It took 15 minutes before we were even offered a drinks order despite the restaurant not being that busy. We were urged to try the chicken and dumplings “special” (in fact it was on the regular menu) and two of us ordered it and found it hugely over salted, with dumplings like lead sinkers. Another had scallops which were also over salted. A disappointing experience.

I was pleasantly surprised by the service and food. We had the duck and the chicken. We preferred the chicken. I will certainly go back and take other friends. A great experience!

I had not been back for a few months. It was a treat to dine here again. Excellent ambiance, service and food - the fried oysters and the fish and chips continue to be outstanding.

My wife and I had not been to Buck's in more than 10 years, gravitating more toward downtown for dining. We are glad to see that it remains a DC classic and an enchanting place to share a meal. In addition to the campy decor, the food was great. Please don't change, and we'll plan to not wait another 10 year to return.

After each ordering Ceasar salads, we ordered the duck breast and pork chop dinners. Both were fabulous

We had a delightful meal at this charming restaurant. Service was friendly and attentive but not intrusive. The menu offered a nice range of options which made it hard to decide but our selections were delicious. My husband had a beautiful beet salad followed by a succulent pork chop accompanied with a mustardy winter coleslaw. I had a caesar salad that was so large I would probably share it next time...dressing was freshly made, which makes all the difference. I very much enjoyed medium rare duck breast which was smothered in mushrooms along with fingerling potatoes. We shared one of the best pieces of carrot cake I've ever had...my recommendation would be to get your own...you won't want to share! I think the thing that differentiates Buck's Fishing and Camping is the atmosphere...softly lit by candles and paper lanterns with interesting art on the deep red walls: cozy! A structure segments the room with pulled back curtains & topped by a canoe. You definitely feel like you could be in someone's very upscale boathouse in the Adirondacks or on the Great Lakes. Overall a lovely experience. We look forward to returning!

Such a wonderful spot. I think the my steak meal was steakhouse quality. I personally love the wine list. Simple, short, and, a great value.

Fabulous as always! The roasted squash with goat cheese starter was phenomenal, and the mushrooms that come with the duck were outrageously good. Wine, service, chocolate cake--it was all excellent. The place was bustling on a Friday night, but everyone around us seemed relaxed and happy.

This was a 50th birthday dinner for a friend. Four of us, all had drinks, all loved our food. One friend's Manhattan was too spicy initially but the bartender graciously replaced it with a winner. We had two "rounds" of deviled eggs, which happen to be a personal favorite. My quinoa pilaf was delicious -- perfect for a gluten free diet and actually filling, and the poached egg on top was a treat. Two had the duck and did not leave empty plates. The steak & fries was a hit but more food than my friend could finish. The room is nice and cozy but also loud, though we stayed late enough that we did enjoy some "low noise" time. I hadn't been there in a while but was reminded that it's a great option for a friends dinner as well as a special occasion such as this was.

Food is consistently good and creative. Locals rave about the steak and the pork chop, I've had both and can say that they taste great and are very filing. I recently had the duck with wild mushrooms and it was outstanding. Carafes of wine are available in addition to some wines by the glass, so if there are two of you it can be an affordable way to add wine to your meal without purchasing an entire bottle.

Buck's Fishing and Camping restaurant is a real change from tasting menus where you have no idea what you are reading let alone find anything to eat. On the menu, you will well-prepared dishes like a 1/2 roasted chicken, fish and chips, and even a vegan quinoa pilaf with butternut squash, broccoli, chard, green beans, and pickles dish.
Love the camping experience right down to the local produce, fish and meats. Either before or after your meal don't forget to stop by one of DC's favorite independent bookseller Politics and Prose.

The food was very good, service very attentive, but the noise level was so loud we had to shout to have a conversation and the waitress had to repeat herself several times inorder to hear what she was saying. You need to do something about the noise level.

There are many things I really like about Buck's and have been there about a dozen times. The food is good with seasonal options and adequate vegetarian and pescatarian choices, I like the look and feel of the restaurant, and there are not a lot of options in Chevy Chase DC so when dining with friends where that is the convenient spot, it seems the ultimate go-to choice. And half the time the staff is attentive and pleasant. But the other half of the time, it is pretty tough to get attention - waiting 15 minutes for a drink, for example. And they are almost always out of something - specials but also basics, like scotch. So I will return for all the reasons above, but the restaurant is at a tipping point in which a little more investment would make it really good, but a little less will detract from the current value of good food, in a physically pleasant atmosphere, in a location where it remains the best option.

Excellent meal. Good wine options. Attractive, informal atmosphere.
Fish and chips are terrific! Sweet potato fries wonderful. Delicious
starter was grilled carrots.
Only problem was with our waitress who took offense at something
one diner said about his cocktail.
Other than that, a great evening.

Gathered with an old friend for a birthday dinner celebration so we hoped to catch up and relax. Despite a low volume of diners due to early in the week dinner time, the attentive wait staff seemed to rush us. We made it clear, we'd like to take our time and catch up. Ultimately, the food was beautifully prepared, but entrees arrived while still enjoying the first course. They offered to hold it back in the kitchen--seemed a rookie error for a seasoned restaurant. However, we had a lovely experience and thoroughly enjoyed the ambience and tasty dishes. Gelatos were delicious, but a few more offerings for dessert would be nice. We both expressed wanting to return.

I ordered a salad for appetizer and then the steak-frites for main. The steak-frites came with a good size portion of the same salad. The server should have pointed this out and let me decide if I wanted to change the appetizer (which I would have done). Overall service was not good for a 6 pm reservation when the restaurant was not at all crowded.

Over the years Buck's has been like a good old friend; loyal and consistent. However, on this visit the food lacked any punch and seemed rather tired. A rather dour server delivered the fried green tomatoes that had no taste and the cornmeal breading would not stick to the tomatoes. Two of the four entrees arrived cold and had to be sent back. Really no excuse for that as they weren't busy at all. The hostess redeemed the restaurant's reputation by bringing us all an after dinner drink on the house.
