Buckhorn Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
The food was outstanding, another great meal at the Buckhorn. The calamari and new england clams chowder were excellent. The steak was cooked to perfection with white and purple cauliflower. The drinks were always a generous pour and the Taylor Port was a great accompaniment to the lemon cake dessert.
This is a multigenerational appeal spot. Steeped in history, prepare for the plethora of terrific taxidermy on the walls. Meals are meat focused but lots of very well executed vegetable sides. A vegetarian could dine well here, too. Meats here are superb. It is the real deal, from historical location to authentic decor. We come for the food! My Celiac husband is happy here, too. Love the service. A balanced approach, always worth the drive from Sacramento.
The Buckhorn was great a little noisier then I like. Food was great the service was good. the hostesses seem a little snobby. I enjoyed the heaters outside while waiting and the music. Very nice that someone was there to serve us drinks. All in All it was a pleasant evening.
We went to Buckhorn for my husband's birthday. While it has been a long while since the last time we were there, we had a wonderful evening. Our server, Jennifer, was outstanding! She went along with our joking around, but was very professional, knew her menu, specials, and always had a warm smile and cheerful attitude, just a very nice young lady. The food was great, my husband and son had the German Potato Soup, and it smelled fabulous and both said it was very good. We had the Tri-tip special, and it was prepared perfectly to how we wanted, cut table side, and the loaded mashed potatoes were scrumptious! We really enjoyed the evening, the meal, and will be back. Great job Buckhorn!
We were excited to try this place for the first time. We had a 6:30 reservation and checked in with a few minutes to spare. We were told they were running a little behind and we would be seated shortly. Well, after a half hour of waiting outside when it was cold out we finally went into the doorway where there was a heater and I went to check on what the hold up was. They told me they were setting a table finally. They seated us at a table right in front which was fine but the people traffic coming in and out was making it very cold. Air was coming in every time the door was held open. Service from our waitress was excellent. Our appetizers came very fast and drinks were kept up. Dinner was ok. Not worth the price to me. My wife’s steak was cold to the touch when it was brought out. Mine was hot and tasted good. It was very noisy and I’m thinking it would have been better to come on a weekday evening. We both agreed that we didn’t need to come back and try again.
Our reservation was for 7:15PM, but we had to wait until 7:50PM to be seated. This is unacceptable and ultimately unfair to the server, because our displeasure was reflected in the tip (11% rather than our usual 20%). The table service was very good and the food was tasty, although pricey. It seems that the primary failure is with the hostess staff - obviously inefficient. We live in Winters, and have eaten at the Buckhorn occasionally over the years. After this experience, however, we will continue to do our finer dining in Davis or Sacramento.
This restaurant has a cozy, friendly vibe even though its space is sizable. Had a drink in the bar before dinner -- nice though limited selection of wines and beers. Staff were very friendly, attentive and helpful. Food was good but not over the top. Meats were good, cooked perfectly. We would definitely come here again and bring friends.
The night was good as usual. I’ve graded the service down. It was not because of the server we had as he was outstanding. It was because of the Buckhorn’s continued inability to handle reservations. Every single time I’ve been there the last few years, and that probably totals maybe six times, we have never been seated close to when our reservation time was. And each time we showed up at least 10 minutes early. This most recent dining experience the other day, was not super terrible in terms of when we got seated compared to some times in the past. Probably 10-15 minutes late. But it was a midweek day and the restaurant wasn’t overly busy like you see on the weekends. What was most amazing was sitting at the bar waiting and the people next to us got called after our reservation time. The amazing thing was they had no reservation. Recognize there may be stuff I don’t understand, but on the surface that doesn’t seem reasonable. By far, this restaurant handles reservations the most poorly use of any I frequent. Her
I love the buckhorn. Food is always good. Ambiance is nice. I would have clicked romantic, but the noise level is a little too loud to hear your date unless you are sitting right next to them. The booths are cozy but the seated tables are right on top of each other. To have a personal meaningful conversation is extremely difficult without others hearing what you are saying.
But the food and service is amazing.
