About buku: Global Street Food
Located at the corner of Wilmington and Davie Streets in the heart of downtown Raleigh, bu•ku is a local restaurant that tells a global story. The name "bu•ku" itself is an international slang twist on the phrase, "Merci, beaucoup" meaning, "Thank you very much." Inspired by the pushcarts of street vendors across the globe, our chefs harvest an array of unique and distinct flavors and present them authentically, in a virtual kaleidoscope of plates. The common link: these are foods that people love. Working within different regional traditions, our menu brings together complex and flavorful dishes that have been honed over generations. Foods like Filipino Lumpia, Jamaican Lamb Patties and Chinese Steamed Buns can be found on the street corners of Manila, Kingston and Beijing. We strive to convey the immediate thrill a traveler feels eating foods like these as they first cross over the cart and exchange hands into the urban setting.

buku: Global Street Food Ratings and Reviews
We’ve come to Buku a lot in the past & love the brunch but yesterday was the worst experience. It was beyond freezing & the food was horrible. We had to send back the pho (cold soup) and the sushi was the worst I’ve ever had in my life. Stay away from the empanadas. The steak that we said to make medium was BURNT. Never going back.
I’ve been to Buku three times. Twice for dinner where I had the Pho once and the pad Thai the other time. It was delicious and the service was great!
However our New Year’s Eve experience wasn’t so great. The party favors were nice and the ambiance was festive. It was just extremely overpriced for what you got. The three course meal was $65 which when broken down was 15 for appetizer and dessert each and 35 for dinner entree. My steak was cold and over cooked. My husbands fish was super small and the rice was bland. We also did the drink pairings for $25. This was not a deal as this is the normal price for wine - $7 first glass, $10 second glass, and $8 last glass. The first course was fine but the second course we didn’t receive our wine until basically we finished eating the food. Then for third course we got our wine at least 15 minutes before our dessert was served. Considering this was about a $200 meal after drinks and taxes I expected much better.
Dinner on New Year's Eve with friends from out of town. Pre Fix menu was innovative, appetizer choices were excellent (we tried them all). Entree steak was mediocre, vegan entree was very good. Desserts were a disappointment. We have enjoyed many excellent meals at Buku - the Sunday Brunch is the best in Raleigh. The New Year's eve meal was not up to their normal excellent standards.
We hadn’t been to Bu Ku for a few years and chose it for close to home location and ambience. Nice atmosphere and good service. Choices of 3 course menu for NYE. Except for desert, the food was good but not worth the high price. We still enjoyed the occasion and would probably try it again with the regular menu. Also we remember great weekend brunches.
Going to BUKU on the Sunday nearest New Years has become a tradition these last few years for us. The food, service and everything is always to our satisfaction. And, while we like the food and the fried chicken is the best in Raleigh, most of the menu is repetitive for each visit. Like to see a little more variety but definitely keep the chicken. BTW, we go to BUKU several other times during the year and not just at New Years. Best brunch i the triangle.
I'm not very adventurous with food but my wife really wanted to go so we did. The food was very good and I would go back. My only "negative" feedback was our waiter. He was adequate but seemed just angry. We would get nods or one word answers while we noticed many of the other waitstaff as very outgoing and engaging with their tables. Could have just been a bad day but I would go back and suggest trying it if you haven't.
They have a separate vegan menu, and have gluten free options as well. I’ve never had anything there that wasn’t delish.
They have a room that’s closed off from the regular dining room for large groups/special occasions that we used last time we were there. We’ve had excellent service every time we’ve been there.
My daughter and I chose this restaurant based on the menu for dinner before the ballet. We made an excellent choice and had a wonderful dinner. It's two days later and we are still talking about the meal. The flavors were amazing and every dish was an experience.
Buku is a fabulous restaurant for all kinds of things, happy hour, quick bite with a drink, small plates, or a full dinner. The ambience is gorgeous with the waterfall by the bar. The restaurant is also beautiful inside without being loud. The lighting is perfect and makes for a cozy place to dine and have drinks.
This was our first visit to Buku. Our party of four enjoyed our meal and the service. We had the samosa pot pie, ramen, sushi, vegetable gyoza, steam buns with pork belly, pirogi, two beers and one cocktail. As we were walking back to the car, we all made the same comment ... 'global street food shouldn't be this expensive'. Our bill with 20% tip was around $150. We'll probably go back but we agreed that we'll try some other spots first.
Best Brunch in the Triangle! My wife and I took our 1 year old daughter there for my wife's birthday. The food was Awesome and the staff was even better. The manager was extremely attentive and engaging. Our waiter was perfect. We've tried this place before and it keep getting better. They have highchairs so feel comfortable taking kids to brunch.
We've been to BuKu quite a number of times. Service is always great, food is too. Lovely menu, great variety of options. I've enjoyed everything I've had there and have never heard a complaint from a guest. The only thing I don't care for about BuKu is that, although they have a very nice kids' menu - they don't print it, nor do they tell you about it. The regular menu choices don't really suit kids, so when a little one arrives - someone should be ready to tell them their options.
We LOVED Buku...each and every one of us. The variety is amazing and yet the quality of the food isn’t compromised due to the restaurant’s varied menu in an attempt to make lots of different types of food very well. Buku accomplishes this seamlessly. This restaurant is a gem and should be in other cities.
