About
We very much appreciated the actions Buck’s took to remove tables and improve social distancing in the restaurant. We realize this has a very real cost to the establishment. But as patrons we appreciated the actions they took to mitigate risks.
Buck’s is our go-to date night restaurant. The atmosphere is cozy, the service is excellent, and the food is delicious. Reservations recommended, as Buck’s is always packed.
Decent food, good service, very noisy! Crowded and tables are very close together.
We arrived on a very busy Saturday night and were seated as soon as possible. The hostess kept us informed of the wait and updated throughout as we grabbed a drink at the bar. Our server could not have been more prompt and attentive while allowing for a leisurely meal and conversation. She made excellent suggestions and ensured all food arrived as ordered and in a timely manner. Our meals were delicious and the preparations novel without being over the top or distractingly complex. A great neighborhood find, we will most definitely return.
A go to place for NW DC--great ambiance, long standing wait staff that greet you by name, and always good food.
Enjoyed the food, but the service was not especially attentive (yes, I would love another drink!). Conversation was difficult because of noise level and tables very close together.
Food, as usual, was very good, but the service really bad. We were rushed to order drinks, then the server disappeared for 20 minutes. When she came back we placed drink and food orders. No bread was offered. Meal came out <5 minutes after appetizers arrived. The server then disappeared for the rest of the night. Gone. Another server, who was wonderful, finally got us a check after we waited for nearly 30 minutes for our original server to come back. Never saw her again.
A terrific value from excellent food in a genteel setting with professional service and attention to detail.
The food is a bit pricey for the area, but the quality is top notch. The ambience and staff are great.
If possible, add 2 more entrees under $20 even if protein portions are smaller with more vegetables.
Also, is there ever a HH or discounted wine days?
Food and atmosphere were great! We had an early reservation but we were very rushed through the entire time. We tried to slow it down but the waiter brought our check without asking if we wanted another drink and we were going to order dessert too. Very rushed! Party of four.....
There were eight of us that met up for a family dinner. We had an excellent time! Buck's had been on our list for a long time and did not disappoint! Looking forward to returning soon!
I had fish and chips that were soggy and had only a little fish. Overpriced for what it was. Absolutely no effort was made to recognize our anniversary.
Ambience was good, service a little slow and food decent.
Think of a place that treats you like family. And think of a place that cooks food as if you were eating at a friend's who had a great townhouse and he/she was a great cook...no brainerd. Go!
We love Buck’s - every time. Great service. Wonderful ambiance. Very good food and drinks. Can’t ask for more...
We went there for Valentine dinner. The place is cozy and the service is attentive. My wife's chicken was excellent and the chocolate cake for dessert for tasty.
From the deviled ham salad appetizer to the fish and chips and the braised short ribs, it was all a taste treat. Would definitely return.
We'd last been to Buck's years ago and were underwhelmed: no substitutions, limited menu, haughty service. NOW, though, we found a very different, welcoming, place. Luckily we had a corner table where noise level was fine; center tables would have been clatteringly loud. Varied, enticing menu. 2 had halibut, 1 had a beef burger, 1 had the chicken. It's expensive, but delicious. We shared extra-good onion rings as well as "the last" apple gallette with vanilla ice cream, which was tasty. Wines and beer were great, decor is lovely. Service was terrific. We'll return soon.
Made a last minute Saturday evening reservation 1t 9:15PM..first time for me and thought the place was great. We arrived just after the rush, so took a few minutes to get seated/most of staff seemed burned out/not very attentive. Food came, plates were cold, and food was lukewarm...we both had the chicken which was very salty and both it and the carrots were drenched in butter. My girlfriend couldn't eat it so sent it back, but I was so hungry and the kitchen was closed I enhaled it. Funny thing, I was saying how cool the place was, we would definitely come back, etc. but after we got the food/ate I would have to give them more consideration. And broccoli slaw was served with mayo which killed it, we couldn't eat either...server did the right thing at the end and charged us for one entry only.
Fantastic place. It’s a cozy and vibrant small place with excellent food, service and ambiance. It’s now on our list of favorite DC restraunts.
