Buck's Fishing & Camping
First visit. Attentive service. We loved everything we had We had fried oysters, onion rings, halibut, mussels, fish & chips, chocolate cake, peach galette. The only negative was that it was a little warm in the dining room. Though it was near 100F outside and they probably had the AC cranked as strong as it could be. So I can’t really fault them. (Everyone else at the table was comfortable. I was the only warm one.) We’ll be back.
Friendly place with a varied menu, something for everyone, very good salads, and a Pimm’s fizz cocktail that is soothing on a hot night! Lots of meat dishes if you like that, but always some vegetarian options and one dish that can be made vegan by subtracting the cheese, I think. A little noisy, depending on where you sit. It makes for a pleasant evening to visit Politics and Prose just a few doors down and then come for a relaxed well prepared meal afterwards.
Great place. Execellent food. Will definitely be back.
Best restaurant in NWDC by a mile. Run, do not walk. Except when I want a table there.
It is camp food with style so I don’t know why I was put off by the heaps of fried battered fish, fries and only after digging to the bottom of this pile, a delicious grilled broccoli slaw that I had paid extra for. I would rather the prices be a bit lower and portions smaller. And don’t hide the veggies. Still, it was all very very tasty. Atmosphere is great but noisy. Our server was super. The chocolate cake is divine. The strawberry shortcake did not have a traditional biscuit soo I was disappointed although it was good. We will go back of course!
Buck's has been on our list for some time and we finally had a chance to visit. It's a wonderful neighborhood gem. The food and drinks were delicious -- and we understand why their onion rings are famous! It's a great restaurant if you are looking for a quiet, romantic dinner, we found the conversation to be easy. We'll definitely be back.
Great experience....great service, food and design!
Love bucks- my family always goes for special occasions. Awesome low key restaurant with great food. Also has great options for vegetarians.
Superb hidden gem in the North West. My first time there, I will be back.
It just doesn’t get any better than Buck’s.
The food was rather mediocre given the price. Though the fries were great. Even the draft beer could have been colder. I was sorry to be disappointed because I'd read such great things about the restaurant.
Always a good experience.
Had a fun dinner. Only problem is our server was rushing us the entire evening. It was crowded, I understand they wanted our table but it was hurried from the start. Kind of a bummer.
Had a great meal with friends. Sit outside on the patio if you can. Highly recommend the quinoa bowl. The fish and chips and burgers are good as well. Fried pickled jalapenos were good, but I wanted more kick from them. There is plenty of good stuff on the menu, but I feel like it could use one or two more mains to round it out - just glance at the menu before you go.
Food was amazing . Love the atmosphere .service was good.
It was a little loud otherwise just right!!!!
Buck's is consistently satisfying. It blends the non-fussy comfort of a true neighborhood restaurant with a level of quality often associated more with destination restaurants. It's one of my favorites.
First time visit to Bucks. Overall an enjoyable experience and would come again. Where they missed was in level of service where it was both slow and somewhat ad hoc. For example they took our appetizer order and since we were still deciding on Entrees asked for a couple of minutes. They forgot to come back until after we had finished our appetizers. Other downmarks was one of the main dishes was over cooked and dry. I do not want to be overly harsh it just fell a little short in terms of expectations.
We chose Buck's for the location - we were going to a reading at Politics and Prose a few doors away.
Service was very good, ambience pleasant. The food Buck's serves is pretty unhealthy, on the whole, but the portions are generous and a lot of people like fried stuff, so I don't wan to be too negative. I had some nice plump steamed mussels from Maine and a glass of rosé, my husband had fish and chips which he found very satisfactory.
I have enjoyed Buck's in the past but was disappointed this time out. The main reason: my soft shell crab sandwich. The pan fried crabs were just so so. Hardly worth the effort.
The food and the value are terrific. Excellent and professional wait staff
I think the chef may have had an off night when we were there. My pasta dish needed flavor. My spouse, who almost never reaches for the salt shaker, had to salt his fish. A fellow at a neighboring table asked us to pass them the salt and pepper shakers as their dishes needed seasoning also. We love the restaurant, but the food was just average the night we were there.
Buck's is an terrific restaurant and would get far more attention if it were in a more easily accessible location in DC. For those of us in the neighborhood, it's a gem.
ALWAYS a great meal!!!!
The surroundings and the people who work there are terrific!
Great food, great, service, interesting decor, fun place
Nice variety of seasonal options. Delicious fresh fish selection and Impossible Burger. Good wine list with wide selection of pricing.
Friendly service and comfortable ambiance.
Wonderful ambiance, great food! It got pretty loud inside around communal table.
Terrific food but very loud.
Nothing special. Food ok; service better, but had to ask three times for water. Not great value.
Very good. Like feel of place. Definitely return
Absolutely terrific experience and food. Highly recommend Buck's. Scallops were perfect, as was the halibut my husband ordered. One of the best dinners out we've had in a long time!
Outdoor seating was just right for conversation. Halibut was moist and delicious. Fried oysters just like the beach in 1960. Service perfect.
Great neighborhood place and the best roasted chicken in DC!
We love Bucks! Neighborhood vibe and great food and drink
We are very lucky to have such a great neighborhood restaurant. Bucks never fails to impress with their amazing dishes!
This was our first visit and we enjoyed it and expect to make return visits. Onion rings were light (comparfed to other places that serve a heavily coated version). The halibut, fish and chips, and 1/2 chicken were all well-prepared and had great taste. While not a big desert eater, I coulo get the chocolate cake with Lewes whipped cream again.
Decorations were a surprise -- was expecting more of a tent/cabin feel. They had it decorated with cherry blossoms and lanterns. Nice.
Also, as they suggested, we got to their front door by going through Comet Ping Pong (which might be a pizza stop in the future.)
Food was very tasty. We waited 40 minutes after appetizers for dinner. We're told the kitchen was backed up. They made it right by comping a round of drinks for the table
We booked months ago for the quiet table in the back because it was a special event. When we arrived that request was not honored. The hostess said we had not used the right wording so someone else got it. No real apology, no nothing. We were out in the main dining area and it was very noisy.
Very disappointing they could not have bothered to let us know ahead of time.
We go to Buck's all the time and most everything is generally good. This time, the reliable burger was not as hot as usual, though my companion's fish and chips was outstanding as usual.
Food was very appealing and there was something for everyone's taste..fries, fresh halibut or carrot dip.
Service was good humored, attentive and helpful
