About buku: Global Street Food
Located at the corner of Wilmington and Davie Streets in the heart of downtown Raleigh, bu•ku is a local restaurant that tells a global story. The name "bu•ku" itself is an international slang twist on the phrase, "Merci, beaucoup" meaning, "Thank you very much." Inspired by the pushcarts of street vendors across the globe, our chefs harvest an array of unique and distinct flavors and present them authentically, in a virtual kaleidoscope of plates. The common link: these are foods that people love. Working within different regional traditions, our menu brings together complex and flavorful dishes that have been honed over generations. Foods like Filipino Lumpia, Jamaican Lamb Patties and Chinese Steamed Buns can be found on the street corners of Manila, Kingston and Beijing. We strive to convey the immediate thrill a traveler feels eating foods like these as they first cross over the cart and exchange hands into the urban setting.

buku: Global Street Food Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary together as well as my son’s birthday, knowing that she like a variety of food. Buku was the best place to be. I do not recall the lady who took care of us but she was awesome and always on the top on everything we ask for. Keep up with the good job guys
The food and drinks were great and the overall experience was fantastic. The restaurant itself had an amazing ambience and I truly enjoyed it. We did have a very large party of guests but the service was extremely slow. It took a good while to get drinks and about an hour to get our food and it also took a while to get the check.
Food was well made by the chefs and the waitress was superb at recommending foods and drinks based on request. If you had any questions regarding specifics within the food, the waitress/waiter would gladly go and ask the chefs or bartenders for you. My only complaint would be the noise level of the music, made it a little difficult to hear. Overall, fantastic experience 4/5 stars.
I believe our server was John, African American male with dreadlocks on top. He was wonderful and very knowledgeable about the food, wine and made the experience very nice by checking in on us at the right times without being over bearing. Thank you John. Plus my date looked great so you know +++
We were seated promptly in the middle of a busy room. The noise level was a bit loud. The custom drink came to the table with lemon instead of lime and with ice instead of neat. The waitress had to be flagged down intread of checking on us. She apply the discount I mentioned early but then there was a drink on our bill not ordered and had to wait for that to be removed. Great food. Could be a cool place but just not great that evening.
Buku never disappoints & tonight was no exception. We went here for my husbands birthday. Service, food, & ambience were superb. They even surprised us with a chocolate mousse cake with a candle & berries on the side. It was to die for! We come here for all our special occasions, celebrations, & date nights. They always deliver 100%!
Perhaps we just ordered the wrong things, but the Ramen was really under-seasoned. Sadly, the ramen I made in college had more flavor than this. For $20, I just expected a little bit more.
Our waitress was great but clearly busy. There were large gaps of time before seeing her. I think we'll try it again and get something else.
First time at Buku, and we were very hopeful as we browsed the menu beforehand. Very stylish and cozy environment. We selected the restaurant because of its varied cuisine and gluten free options. We showed up at opening time on a Sunday. The place was not busy.
The empanadas appetizer was decent. I ordered the Korean Bibimbap and my girlfriend ordered the Samosa Pot Pie. She enjoyed her dish. However, my Bibimbap was all around bland and odd tasting. The beef was cold, the rice too crunchy, and the vegetables tasted over cooked and smokey. It felt like eating a cold frozen dinner. For a $22 dish, I expected much better quality. I've had much better Bibimbap elsewhere in town.
We may give Buku another shot to try other dishes. But first impression was an underwhelming experience.
We went for Triangle Restaurant Week and were thoroughly pleased with the exotic options to try on their special menu. Both of our cocktails were lovely, the service was great, and the food was an exciting adventure. Recommended if you want to take a trip on the culinary wild side!
Table wasn’t the best for a date, middle of the floor was crowded would be better for a casual meet up w a friend.
Service was atrocious, embarrassed me as a host to my date’s first visit to Raleigh. The server took 10m or so to greet us so we immediately ordered drinks and an app... someone brought us the app, which we finished easily 10m before the bartender brought the drinks... then another 10m passed before I had to ask the hostess to find our waiter.
I will likely come back to Buku as it’s one of my favorite restaurants, but I’ll likely not bring a guest new to Raleigh as this was extremely embarrassing.
Dinner here is fantastic. I had come to Boku once before for their Sunday brunch and was not impressed. The only option for food was the buffet and it was an overpriced, mediocre breakfast. I'm really glad I gave it a second chance though because I had a amazing dinner. Definitely something I would suggest to a friend.
My wife and I have a standing date on Friday nights. We have found many great restaurants via Triangle Restaurant Week that become regulars in rotation.
As soon as the server found out we wanted to order from the restaurant week menu, she got cold. The closest she came to asking if we needed anything was "so far so good?"
A hostess came by to check-in a little later. She had an opportunity to save the situation. Instead she was just trying to flip the table.
The food was good but we'll never be back. $100 on dinner for two isn't wealthy-money, but we've gotten better service at literally every place we've ever been in the Raleigh area. That has to be more than 75 restaurants at this point. Bye, Felicia.
We had a lovely experience. Our waitress, Jesse, took the time to explain the different dishes and suggested we try the small plates to sample different items. We did so and enjoyed everything. We will go back. Be sure to let Jessa (and the management) know what a great asset she is to the restaurant.
This was my second time here, the food was fabulous. The African short ribs are super tender it melts in your mouth. The empanadas and the baja crab flauntas are extra yummy. Everyone that I was with all said they will go back, they were happy I took them there for the experience. I love this place.
