I hadn't been to the Buckhorn in a year and this busy Saturday night made me realize that it's not an environment I enjoy when it's in full swing. Even with a reservation, the wait was a half hour, and I'm not sure a reservation made any difference with the wait time. I understand when a restaurant is busy, they can't predict how quickly tables will vacate, so this was more along the lines of note to self, though I am doubtful of returning. The wait staff were positive, attentive and energetic. With meals comprising warm, crusty french bread, salad or soup, fries or potato, onion strings and beef cut of your choice, I rated the value very good, but it's not inexpensive. Unfortunately, the noise level was so crushing that I didn't enjoy the meal or trying to engage in conversation. It's difficult these days to find a restaurant that isn't noisy, but I'll be exploring other options for special occasions in the future.
This is the second time we have been there. This time we brought our neighbors and they really enjoyed it. Both times we had the tomahawk rib-eye and there was more than enough food. It is advertised for two but you could easily feed three on it. We brought the leftovers home and ate again the next day. The soup (cream of mushroom) was delicious. The dill salad dressing was delicious and their bread is to die for. We used to go to the House of Prime Rib is SF for special occasions but now we have a new favorite with no long drive, bridge toll or valet.
First you’re greeted by 3 15YO kids who tell you that after showing up on time for your reservation there will be a 15-30 minute wait. What is the point of making a reservation? My wife found us a table in the bar so we ate there but it’s noisy in the bar
We ordered appetizers and dinner. Dinners come with a salad. We got our appetizers but never got our salad instead we went directly to the main course which we accepted because it took so long to get
If you go here bring your patience. Understand in advance that the restaurant management doesn’t care about you. Your a piece of meat that you’ll only get served when they feel like it but you won’t get what you ordered you’ll get what they serve you. In the end you’ll pay a lot of money to get treated poorly. Beginning with the kids that great you at the front door and ending with the head scratching bill at the end
Chris Weber was our server and he was awesome. Totally accommodating, funny, great customer service. The food is just soooo good. I always get the Filet. It’s about as good as it gets.
I had made reservations about two weeks in advance and our table was ready when we got there. Service was outstanding. Food was outstanding too. My filet was so tender I could cut it with a fork! Great menu selection. Four of the people in our party had filet or prime rib with one person ordering the seafood pasta. You get a choice of soup or salad with your meal and I chose the cream of mushroom soup. It could have been a meal just by itself! I highly recommend the Buckhorn.
Excellent service. Waiters were friendly and attentive.
The Moscow Mules are excellent!
The food was great.
A bit noisy, but that means the restaurant is thriving, so that's OK.
I had the tri-tip special and I asked for medium rare. I know I should have asked for medium well the medium rare was raw in the middle and the overall slices were not even warm and the meat was tough. On top of that the meat tasted like the had used liquid smoke. And that I don’t like.
The Waiter Tony was wonderful.
The best rib eye and rack of lamb I have ever had anywhere. The service was excellent!
Even the grandkids feel special. Would recommend to my best friend.
This place was amazing, I highly recommend it! Great food, great service, overall great experience.
We eat there often, but this is the 3rd time we've made reservation, only to have to wait to get seated (one time we waited 45 minutes!) We wound-up finding seats at the bar lounge and decided to just have dinner there.
The meat dishes were delicious and cooked perfectly, as were the side vegetables. Don't expect your salad to be up to par with the rest of the meal. AND the Turkovich RED was perfect with our food.
Eat here every chance we get. Meals are always fantastic and their specials are always off the chart.
Always delicious food. Can’t go wrong no matter what is odered
Hosted friends from Southern California and found that the quality of the steak was not as good as we expected. Those who ordered chicken were perfectly content. It has been a while since we were last here, so it might have simply been an off night or - more likely- due to the cut of the meat we ordered. Still a bit disappointed. Service was amazing as always. We’ll certainly be back but will be hoping for a better experience.
Had a reservation for 8:15. Arrived at 8. Still was not seated at 8:45 so we ate in the bar.
The sour dough bread and salad was the best part of my meal. My steak was cooked properly by dry and flavorless.
Our waitress in the bar was good.
Would not go back or suggest this place to anyone
The Buckhorn never disappoints. Terrific steakhouse ambiance: historic hotel, big game heads mounted on the walls, large engaging bar area, booths(!) and tables. Wonderful grilled meats, with perfectly prepared sides (vegetables included) and soups. Homemade, piping hot, delicious bread! Prepare in advance by being hungry and wearing loose pants! Love it!
An unexpected gem - well worth the drive from Davis. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Spectacular steak (I had filet) and ribs. Really among the best I’ve ever had and I consider myself a steak snob. Can’t wait for an excuse to return.
