Denver’s original steakhouse, The Buckhorn Exchange is located in the city’s oldest neighborhood, just 5-minutes from downtown Denver -- with a light-rail stop right across the street. This National Historic Landmark and Western Museum has been serving the finest in Old West fare since 1893.
Prime grade beef steaks, buffalo prime rib, elk, salmon, quail, game hen, and succulent baby-back pork ribs are just some of the marvelous offerings on the Buckhorn menu. Exotic appetizers such as alligator tail and buffalo sausage are available, and no dinner is complete without the house specialty, Rocky Mountain Oysters.
For lunch we serve up a lighter fare including our renowned Grandma Fanny’s pot roast sandwich, enormous beef and buffalo burgers and more!
Prepared from the buckhorn's famous old west recipe
Fresh salmon served with wild rice and side of red chile hollandaise
Dinner was amazing. We had the steak for two and I highly recommend it.
It was everything we expected it to be. Great service and great environment. Gio the waiter provided great recommendations and we tried almost everything on the menu! Definitely a must eat spot in Denver.
I would rate an overall 5, but I felt for the price the food was ordinary. Possibly because if Covid the menu was not the normal full menu. I would not come back unless a visitor to Colorado requested it. Overall it was a pleasant experience .
Great service but all of our meals were cold.. it was just two couples so i would think that isnt too complicated. Have had great food in the past, but this was not very good.
The food was just ok. I had the Elk and Quail. The accompanying sauces were not good at all. I wish I had gotten the buffalo rib eye that the people next to us had. It looked amazing coming out on a sizzling hot plate. My son and his fiance kept talking about how uncomfortable it was without music. We loved the decor though! We had late reservations and the wait staff let us explore upstairs as well. We also had the mountain oysters and rattlesnake queso! Our server was great and even gave me a Buffalo Bill cocktail on the her. I would go back but would not order the Elk or Quail. It was a bit pricey but, overall we made great memories in a cool old bar.
This is the second time that I have eaten there. I would eat there more often if I did not live so far away. The ambience and food are incredible.
Several of us noticed that our waiter seemed rather brash. The man who cleared the table and refilled water was much better. Meals were so-so, save for the Elk that my son liked. It had been some time that we ate here, tried it again, no need to return.
Everything was great thank you!! Will definitely be coming back
This was my first time here and totally worth it. Since we were visiting from NC, I wanted to try meats that we cannot get served to us, I had rattlesnake queso that was pretty good. I also had the special which was Buffalo and Elk, really good. Not gamey at all. Totally glad that we dined her. Our service was pretty amazing too, great suggestion of wine which was Bikers Girl I believe. Thanks
Decent quality food, great service, but very very expensive for the mediocre quality
Relatives visiting from California loved it!!! They never saw anything like this restaurant.
Excellent food and service in a historic building!!
Overly expensive food for not that great of flavors. Expected so much more from the buffalo prime rib. Great to say we tried it, won't be back.
A must do in Denver. Great time with such a history.
The atmosphere was pleasant and the host stated we could walk around to grasp in all the memories on the wall that made up the Buckhorn Exchange! Drinks were good and the meat was the most tender meat ever had. Totally recommend to all to go and enjoy!
Come here for wild game and the ambiance. A classic western steakhouse
I took my husband here for his birthday. The service was attentive and friendly. The server was knowledgeable and made suggestions based on the likes and dislikes we shared with her. The food was flavorful and well presented. The buffalo barley soup, Rocky Mountain Oysters and elk steak were delicious. My husband was given a choice of desserts for his birthday which was a very nice bonus! He had toffee cheese cake and it was fantastic!!
It was a great place to try some different foods. If you've never tried rattlesnake, elk, quail, and the infamous "rocky mountain oysters", then you can get them all at once. The food isn't cheap, though, but it is worth the price of admission.
I also liked the decor; there were plenty of stuffed animals of all types there, even the elusive Jackelope. Who says they aren't real?
Amazing old restaurant serving exotic meat dishes. Had the Buffalo Prime rib so good and the staff were so friendly.
Try it you will not be sorry...
Excellent steaks and sausage. Nice wine. The rest, well don’t go for that.
Great atmosphere with delightful food! Staff was very helpful in guidance for a first time patron
Wonderful experience all around. Good food, fair prices at the bar and a lovely evening all around. (4th visit was as good as my first.)
This is what a steakhouse should be. The dining room felt like being at your grandparents living room. Awesome place. Just go.
If you are in Denver, the Buckhorn Exchange is must!!!
Excellent selection of meals that are cooked perfectly.
Mostly great food, prices were a little more than average but the ambiance made up for it.
Food was great. Buffalo prim rib was superb.
awesome, would definitely go back any time in Denver
This place is an institution. The food is incredible. Staff is amazing. The ambiance is exactly what you'd expect coupled with this menu. Try it all, you will NOT be disappointed!
Best restaurant in town! Will come back when we are in Denver again! Would recommend! Service was great and the food was amazing!!
It is a tourist destination. All the food was over cooked
We ate here on a recent trip to Denver and would highly recommend! The ambiance, service and most important the food was superb! I had the lamb chops and they were fantastic. My husband had the porterhouse and it was cooked to perfection just like the lamb chops.
Food was excellent, all staff members were exceptionally friendly, tables were well spaced, and the over-all atmospher was very relaxed. Great place for a date!
Very good food & service. Great atmosphere.Enjoyable time.
The waiter was attentive, but would not look us in the eye.
Food was very good and the whole character and ambiance of the place made it a place to try at least once. I had a good time.
We took our friends from out of town here and couldn’t be more happy with the experience. Unique, historical, and delicious!
The food was horrible. The iconic big steak had no flavor and was tough. For $150 I would expect more. You are paying too eat at a historical establishment and they are cashing in on that.
The food was good, especially the duck breast appetizer. But, it was not great. The elk and bison seemed a bit overcooked. Service was outstanding. Location is great since it is at a train stop. We will definitely go back.