It was quite busy, even for a Saturday night. We waited almost 1/2 hour past our reservation time for our table, though the staff was very apologetic. The space itself is pretty welcoming - even cozy. But all those close tables and hard services made it a maze to get to the table and hard to hear at our table of 4. The service was nice, but quite slow (again, busy night, I get it). Had to ask for water refills each time, though the meals did come out pretty quickly and together - hard to do. I had the quinoa pilaf - not bad, but more like an assemblage of leftover ingredients than a coherent dish. The halibut looks pretty uninspiring, the pork chop looked good, and the burger not much to write about. The fries, they were good. We enjoyed the overall pleasant vibe - though, as I said, loud. I'd try it again on a late afternoon, maybe. Our friends said its one of their favorite places to go - apparently not on a Saturday night.
Buck's does not disappoint. It's a lively neighborhood spot with delicious food and an unpretentious yet special atmosphere. We felt very well taken care of by everyone and everything we ordered was delicious.
Fried oyster appetizer is the bomb. Short ribs with mushroom polenta - so good! Only complaint is that it's so loud in the restaurant, it's very hard to hold a conversation.
Food is always delicious and service impeccable. Thank you Bucks!
I thought that the food was average, nothing special but it was tasty. It was nothing more than what I might prepare at home.
Service was A+.
I always love going to Buck's. My neighborhood top pick. Wonderful staff. Menu reliably tasty. Clams/oysters . Yum Yum.
My friends and I love Buck’s, so we go there for birthdays and such. We like the food— simple but savory— and the decor. On Wednesday night, we went to celebrate one friend’s bday and another’s completion of half her chemotherapy. I ordered an $85 bottle of wine. We were having a good time when, after 2 hours I guess, we were asked to move to another table b/c they wanted to seat another party there. I mean— they were nice and all, but I feel certain that had we been 3 white men in business suits rather than 3 little old ladies, one with a chemo hat on, they would have figured out a more gracious and hospitable way to solve their seating problem.
Great food, excellent service. Pump burgers and crispy fries. Outstanding onion rings
Disappointed. Food not up to past experience. But chocolate cake was delicious
Why did I not get points?
Server--Nordeen (?) was most helpful and solicitous without being intrusive. The food was delicious and beautifully prepared. A real gem.
Neighborhood gem. LOVE Buck's for everything from a romantic date night to a cozy girl's night with my tween. It's everything and always delicious. The halibut, burger and chicken are always wonderful and the wedge is to DIE for - that dressing! Service is cozy and impeccable - shout out to Cortney for being the best ever. Delicious and unexpected wines by the glass. Oh and that chocolate cake. LOVE.
Very thin cut small pork chop over cooked and dried out. They removed it from the bill and offered to replace with another item. Nice gesture but I frankly didn’t care to have to wait and watch my family members eat or feel guilty for eating without me. Bummer evening.
Always nice ambiance. Food and service above average. Prices moderate. Wine list adequate. Great dessert!
I had heard that this place was a local gem. I thought it was pretty good, but not stellar. My Martini was great! The Big Steak was pretty big! But it was a bit dry for my taste. It’s not that I didn’t like it. It’s more that I expected it to knock my socks off.
It took me a while to make it to Bucks and now it is my go to place for all occasions.
Tables for two so close hard to get in and out. having a private conversation virtually impossible.
Figure out a way to open the back door to the parking lot.
New Year’s Eve
Buck's Fishing and Camping is a cozy, inviting neighborhood restaurant where the food and drink are good and come at a reasonable price. It's the perfect place for families, including children, due to the casual and friendly atmosphere. A very enjoyable evening, indeed!
I can't say enough good things about Buck's. We went there as a party of 8 people, celebrating a graduation. Everything about the restaurant and the experience was perfect for us. The service was excellent -- friendly and responsive without being intrusive. Our server really went the extra mile to make sure our celebration evening went smoothly. As the organizer, I arrived early, and she worked with me to have a champagne toast and some appetizers ready and waiting when the rest of our party arrived.
The food itself was terrific. Everyone is our party was happy their meal. From the food, to the service, to the environment of the restaurant itself, we had a great experience. I would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for somewhere that is a bit upscale without being precious. A very nice and comfortable place. Thank you Buck's, for making our special evening perfect.
I was delighted that they had an iceberg lettuce wedge, though I really should have asked for more blue cheese. Fish and chips, the fish was a bit soggy and hard to eat with fork or fingers and it soaked the paper in the basket making it hard to scoop up some bites. Though when we arrived the restaurant was largely empty and they told the two of us we'd be sitting at the long table. We weren't having it (and the reservation should have stated options). After a bit of time we were eventually seated at proper two seater. It the end it was okay. I had always wondered about the restaurant though I can't say that there was anything about that would make me wish to return.