We went to the Buckhorn since several visits to restaurants in Sac left us saying “we could have eaten at the Buckhorn”. Corner table was tight. Restaurant was very noisy. Impeccable service, a great Bombay Sapphire martini with 3 olives. Clams for appetizer were small but flavorful. Upgraded to the Caesar Salad which was delish. Had a 20oz chunk of prime rib with garlic mashed and asparagus. Good but not as good as the House of Prime Rib in SF. Nice desert of half chocolate cake and half cheesecake with very good coffee. Still my to go place for a special occasion when I don’t want to drive to HOPR.
This is my second time coming here and the second time I have had to wait 30 mins past the time of my reservation even after arriving 15 mins early. I was told they were running behind by 15 mins, and I accepted that because it was a busy weekend, but then we still weren’t seated for 30 mins, and only after complaining. The food was good, but frankly I’m still not sure it’s worth the outrageous cost for such a noisy environment. Both times I’ve come here it was for special occasions, but I don’t know if I’ll be doing it again. The food is probably the only thing I really liked about this place and I don’t feel that it makes up for the cost when the service and atmosphere are so lacking.
If you want the best meat in the Napa-Solano-Yolo area, then the Buckhorn is the place!
A 45 minute wait with a reservation prior. The steaks were tough. Not very impressed.
Dined in back room where it was very loud. It would have been better in the front of the restaurant
It has been years since we have been to the Buckhorn as we moved out to the North Coast. So it was a special treat tocreturn and find it as fun and wonderful as it ever was. Still crazy popular (glad we made our reservations)! Food was great, service fun and friendly. So glad we came. We'll be back again!!!!
Outstanding service, food, and experience from start to finish. We had a drink in bar area before dinner also which was excellent. Make a reservation otherwise there is a wait.
You can't get a better prime cut sirloin! Outstanding!
The food is fabulous. It is always delicious and cooked perfect. It all starts with the freshly baked sourdough bread, add sautéed mushrooms and any entree. We have eaten there since 1985 and it get Better and Better. My favorite is the sirloin steaks. Plus the Customer Service is outstanding.
We have eaten at Other steakhouses, with high profile names, and always leave thinking the Buckhorn in Winter’s, CA, is better.
It was a top notch night. Everything was served promptly and there was no issue with special reqests.
This was my first visit to Buckhorn Steakhouse. We had made reservations for 6:15 & arrived at 5:45; we didn't get seated at a table until 6:30 as the restaurant was super busy. Not sure what the point of making a reservation was for since people who just walked in to wait for a table waited about the same amount of time as us. Ambiance was nice but a little too loud for me. Bar area is nice but small so we waited for a table outside since it was crowded. The food was high quality & the service was great. It did take awhile to get our check & boxes for leftovers at the end & we were in a hurry. I would eat here again but only if i had more time & no plans after dining.
Excellent. Our favorite place to celebrate or WOW clients & guests
Food is consistently excellent! Try to get here at least every other month. Our waiters are always very accommodating and pleasant.
Great ambience and food! The portabella mushroom appetizer is amazing and I love meat!! The ribeye was fantastic too! Also loved the roasted red pepper bisque! Definitely a great place to enjoy with friends or significant other!
Troy is an off the hook waiter. Always request him. He goes out of his way to make your dining experience special!
Everything went great. It was Valentine’s Day they where super busy . The waitress was great and the food came out fast. Staff was very friendly even though they where super busy.
Once again The Buckhorn thumbs its nose at its loyal customers, overbooking on a holiday and leaving us standing for 45 minutes beyond our reservation time. When will I learn not to make plans there on occasions like Valentines Day? A friend who went there early in the evening said she had the same experience. This incredibly detracts from the dining experience, and the wait staff and likewise harried and unhappy. Boo on you!
Waited for over an hour after our reservation time. There were Numerous open tables. Food was ok, probably won't be back. I was disappointed
They were VERY accommodating with our reservation time, as we were running a bit behind schedule. The waiter was entertaining and suggestive to just the right point! We enjoyed the evening and the food was great! Thanks!
We have dined at the Buckhorn on numerous occasions during the past 30+ years. The Buckhorn has never disappointed us. The tritip is to die for.
Food was great and waiter was attentive and friendly. I took a star off on service because we, and others, had to wait 20 minutes past our reservation time to be seated.
Sunday night reservation for 7pm, had to wait about 15 minutes as they were running behind. Went to the bar and had a drink which helped pass the time. Rather than getting seated in the main dining room we got sat in the very last back corner of the banquet room. THe room is fine enough and the service was totally solid, but it made it less special for sure. A large group was seated in the middle of the room and they were having a grand old time which provided some background noise to the otherwise very quiet spot in the otherwise busy restaurant.
Food is always amazing and service is always great. You can't beat the authenticity of the food and flavors. Just ideally would rather sit in the main room unless I"m with a larger group.
Would have gotten another star however we had reservations for 6:45 were seated at 7:30
