Buddakan - Philadelphia
Food was ok, nothing out of expectation for an Asian fusion. We liked the pork belly bun the most. Service was a bit slow, and it was a Monday evening, so mot a lot of people. Quite pricy for the amount of food. and not worth the money if you're paying by your own. The budda is unique and interesting though.
The restaurant was disappointing. This was a Stephen Starr project but was sold. I have enjoyed his other restaurants and will never know if it was better before transfer. The food was off and playing unprofessional.
I remember this restaurant from "perhaps" (can't recall for sure!) either being at the one in NYC or hearing about it. Thus, the name stuck out in my mind when I looked for a restaurant to have dinner with friends while attending a conference. As one person said, "Depending on the restaurant, I was going to either decline or accept! When I heard what it was, I accepted!" The atmosphere was very pleasant and the food presentation and taste was very good. I wish we could have tried the tasting menu, but we realized it would have been more food than we would have needed, however, I will make a point of trying this in the future.
Buddakan never disappoints me. The food was so good and it was a treat.
The food was overpriced and left me underwhelmed. The ambiance was on par with any restaurant in the city.
Great atmosphere and ambiance, exceptional service, fantastic food (though a bit spicier than expected). Somewhat pricy but portions are reasonable. Perfect place for a date.
Spectacular food! Edamame dumplings, grilled octopus, black cod, sea bass, let alone their signature drink Zen-gria... what else could you want? The large statue of Buddha is topping it off...
This was our anniversary dinner and the Buddakan staff treated us very nicely. They seated us on the second level which was very personal and romantic (we both have never sat up there). Our server was also really professional and made descriptive recommendations whenever needed. The food is meant for sharing and the staff do a great job at spacing it out and seperating your choices into courses. Overall we had a very pleasant evening and Buddakan continues to be our favorite restaurant.
Great experience. It was only our second time, but better than the first. We were celebrating big anniversary and it was a great dining option for the occasion. Food was exceptional. Only complaint is that I did not like being seated next to the kitchen when the rest of the restaurant was basically empty, and we had reservations.
Great variety, great tastes, great food, great service, great value. Loved it!
Amazing food! Definitely need to get the donuts for dessert.
Had a great time! Server was very nice and helpful!!! Food was a bit too salty.
Overall pretty good. It is a rather expensive place. Some of the dishes were not as tasty as I wish they were. So for the price I was not as satisfied as I wished.
We had great time, food was excellent. Had rock shrimp, dumplings and best part of the meal was the char grilled aged steak. LOVED all of it!
Great food. It had been a couple of years since we were there but the food is still great. Seems like it is no longer family style but dishes were shareable. Glad we went back.
Celebrating our granddaughter’s visit EJ wanted to go back to Buddakan she had been their once before and this was our first visit. EJ raved about the edamame dumplings and “we have to have them”. This was a dining experience not just a dinner. The dumplings were silky smooth, almost like a creamy edamame. My sea bass was fabulous. The dessert vanilla cheesecake was so good. The sashami delicious, the lobster dumpling perfect, cashew chicken excellent and the sorbets perfect. The experience was a great experience, thank you EJ for wanting a return visit to Buddakan. A perfect evening to spend together.
Food and service outstanding as usual. The tight seating is what drives me crazy at this location.
We went to Buddakan to celebrate my birthday and it was our first time there. I cannot say enough good things about the place! The food is delicious, ambiance is great and service really great too. We had Shrimp Dumplings, Char Grilled Aged Beef, Lobster Fried Rice and Chocolate Ganache for desert. Simply amazing!
BUDDAKAN IS ALWAYS DELICIOUS AND FRESH, WE LOVE THE AMBIANCE AND THE QUALITY OF
THE FOOD. THE STAFF IS FRIENDLY AND PROFESSIONAL. WE LOVE BUDDAKAN
Been coming for years now. Consistantly great food and ambiance
very good eating experience ambiance was great and service was good. Food was perfect.
I rated overall a 3 because the bar ran out of the mango lassi I had ordered, which was not a big deal, but then, the couple sitting next to us ordered another type of drink (I do not remember what is was) and the bartender came back and told them they were out of that drink too.
Then we waited for what seemed like ages once we were sat at our table for the bar drinks we ordered with our server. Our server was great! He apologized about the wait for the drinks and everything was great.
I am visiting from Virginia and this restaurant was an experience! The ambiance and decor is beautiful, the staff are very helpful and welcoming. It was our first time and our server was so patient with all of our questions and made great meal suggestions. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and drinks!! I'll definitely be back when I'm in Philadelphia!!
My favorite restaurant to eat! My partner and I try to get here several times a year. The food is everything plus more. We were serviced by waitress Patricia for a second time since May, and we absolutely adore her!
Food was very good and overall service was very timely. But for some reason it took a long time to receive drink orders, and restaurant was not crowded as dined later in the evening.,
Fantastic server! Well versed with menu but didn’t impose on the evening whatsoever. He offered well informed opinions and ensured we were content at all points of the evening! Would love
To come back and visit.
Excellent as usual
The food was delicious. The staff was professional as usual and very courteous. This is a great place for lunch.
Lovely place with good food and the service was out excellent. Loved the lucky Chang beer and bottles. Would go again for sure
Excellent service, lobster egg rolls were outstanding.
Excellent in all regard, except noisy for and hard for a four top to hear each other
After all these years Buddakan just keeps getting better. The food was better then I remember and the service was outstanding as well. Our server Mark was polite and professional. Can’t wait for a return visit.
Always a treat. Calamari salad might be the best thing I’ve eaten in a while. Hip, trendy look makes for a special outing.
Recently dined at this excellent, top notch, Asian fusion themed restaurant for a birthday. As soon as you walk into the restaurant, while the entrance is fairly cramped it leads directly into this beautiful, two floor, open spaced seating arrangement. Once seated the food was beyond excellent. We had a "Buddha's salad" with Carrot and ginger spiced balsamic dressing. I'm not a salad person but it was absolutely to die for! We also tried the mushroom dumplings, Spicy Rock Shrimp Buns, curried cauliflower, wasabi mash potatoes and Lobster Kung Pao. All of the aforementioned dishes were extremely delicious and were equally fresh and tasty to boot! Our server was excellent as well: attentive without constantly hovering. She seemed to return at just the right time to check on our dinner. She was, like the entire experience here, excellent. The only downer (which has nothing to do with the restaurant however) is that parking in this area of Philadelphia is an absolute bear! If you can just valet your car. Otherwise you'll be driving around attempting to find a parking spot for quite some time. If you choose to do so arrive earlier than your reservation to give yourself time to find a spot. The restaurant is worth it though!
Amazing food. Lovely interior. Service was impeccable. Loved it and will be back.
The edamame dumplings are outstanding. I would recommend this place
Great food. Noisy and so difficult to have conversation. Desserts were perfect. Family style service. Love that food arrives as prepared, thetefore hot and delicious.
I’ve always wanted to go to Buddakan but was worried about just high priced Asian food. Well there was nothing to worry about. It is a higher price point but it was worth it! Our waiter, Ciyoung, was fantastic! He described all the food in detail, from memory, which was helpful to someone not well versed in Asian foods. His recommendations were right on. His service was stellar. The lobster and crab dumplings were to die for. Our meals were good. The dessert however were fresh, hot, donuts with dipping sauces and out of this world. So glad we went!
One of the Best meals I have had in 2018
