.
This is a great restaurant in SoHo for those looking for some good meat! Chicken, burgers, fish, etc - pretty much all with a fun and flavorful twist. I was bummed that the ribs that read so well on the menu were not available due to the brunch crush, but I defaulted to a burger and it was solid. A group of six all ate, drank, and gave it a thumbs up!
Fun, casual spot for great eats! You know you should get an award winning burger, but it's hard to decide because so much of it looks awesome. We recognized Chef/Owner Josh Capon and he was incredibly gracious to take a picture and then personally serve us our appetizers! Highly recommend!
Went there since it was showcased on food network with Michael Symon.
Service just fair as we had to wait for over 20 mom for our drinks and still they screwed up the order.
The rock shrimp were delicious, burgers outstanding but the French fries were soggy and not hot and the onion rings were tasteless and under cooked.
Would not go back.
Called ahead to reserve the prime rib and it was among the best we’ve had in a long time. Our server wasn’t very attentive and served us the wrong bottle of wine which she didn’t open at the table and allow us to taste first. We enjoyed it nonetheless. The chocolate cake is sinfully good.
As a longtime burger connoisseur and professional drinker of spirits I think that this downtown restaurant is at the apex of pleasurable eating and drinking. Please note that the menu is varied with many wonderful choices but I select one of their several inventive burgers most of the time. When I don't I still rave about the food at Burger and Barrel.
Dimly lit establishment with great doors which allow for allot of fresh air; great date spot. The burger was tasty but bun was a little large ( hard to bite into). A little disappointed that onion rings and fries don't come with the burger, as mentioned in an interview with the chef/oener. The bbq ribs were very good. Would return!
