Bungalow Ratings and Reviews
Valentine's Day - At first miffed because they had a limited menu with set 3 course dinner and they added tables. But all was very good. The menu choices were everything that we wanted and it wasn't overly crowded with tables. Everything was perfectly cooked and service perfect as always. They have the best lobster. Highly recommend the Bungalow (Corona Del Mar).
We’ve been to the Bungalow two Thanksgivings and it’s a favorite of ours. This time, the food was nothing special and it kind of felt like a Southwest Airlines cattle call with the number of tables for expected guests. We were seated downstairs amongst empty tables when there were much better tables available. When we left an hour later, many tables were still open that would have given my wife and I a better experience. The Bungalow is capable of better.
I don't feel like it is as good a restaurant as it was ten years ago. We had not been back for about 4-5 years, and were excited to return. Was a little disappointed as it did not bring back the positive vibes that we remembered from our many dinners there in the past when we lived closer to the restaurant.
The place is very popular, and one of the biggest problems is it is so Noisy. The table next to us had such a boisterous man talking that it felt like he was at our table. It is more crowded now than it used to be with perhaps a couple more tables added.
If you want a fun crazy bar and restaurant vibe then its a great place to go. If you want a intimate, comfortable, personal, private vibe then it is definitely not the place to go.
Props though to a restaurant that has always maintained a loyal following thru the toughest times in the restaurant industry.
The service and food was impeccable. Outstanding service the manager checked on us at least 3 times. The waiter was attentive and very personable. The food delicious. My husband had the special filet mignon on the bone so good. I chose the scallops with risotto, so fresh and good. The dessert was their house special butter cake with vanilla ice cream and raspberry coulis. We didn't leave a drop. I must say the only negative was that when we booked we did mention it was our anniversary and no one commented or said anything regarding our special occasion, did not offer any recognition of that fact.
Great seafood and awesome salads.
It was our first time there, and we saw the owner( or mgr) greet some people (prob friends) at a few tables right next to us. It would have been really classy and nice for him to take a few seconds and just check to see how the other diners (like us ) were also doing. I just think when you go to a restaurant a simple gesture like that goes a long way on making a good and lasting impression.
Ok I go here all the time for lunch. First time for dinner in a long time. Probably say I eat there twice a week. Booked this on Open Table for an early 6 pm table for 4. Got the worst 4 seat intersection to the dining room ever. Lady said you didn't request a booth. Oh oh. learning experience on Open table. Saw a table with those nice booths open and they said no its for one of our restaurant investors. Thank god we are there early at 6 there was a high top at the bar area for four. Ok Becky our server was first class. Our food was just ok. Cesar salad and Char risotto with shrimpy rice. Loved that Kevin manager said hey even bartenderdress Ally? said hey 50 feet from the bar. Loved the menu you do for Ritz week but not the Ritz egg. and your devotion to service and great employees. I will come back for lunch.
Love the Bungalow CDM. I've been coming here for years! Took my boyfriend for his 40th birthday and he loved it! We had the Filet Mignon and Seabass which were lovely and buttercake for dessert. Everything was divine and suggested by our server Tina who you should ask for specifically! She gave us fab suggestions, amazing service and clearly enjoys what she does for a living. The only downfall is a group of lawyers talking about an unsavory topic. That was the only minus but out of the control of the restaurant.
We like to dine here.
We asked for our salads and surf & turf at same time (we clarified 3 times at time of ordering that we wanted at same time ) and salads still came first...20 min later came out steak- ruined the whole idea.
When the wait staff does not take the time to listen to the clients it can ruin the dinner.
I’ve been to the Bungalow many times-mostly because it’s in the neighborhood and easy to walk to. Since it’s inception(about 20 years), the menu hasn’t changed. It’s unfortunate since there are more and more chefs that are creative and change their menus seasonally.
This past Saturday I dined at The Bungalow after making last-minute reservations. Upon our foursome’s arrival I checked in with the hostess. She wanted to seat us outside even though there were empty booths and tables turning over soon. When I responded that we wanted an indoor table her comment was “when did you make your reservation”? I asked why that mattered. No response, just a snarky look.
After a few minutes they sat us at an indoor table. We ordered cocktails, wine and food. My main course was the Steak tartar. When they brought the tartar, the juice spilled all over while trying to set it on the table. The food runner took it back and re-delivered it. The steak tartar was GRAY! It looked as if E.T. was chopped-up and served! Gross! It tasted of lime and disgusting soggy raw meat. The waiter never came back to ask if the food was ok(he knew it wasn’t right). The rest of the parties food was just ok.
For a high-end restaurant in corona Del Mar to be this pathetic is disappointing. Change the chef/menu/decor and get with the times because there are many other choices.
The food was great. They honored all of my special requests without any problem. The chicken was juicy and tender. My husband had the rib eye and it was cooked perfectly . WE started with the artichoke and it was just ok. If it isn't season, leave them off the menu. For dessert my husband had the apple cobbler. Very large serving and he loved it.
Great service, delicious food. My friend and I went to celebrate a belated birthday dinner.
Everything was fabulous... shrimp cocktail, onion soup (the best!) wedge salad and she and I split the filet because we also wanted dessert and it was perfect! Our waiter was great, and NOT weird about us splitting an entrée.
We went for our anniversary. The food was fantastic and the service was great. When we got there they sat us in a quiet place for us to enjoy each other without all the noise. They also brought us a special treat to celebrate. It was a perfect place to celebrate our anniversary.
