Edward did an excellent job!
Lovely birthday dinner. Expensive but beautiful venue and great food. Have come in the past. Was so nice to be back!
Edamame dumplings, calamari salad, crab fried rice, and the wasabi steak! Everything was amazing!!
Exceptional food and outstanding service.
Great place, especially the food. Outside dining was very nice.
Great service in a restaurant that has delivered great meals for over 20 years. Must try the tuna pizza appetizer it is outstanding.
Birthday dinner for my lover. She loved it.
No cover in the rain
Ordered bottle of wine only to wait 40 minutes for delivery and to have the bottle not match the vintage specified on the published wine list offered to customers. The wine was older and had lost fruit. No effort was made to amend the situation in any way. As a matter of fact we were charged for two bottles of this wine at check out and had to correct the mistake in order to not pay a double penalty.
Great place. I made the reservation a month prior to the evening, I called to confirm and everything was set, I arrived and within minutes was seated!!
Our food was wonderful and service by Suzanne was outstanding!
We have been to Buddakan in the past and had better experiences. The food was bland this time, we started with the edamame dumplings which the texture was off, the spring rolls, which had no sauce- and the Bao buns which were good. In between courses our plates were never cleared, they brought out our second course and had no where to put it due to the dirty plates still sitting there. I know everyone is getting back in the swing after covid, but if someone has the time to ask us how the dishes were, but leaves the dirty plates, that's not acceptable at a 3 star restaurant. The Sea Bass was fine, the Crab rice was ok, the lobster rolls tasted like any other egg roll. Over all the experience was disappointing, I usually love Starr restaurants but I won't be returning to this one.
I wish I knew my servers name he was awesome!
Awesome dinner and Ed was a great server! Can’t wait to come back
Consistent and delicious. Love bringing visitors because food and drink never fail to impress. The whole fried fish is done perfectly. I could taste the fish. The general tso soup dumplings are flavorful and tender. The rock shrimp buns are great spicy shrimp on a fluffy steamed bun. The lobster are curry is luscious and the vegetables are great. I hope the vegetable rice is never taken off the menu. Best side dish. The cocktails are refreshing and delicious.
Wonderful outdoor dining. Drinks and shared plates.
This is our go-to for special occasions, and it never disappoints! Our favorite is the edamame dumplings. The house salad with ginger dressing is no longer on the menu—hopefully it will be back. The wasabi tuna was delicious!
Everything was great!!
Char Grilled Aged Beef and Edamame Dumplings were incredible
We were on a road trip. Dining experience was great.
Food was amazing. The service was incredible.
Food was lovely, server was impeccable! I’m sorry I can’t recall his name but he had a dangly earring. The way he knew the menu was breathtaking. Many thanks to him and the rest of the staff whom I am sure are lovely as well. I hope to come back soon!
We had great dinner. The dim sum appetizers were delicious. The wasabi filet was incredibly tender. The other dishes were good as well. Will be back soon
Food, drinks and ambiance were amazing!
Unbelievable experience. Some of the best food I’ve had in Philly. Will be coming back soon!
Wonderfully prepared food: lobster fried rice, sea bass and crispy whole fish. We enjoyed our outdoor seating. Our server was so helpful answering questions and her suggestions were spot on. Our dinner experience was one of the best parts of our Philly trip!
Everyone food was great except mine , I didn’t really like the sauce on the steak and my Lo mein was soggy
They hit all the marks with ambiance, checking in was easy and the atmosphere was fun, energetic and intimate. Spacing, safety precautions and comfort were all as you would expect and appreciated.
This is where the meal took a turn unfortunately. After sitting for about 15 mins with no water and no idea on who our server even was we were greated by a hostess who asked our water preference and drink order.
15 minutes later our server arrived with our drinks and actually asked us if we needed more time with the menu.
We ordered an appetizer and 3 meals to split between the 2 of us. Our dumpling appetizer arrived about 15 mins later, the flavor was great and finished quickly between the 2 of us.
Our server checked on us about the flavor quickly as we were just finishing the final bites and roughly 20 mins later came back to ask if we were ready for our mains. At this time we also asked for a refill on our drinks and waters which hadn't been addressed since the first visit from the host.
10 more minutes followed and a busser grabbed our dishes, we asked him as well for more water as our server never did return with any. He quickly returned gave us new plates for our main courses and filled the waters.
We waited roughly 15 mins longer for our main dishes to arrive. All of the food was great, the portions were as expected and everything paired nicely together, we even had a little to take home for later!
All in all we sat for nearly 2hrs, enjoyed the food, company and ambiance of the restaurant, but couldn't believe the level of service we were missing. Our server visited us 4 times in total throughout the entire meal, nothing came without our ask, including the bill, drink refills or food and left disappointed in the entire experience.
Luckily, we rushed out the door in time to grab dessert from somewhere else.
Service was terrible took my sister here for her birthday and for her first time took us over 30 minutes just to get a glass of water. Never brought out a birthday dessert and all around service just slow.
Slight decline in patronage during Covid-19 era has improved the noise level. Menu has fewer choices, but still plenty to please all diners, including vegetarians. Staff wore masks but were as charming as ever. Festive, delicious evening.
I took my niece for a long overdue celebration of her graduation (class of 2020) and milestone birthday. It was her first time at Buddakan and from the moment I saw her face light up as we walked in I knew I’d made the right choice. I hadn’t been there in way-too-long and forgot how I felt the first time I entered this incredible space 20+ years ago. It remains so special.
??As Philadelphia dining had not resumed to full capacity it was pretty quiet when we arrived for our 6:15 reservation.
To start we shared the amazing calamari salad, the legendary edamame dumplings, and the wonderful spicy rock shrimp boa buns. Every bite was amazing. And while my niece wasn’t sure if she likes duck, she trusted my judgment and we got the Peking Duck, and the Char Grilled Aged Beef. For dessert we had the Dim Sum Donuts, served with a sparkler, as I’d alerted them it was my nieces’ birthday.
Everything was as incredible as I remembered. Our server was attentive, lovely and knowledgeable. It was such a delicious and special evening shared with and celebrating my beloved niece.
Empty restaurant catching quick dinner at 6 pm son we were seated in balcony next to the back up bar. Son (18) actually said he thought they did it on purpose- what we looked like after a day of touring UPenn may not have been nighttime chic but certainly country club casual with Lulu lemon and Johnny Was-
Shame on the hostesses- its always about how you make people feel- not the food
Loved the service and food! Staff was great, and the Manager took care of us due to the starters coming out a bit late. So very Grateful for this place and will come back soon!
Great dinner with appropriate COVID accommodations
The service was excellent!
The appetizers were very good we ordered shrimp buns and the tuna pizza. The main course left much to be desired. Thanks
Me and my boyfriend went for dinner- the sashimi was incredible and so were the edamame dumplings! My entree was wasabi noodles which was outstanding and my boyfriend had the sea bass which had the most amazing glaze. We both loved it and for dessert we got the cinnamon doughnuts which did not disappoint! I def recommend going!!
Ambiance aside, delectable and visually pleasing presentation of menu selections.
Our server , LARRY is THE BEST !
