Bull and Bear - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
We went for brunch during the bears game and it was awesome! Their brunch deal is unbelievable! The service was awesome, they made sure our drinks were full and were very friendly! They had raffles going on during the game as well. This was our first time there and we definitely found our new brunch spot~
We arrived, showed our opentable conformation email and were told that it was an error- no table for us. Instead of putting us on the top of the waitlist, they put us at the bottom and had us wait at the bar. It wasn't until I expressed how disgusted I was with both opentable & bull & bear that the issue was actually dealt with. Terrible costumer service and obviously a huge disconnect between the restaurant and online service. Get it together
The ambiance of this bar scene was really modern yet laid back and casual. The food here is so different yet so amazing. I absolutely loved the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Being an out of towner, I've come here twice and each experience was great. No bad things to say whatsoever. The back seating is by far the most favored and we really loved sitting in those booths. We have made this spot a tradition and will definitely be looking forward to returning.
The waitress was very good and was efficient and friendly. We were seated in the back and crowd of people hung out around 2 tables having drinks--this created a lot of noise making it difficult to carry on a conversation with our friends. Seems that this large group should have been kept in bar area since they were just drinking and not eating.
Terrible service. Our waitress forgot to put in half of our order and made what was going to be a very memorable introduction of friends a very complicated brunch as half of the party got their food 35 minutes before ours due to the restaurant's error. The service got progressively worse and the food was mediocre. As much as I used to like this bar, I won't be back and it's off my list of places I would ever recommend to others.
The brunch was AMAZING! A very fun drink menu, including a "mule bar" and sangria pitchers you can customize. One of the most extensive brunch menus as well. Would highly recommend the house made pop-tarts--ours came with one savory (crab cake) and one sweet (peach cobbler). Great service and friendly staff as well!
I came here for lunch and appreciated that the kitchen was willing to make me steak tacos (from the dinner menu). The steak tacos were tasty but not enough food. The service was really slow and the restaurant wasn't crowded at all. I don't plan to come back.
We went here for dinner after a long week at work. We drove from the west into the city so our commute was just over an hour.
We were seated in the back and the problem was that the back sections were primarily rented out for after work get togethers. So all of the booths actually had people standing around them with their drinks. This meant that we were sitting in the middle of what felt like an over crowded bar at night. Many people actually set their drinks on our table and were leaning on our chairs as well. The problem was that we went for a dinner date and the place is advertised for their food. Maybe we just got placed in a bad spot, but having reserved the table earlier in the week and stating there were just two of us, you'd think they wouldn't seat us in the middle of a party.
It was our first time and we went for a quick Mother's Day Brunch. The food was good and so where the drinks. The only complaint was with our waitress. She was never around and it wasn't just for our table but our whole section. The bus guy was more attentive. I actually watched the manager tell her to get to her section. If I could have tipped the bus guy I would have. Other than that it was an enjoyable experience.
First, I had a reservation for a few days in advance... maybe a week even. The night we arrived, our table was by the kitchen door so we ate with a horrible view. Second, their grill or something was broken so the menu was so small... Mostly just sandwiches. It was restaurant week! They couldn't call tables with reservations and let them know? They said they could call public house and check if they had an opening. Horrible solution. Didn't get offered a free appetizer or a thing. Super dissapointed and never fussy. Wanted to leave upon arrival but the staff at the table was decent and not their fault whoever is running the restaurant has no clue.
Came here for a late lunch with friends. This place is owned by DINEAMIC Group which also owns my favorite local restaurant Siena Tavern (as well as others). I knew the food would be good and it was. Very casual sports bar type restaurant. Would definitely go again for brunch/lunch. Very friendly staff as well.
I visit Bull & Bear regularly with co-workers and visiting business partners. It's our river north go to because it's not too fancy and not too much hipster and every time it's delicious.
-Menu choices are unique and plentiful
-Ambiance is great, service is always spot on & fun
-prices are super reasonable
-delivers on delicious each time we visit
I'd heard good things about Bull and Bear. I'd tried to get reservations a few times, but given that I usually plan at the last minute I hadn't succeeded until last Friday night. My friend and I ordered burgers, and mine was perfect (medium rare). My friend's, however, was well done, and since she'd ordered medium rare as well, she was unhappy. Without her saying anything, our server not only noticed my friend's irritated expression and asked specifically about the food, but then insisted that they remake the burger. The manager came out and apologized, the new burger was perfect, and all this despite every seat being filled.
I'm looking forward to returning and trying other things from the menu.
Given the prices, this was a disappointment. Noteworthy were the Bloody Mary and the patio which was lovely by itself but given the location of the restaurant, nothing to get excited about. Chose it for Father's Day as something new to try. My breakfast biscuit sandwich was dry and ice coffee had more water than coffee. Service was slow and, given that we had a father at our table on Father's Day, completely aloof. Bummer.
The decor is beautiful, and resembles the online photos appropriately. The table side tappers only offer two beers - Bud Light and Stella Artois. It is cost effective if everyone at the table is drinking from them, otherwise order from the bar as it's cheaper.
Truffle Mac & Cheese is awesome! Brussels Sprouts are definitely something I'd have again. I enjoyed the apps more than the entree, but it wasn't bad at all
The bar was very loud, which is fine for most people, but my voice doesn't carry. This happens at most bars, so it wasn't really a turn off.
THE FOOD. The truffle mac n' cheese was SO GOOD. My boyfriend and I split it, and it was a huge portion perfect for us. He said it was the best mac n' cheese he's ever had, and I can see why. The sauce was different from other mac n' cheeses-- I'm guessing that was the truffle. Super creamy. I would go back just for that.
We had calamari as an appetizer - heavy breading, very flavorful, just the right amount of crunch and the ramoulade sauce was very good. for my entree, I ordered the skirt steak upon my daughters recommendation - it was very interesting, complex, a bit over powering, definitely rich. I believe next time I will try something else, maybe a burger. a very popular spot in a hot neighborhood!!!!
