Buona Sera Ratings and Reviews
Our party of three ordered three different dishes and we were all happy with our choices. My brother ordered the veal saltimbocca and ate every bit of it. My husband had the penne pasta carbonara the pasta was cooked al dente and the sauce was very flavorful, as was the sauce on my filetto gorgonzola. The portions were very generous and the service was friendly and helpful. The city of Champlin is lucky to have such a great original restaurant, not a chain, in their midst.
We've dined here several times before and have never been disappointed. Food is always fabulous and tasty. Everyone from the hostess to our waitress were exceptionally friendly and smiling!! The owner ever was taking the time to personally visit tables to ask about the food!! Ambience is romantic and cozy!! By far, one of our favorite italian restaurants and most definitely one of the reasons you'll need a reservation.
Good food and service. Although the restaurant is a bit small inside (it's in a house), it's nicely decorated and has that neighborhood feel to it. Restaurant is also a sister to Luna Rossa in Stillwater. Prices are slightly on the high side for Italian restaurants, but the portion sizes are big - half of my spaghetti came home with me.
Our fourth time there - will definitely go again. It is a great neighborhood restaurant. The ambiance gives the feel of a neighborhood place in an Italian village. Menu variety very good. Great place for special occasions. Not much room in entry/bar area, but is not an issue when nice outside.
This place is fantastic. One of the best meals my wife and I have ever had. Tilapia was done perfectly. Tortellini sauce was something very special. I wish I could have had a gallon of the seafood chowder. And if you like appetizers, make sure you order the walleye cakes. You get 2 large cakes per order but will want 6 more. If you haven't been there you are missing a very special place. The wine we ordered was very cold and really good.
Parking is bad. No spots open at 8:15 on a Saturday night, when asked for suggestions they suggested the street, which is not possible because of traffic laws. It is loud. I knew this was the case but seriously, don't go here if you want to have a nice quiet conversation with your dinner date. Ordered the stuffed mushrooms (a past favorite of mine there) and it came out looking like a plate of lasagna. The recipe had clearly changed and wasn't nearly as good as it used to be. Plus the marinara sauce and all that cheese really took away from the flavor of the mushrooms and seasoning. The Salmon Al Catticore (?) was mediocre. Small for the price and not very good at all. Left me wanting to order something else. I won't be going back.
The server was wonderful but the food was just ok. My dish was horrible, a very soupy like red sauce with no flavor. The seafood tasted very fishy and other items seems to be "packaged", like you could go to the store and buy a frozen version of it. We will not be back.
Our Friends & I looked at your menu online and 2 of us had decided to order Fettuccine Seafood which was not on the menu and our waitress and the cooks could not figure out what dish it was. I do not see the dish our friend ended up ordering instead but it had said a light red sauce which it was not. The bruschetta in the past the bread was more toasted it was a little soggy. Our food was good but not what we had anticipated. Our friends ordered a bottle of wine and were satisfied. My husband ordered a beer and noticed it was non-alcoholic which he was not informed and not marked on the beer menu. I in the past have brought many of my friends to you but I was very disappointed and so were my friends. Each of our bills was over $80.
The food, as always, was excellent. The servers are really friendly. We are, however, torn between amusement and annoyance that, once again, the bottle of wine we ordered from the wine list was not available. I can name eight times we've eaten here in the last nine years; of those, once was a wine dinner, and one time we didn't order a bottle, but for sure out of the other six times, on four of those occasions they've brought us a different bottle than what we asked for. I'm leaning towards amusement just because everything else is always so delicious. :}
It was my first time to this restaurant and I really enjoyed it. The atmosphere is quaint and did remind me of being back in an Italian kitchen in Florence. Service was great. Wine tasted good, they had good recommendations for a white and a red. It was a tough decision on the menu. My husband got the lobster ravioli which he had one other time. He didn't quite remember it being so soupy. Way too much cream sauce. Just wasteful if you ask me. But he said the flavor was good. He didn't think it was as good as the last time he had it months ago. I had the tortellini with peas and ham. Mine also had way too much sauce, the flavor was good, but it could have used more ham. I had 2 small pieces in my dish.
We have been going to Buona Sera for years, thankfully a friend let us in on the secret to this little gem! Fantastic food and wine list. Great service, and the atmosphere is very warm and welcoming. Raffaele and his staff are fantastic as always... See you again soon, thanks! :)
Went here for post VDay dinner on a Saturday night. Had reservations at 6:30, found parking lot to be PACKED. Drove around trying to find street parking but there is none in this area. Hostess was great, very acommodating about the parking challenge although there wasn't anything she could do. A large party finally left so my husband could park. They held our reservation and once sat, it was cozy and food was amazing! Great portions, wonderful flavors, great menu selection. Beer list and whisky list were lacking/disappointing to hubby. Liked my wine. Would like to come back and sit on patio during nice weather.
The dining experience was a pleasure since the staff was warm and professional. They were very knowledgeable about the fine cuisine served. The steak I ordered was prepared with a fantastic wine sauce with vegetables and mushrooms to die for. The decor was that of an old world charm that makes you forget about the outside world for awhile. Definitely a place to visit.
My wife and I went to Buona Sera for Valentines Day because we love the sister restaurant, Luna Rosa in Stillwater, and expected similar quality and service at Buona Sera. My wife ordered the signature fillet, as always, and felt it was nowhere near as good as what she always gets at Luna Rosa. I asked for recommendation on fish choices and indicated I wanted something very light. The tilapia was recommended so I ordered it. What I got was a very small fillet that was literally floating in a highly garlicy broth. I love garlic, but this was completely overwhelming and having my fish submersed in this "soup" which was a runny as water, just really didn't work for me. The server knew I was really unhappy, but simply said, "I'm sorry".
this was the first time the food was less than perfect. No stuffed mushrooms available so we took Bruschetta. Bruschetta needed more seasoning and bread was soggy. It tasted like chopped tomatoes on soggy bread. Soup was over salted. Chicken breast was very small but creme brulea was perfect.
Service was 5 stars.
I took my daughter and her husband to dinner to celebrate their birthdays and a graduation. We had a wonderful time! And we all enjoyed the food and service a lot. I especially liked that the hot food was steaming hot. The bar tender was very friendly. We arrived a half hour before our reservation and had drinks at the bar before dinner.
I would definately recomend Buona Sera for dinner. And I already have done so several times.
Love this place. It's very romantic. Great food. Great service. We go here for special occasions, but you can dress up or casual. The chef and owner typically comes around and asks how your food is which is nice. The wait staff knows the wine, the food, what is really great for specials, etc. Highly recommended.
