Food great, service great, price OK, but noise almost unbearable--difficult for three people to have a conversation.
I always enjoy Buck's. This time the table shared their onion rings-excellent and light! The pork chop and chocolate cake are not to be missed.
Lovely warm ambiance. Good selection of entrees but apps need more interesting options. Reasonable wine list.
We arrived early and had a delicious quiet meal. Buck's is a little pricier than other neighborhood restaurants, but the service and ambience were great.
Buck’s is one of my favorite restaurants. It is indeed a neighborhood gem.
The restaurant is charming and cozy and the service was great. Good cocktails, and my husband and I really enjoyed our salads—beet and Caesar. The beet salad with dill chèvre was absolutely delicious. Our friends enjoyed their entrees. Although the fish and chips was just good, not great, the steak/frites were reportedly very good. I had blackened rockfish and it was completely over cooked—very dry and with little sauce to help. The sorghum was also not very good, although the pickled cabbage slaw was good. My husband enjoyed his scallops but not the sauce they were served with. Both desserts, the chocolate cake and the apple cobbler, were excellent. A pleasant overall experience, but I should have paid more attention to the waiter when he tried to steer me to the meat section of the menu.
We really enjoy Buck's! We brought our friends and they had never been to Buck's and they loved it, too. The food was very good and we decided to get the chocolate cake based on Tom Sietsema's review in Friday's Post: it was delicious! The manager was great and we had wonderful evening.
We enjoyed a low key dinner with friends and everything was delicious. Service was prompt and friendly. The Manhattan was generous and perfect. The short ribs were moist, flavorful, and with the polenta a rich and satisfying dinner on a cold night out. Others had the chicken and cleaned their plates. I Love the atmosphere at Bucks all the time - it is festive, yet low key. I like it when the lights are not too bright, and this place gets it exactly right. Intimate, yet fun. So glad Bucks is in my neighborhood.
Buck’s has quickly become our favorite neighborhood place. The service, food quality and overall experience is fantastic. It is a casual place that is not overly pretentious... but man is the food great. We keep coming back and will continue into the future. On last visit I had the “Big” steak and my husband had the wood fire grilled lobster. Both were fantastic.
Good service and great food. Menu is very interesting.
Had dinner with friends really great food enjoyable atmosphere wonderful wine
Great experience, good food. Nice neighborhood spot with great service.
Wonderful, beautifully spiced meat, in a lovely ambiance and friendly service.
We've been here a number of times, and always love it. The ambience is so inviting -- lots of candles, wood, and a general rustic, comfy feel. And the food is terrific and a good value. We love the hangar steak, and the wood-grilled sides. On our latest visit two of us enjoyed seafood options as well. One had the scallops and another the rockfish. Location on the same block as Politics and Prose, the best independent bookstore anywhere, is a plus as well.
Always one of my favorites...the cozy, comfortable interior is a wonderful accompaniment to the consistently delicious food and drinks.
Wouldn't take our Opentable Dining Points reward, after we'd gone through the trouble to print it and bring it, and don't know if we can get the points back to use somewhere else. It's one of our favorite neighborhood places-- the food is solid and the ambiance very nice-- but the manager's attitude of "well we don't know how to use those" made us feel unwelcome, especially when it looks like they work just like a Mastercard cash card. To be fair, the manager did offer to give us a gift card if we couldn't get the rewards points refunded at Opentable, but why not just know how to take them in the first place?
Steaks were very disappointing
The long table and linen curtains create an atmosphere of an African safari. The service was excellent and the food is always quite good. A gem of a spot.
I am hoping we just caught the restaurant on a bad night (weeknight, late January) but the service was horrible and very slow. Our server did nothing to acknowledge that the kitchen may be backed up and just ignored us until we asked about the status of our meal. It took about 45 minutes for our entrees to be delivered. We did not order an appetizer. The manager (?) also did not provide us with any assurance that our meal would be delivered soon, or that anything would be provided at a discount or comped. I had been to the restaurant several months earlier and had a lovely meal with excellent service.
The family walked over to Buck’s for a lovely dinner on the weekend. Everything hit the mark. Great scallops, steak that was rare as requested (strangely difficult outcome to experience in DC). Service was relaxed and lovely, just right attentiveness and we were not rushed at the end (again, sadly rare in DC). All good.
