Buckhorn Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
Our favorite for special occasions. Great for the GF set as well (other than missing the delicious hot soyrdough bread). I love to cook, and there are few restaurants that can outcook me. This is one. The best beef. We’ve been coming here for special occasions for many years.
The service was perfect, humor and very knowledgeable on the overall of the food operation. The meal was to dye for, steak was outstanding with all the sides as well. The only thing that might need a touch here and there is the mushrooms. Everyone does mushroom differently, to soft to hard or too soggy. Ours was to soggy with little to no taste.
The meal was outstanding, great effort on keeping the customer smiling.
This was our 20th Anniversary. We'll be back soon.

Not a first timer at BH but a first timer ordering the calamari and it was the best I have ever had. Period. Throw down the mic. Even better, the site baked bread was nice and doughy and it sucked up the rest of the calamari drizzle left at the bottom of the dish.
Steaks were great as usual, cooked to perfection; the squash had texture and crunch. Mashed potatoes put the dinner over the top of fullness so we had steak to come home with and with a little take home sourdough, made a great steak sandwich for lunch the next day.
Servers were great and friendly. Great experience once again, and will be back sooner this time.
I was very disappointed that making a reservation through Open Table I think meant to the Buckhorn that I might not show up. It was a cold night and our "reserved" table was next to the constantly opening door. Two couples seated after us that walked in with no reservations were seated in the back-quieter, warmer, cozier. My friend and I shared the tomahawk rib eye which I had always wanted to try here. Frankly, it was gristly and not worth the money. My husband's regular ribeye was much better. I had mashed potatoes which were very plain and unseasoned, crumbly and cold. The butternut squash vegetable was unevenly cut so some pieces were hard and other mushy. Our friends had never been and we always talked up what a treat the Buckhorn is. This night, a big disappointment. Server was nice and checked on us often. No, I did not send my meal back. By the time our food came it was very busy.
Our server was William. He was very polite and treated us like we were the most important people in the room...We were very pleased with our food and service...very busy but didn't feel rushed...Couldn't ask for a better dining experience...and the parade was a treat....Went to the Palms for the Antsy McClain show and enjoyed every minute of it...
Been here many times over the years and classic local spot in a great small town with several nice spots to eat. We were a party of four and three ordered the prime rib and I had the rack of lamb. We all ordered the loaded baked potato that came as one of the options with our meals. Vegetables were very good, my rack of lamp was excellent, but the loaded baked potatoes were simply covered with a crust of cheese and nothing else. Pretty disappointing. Two of the three who had the prime rib said was cooked correctly to order but the cut had excessive fat and was average at best. Service was excellent and the the local wine recommended by our waitress was very good and priced very reasonable for a restaurant.
We love the Buckhorn. However, on this night, we had a below average server (never came around to check anything) and one of the 4 meals ordered had a long hair on it. We couldn’t find anyone to tell at the beginning of our meal and our server never came by. Once he came by, we told him, he offered another food option which we declined because it was 15 minutes later. They did take the meal off the bill which was the right thing to do.
We will still visit the Buckhorn, but that meal was a 2-3 at best.
I've been here many times since moving to the region in 1992. It's usually pretty good. This time my charred sirloin was waaaaay overcooked - I'd ordered medium rare. Another in our party had steak cooked too rare, it was blue/bloody - she also ordered medium rare. The inconsistencies were notable.
Decided to eat here for Thanksgiving rather than cook for ourselves. We did not have the traditional turkey dinner. Instead we both had the prime rib and it was amazing. I chose the german potato soup instead of salad and it was also incredible. The restaurant has an inviting feel to it. You could dress up or go casual and still feel right at home. Our server was very nice and so was the bar staff. It is a little on the pricey side, but worth it, so I wouldn't be going here every weekend. Great for special occasions.
The food was outstanding, another great meal at the Buckhorn. The calamari and new england clams chowder were excellent. The steak was cooked to perfection with white and purple cauliflower. The drinks were always a generous pour and the Taylor Port was a great accompaniment to the lemon cake dessert.
This is a multigenerational appeal spot. Steeped in history, prepare for the plethora of terrific taxidermy on the walls. Meals are meat focused but lots of very well executed vegetable sides. A vegetarian could dine well here, too. Meats here are superb. It is the real deal, from historical location to authentic decor. We come for the food! My Celiac husband is happy here, too. Love the service. A balanced approach, always worth the drive from Sacramento.
The Buckhorn was great a little noisier then I like. Food was great the service was good. the hostesses seem a little snobby. I enjoyed the heaters outside while waiting and the music. Very nice that someone was there to serve us drinks. All in All it was a pleasant evening.
We went to Buckhorn for my husband's birthday. While it has been a long while since the last time we were there, we had a wonderful evening. Our server, Jennifer, was outstanding! She went along with our joking around, but was very professional, knew her menu, specials, and always had a warm smile and cheerful attitude, just a very nice young lady. The food was great, my husband and son had the German Potato Soup, and it smelled fabulous and both said it was very good. We had the Tri-tip special, and it was prepared perfectly to how we wanted, cut table side, and the loaded mashed potatoes were scrumptious! We really enjoyed the evening, the meal, and will be back. Great job Buckhorn!
We were excited to try this place for the first time. We had a 6:30 reservation and checked in with a few minutes to spare. We were told they were running a little behind and we would be seated shortly. Well, after a half hour of waiting outside when it was cold out we finally went into the doorway where there was a heater and I went to check on what the hold up was. They told me they were setting a table finally. They seated us at a table right in front which was fine but the people traffic coming in and out was making it very cold. Air was coming in every time the door was held open. Service from our waitress was excellent. Our appetizers came very fast and drinks were kept up. Dinner was ok. Not worth the price to me. My wife’s steak was cold to the touch when it was brought out. Mine was hot and tasted good. It was very noisy and I’m thinking it would have been better to come on a weekday evening. We both agreed that we didn’t need to come back and try again.