Another delicious meal at Buck’s! We had some issues with getting a table at first and our food took 45 minutes to arrive but they were very nice about it. Will definitely return.
This has been a neighborhood favorite of ours for years. I wish it weren't so dark, so we could read the menu, and that it weren't so loud so four of us could hear each other without having to raise our voices, and that they'd use a little bit less salt. I also wish they would not clear our plates until everyone has finished - that is so uncomfortable.
Hadn’t been there in a while, and, as picky neighborhood restaurant frequenters, we were pleased to rediscover that we liked it overall. We did find it hard to identify things on the menu we wanted, and especially the appetizers, and were initially a little disappointed. But once we got the food, we really enjoyed it. The onion rings were great, which was one of the fallbacks for appetizers. The corn dogs were another appetizer that turned out to be really good. I had the blackened rockfish, very tasty. And the chicken was also good. One of us could only find a hamburger to order, but it was a good one. We had a quieter table in the corner, which was much better than the noisier shared long table in the middle of the restaurant. Anyway, if you haven’t been there in a while like us, you might go again.
Ambiance and cocktails were great. The food was good with the cocktails, appetizers and bread standing out at the best items. I especially liked the rose prosecco. Our appetizers -deviled eggs, mini corn dogs, fried pickles/peppers and wedge salad were excellent. The onion rings and fried oysters were very disappointing. The oysters were 95% batter and 5% oyster and the onion rings were bland. In a 3 star or above restaurant I expect plump oysters and if a restaurant calls their onion rings famous one would expect a good onion ring.
The main entrees were good especially the hamburgers, steak and grouper. Fish and chips were ok as were the french fries. Dessert also was just ok (cobbler, chocolate cake and ice cream).
One of my absolute favorites… Great staff, great ambiance, great food, wonderful hostess !!
Excellent as usual! Service was superb. And chef’s special was tasty but not stuffy.
Food and service were excellent. My only complaint is the noise level that make it difficult to carry on a conversation.
This restaurant is so very cozy. I adore the space. The menu is interesting and the food is yummy. My cocktail was ok, but not outstanding. The service at the table is friendly and knowledgable. We found the hostess to be less than friendly. It is a very happy place to spend a cold January evening.
Food and ambience was excellent.
Parking is a problem.
Would be better if bread was served warm.
Wine quality needs to be improved. The Merlot quality spoilt the mood.
A restaurant of this quality should simply not have any poor quality wine.
My sense is that the wine was a cheap, poor quality bulk purchase, not even properly stored and then sold by the glass.
The restaurant didn't have amaretto but made a special effort to secure some from their sister restaurant close by for my cocktail.
It was early on New Year’s Eve and our server seemed a little dour and serious. But service was good and the food , as usual, was delicious and creative. Especially love the fried oysters and the salmon and roe courgettes! We appreciated not having to deal with a “special” NYE menu. A fine experienced.
Had a wonderful dinner with family. Staff was very nice and accommodating and food was great. Will definitely return.
Met here with friends for a fun get-together. One was fixated on finding a good pork chop, and it did not disappoint! We all had delicious meals (one steak, three pork chops, and I pretended to be vegetarian and had the quinoa bowl) and lovely salads. Great place to sit and talk. Quiet enough that we could hear each other. Excellent service.
Unfriendly waitress who forgot my soup order. Bad cocktails.
This was my second visit to Buck's and I was just as impressed as the first time! Delicious food, great atmosphere, and friendly service. I will be back.
We were a group of seven out for a birthday party. Seated at the big common table. Delicious food - great wines - friendly efficient service. Seafood entrees particularly good here especially the roasted black grouper with sorghum pilaf and roasted tomato romesco sauce and the grilled wild scallops with cauliflower puree. Also tasty squash soup and the vegetarian entree of quinoa, with roasted vegetables. Everything was good. Wine and beer offerings are numerous and well chosen. Lovely, warm lighting on a cold winter night.
The menu is small and simple, in the best sense. The food is well prepared, on the salty side. The decor is charming, the tables are well spaced. Bathrooms are not very nice. Wine list is nice, there is a carafe option on a few.
Alys love it at bucks! Friendly and yummy and welcoming!
Bucks is truly a neighborhood gem. The staff is so warm and friendly. The food is delish too. It's got a great vibe all around!
